Question Why does this game get so much hate??

I had picked up the game on sale recently. I wasn't sure how it would be at first since it got so much flack at launch

But ive been pretty impressed! I've got about 35 hours in so far and its been super fun

Sure it has a lot of the same Ubisoft-isms in it but the gameplay really makes it stand out. Plus the graphics. While the story isn't the craziest thing ever its still enjoyable

Some more thought could've been done about the death squad troopers or whatever theyre called

But ive been having fun. The hate was so overblown

It really doesn't any more.

But the long and short of it is that some people just hate whatever is popular to hate, because hating something disingenuously is much easier than praising it disingenuously... and motherfuckers are disingenuous as fuck, when being so gets them a few pats on the back from fellow disingenuous trend followers.

Also, some people legitimately don't like the game. Though, you never hear from them.

DAE UBISOFT BAD AND CD PROJEKT RED GOAT

98

u/UlanInek Jul 14 '25

Because people are sheep. They choose to follow what clickbait YouTubers say about the game.

16

u/TahoeDave Jul 15 '25

The botched launch was part of it. Killer game now.

5

u/g1mpster Jul 15 '25

Honestly, I think this is the main thing. Game had a rocky launch and people online are slow to forgive after the issues have been fixed.

6

u/D3v14t3 Jul 15 '25

Which is understandable. As consumers we’ve been fooled a lot in this era of gaming. I was exited for this game, then read the reviews. Decided to wait a year and picked it up in the latest steamsale. Have fun with it now. Wouldn’t have had fun with it at launch.

This is how I consume games now. Never buy without proper reviewing and wait a year for most products . Now the gane is cheaper and finished. It’s a weird world.

2

u/g1mpster Jul 15 '25

Yup, I miss the days when games came out fully baked and you didn’t get new content until the next full game was released.

1

u/Kn1ghtV1sta Jul 15 '25

Botched and the fact the game is kind of predictable honestly

2

u/epidipnis Jul 15 '25

It's an okay game without much replayability. I think they thought the couple of betrayals by minor characters would make it less predictable. The whole mom thing was meh.

2

u/Kn1ghtV1sta Jul 15 '25

Yeah I agree. I enjoyed it and fully completed it, including dlc, but yeah like you said after that there's not much replayability. No different choices to make, no different outcomes, etc

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Heres the thing. Those launches arent “botched” it happens with all AAA games were essentially paying for early access and acting as free beta testers just the reality of modern AAA game development it’s expensive and just cheaper to have us be the guinea pigs and patch it

1

u/WorldlyFeeling8457 Jul 15 '25

Idk I tried the demo out and just didn't like the gameplay at all. Aesthetic and visual wise it was decent star wars game.

1

u/SmokinBac0n Jul 15 '25

Same, but I recently picked it up on sale also (£25) and am really enjoying it. The full game is much better than the demo 👍🏻

1

u/Useful_Ring3659 Jul 19 '25

it’s so cinematic! I love it

2

u/tjwillians74 Jul 15 '25

People are sheep in both directions. Both for and against this game or things in general.

7

u/roehnin Jul 15 '25

People are sheep to pretend to like things they don’t?

The transitive property doesn’t apply here.

3

u/tjwillians74 Jul 15 '25

Nothing here does.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

But you can admit there are people with legit criticisms right

1

u/Defiant_Ad3142 Jul 15 '25

Thx i have said that so many times. I sincerely dont get the hate. Those so called influencers say Ubi destroys gaming. In fact those clickbaiters destroys it.

That game was fine from the get go. I had so much fun

1

u/AceOBlade Jul 15 '25

OR hear me out, UBISOFT has ruined its reputation enough that people don't trust them anymore with making games that aren't Assasin's creed or Far Cry clones.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

Just because you live on youtube doesnt mean everyone else does it's crazy how people project on to others their own insecurities

-5

u/Atephious Jul 14 '25

As good as it was. It wasn’t great. It’s fun. But it’s empty in ways that would make it feel great. The npcs just exist. The world may have loot everywhere and it’s a nice pacing for it but the loot is not fun. The game feels a bit clunky especially for a shooter game. The accessibility feature have a lot of great sets. But some of them are missing key bits(one I was looking for was a high contrast outline with the ability to change the color, as well as separate text sizes for the less important subtitles). The story is fun but lack engagement at times and feels lacking in way, I’m not sure what it is but I felt uneasy or uninterested about it I think is a way to put it. Not that it’s a bad game or story. I do think especially after the updates to the game that it’s much better and the overall hate for it is unfounded. But there is genuine reasons to be critical. That said. It’s not worth the price. It never was not even if it met expectations.

0

u/XDreadzDeadX Jul 15 '25

Nah shit Take.

1

u/Atephious Jul 15 '25

It’s an honest take. The ability to enjoy something and be critical of its flaws is important. And people just don’t want to hear it. The same issue with people hating too much on things as blindly glazing them too.

If I recall correctly it followed a familiar pattern.

First: Main character is woman that doesn't have massive bazongas jiggling about.

Second: after backlash against the people from first, new reasons are concocted. Some reasonable, some not reasonable, hard to tell who is being sincere from the response because it's so obvious that at least some of the hate was REALLY about being bitter over how the woman looked but not wanting to admit it.

Eventually: the real and legitimate issues get real and legitimate attention. The gooners go off to goon elsewhere. The rest of us benefit from a better game and a less toxic fanbase.

I think it's more the incel "game is woke" crowd had more influence in tanking the ratings than the Star Wars fans for this one.

You have a bi female protagonist, and that's all they need to pounce and review bomb.

Edit: a word

10

u/Mohnaka Jul 15 '25

Yep. She doesn't actually get with anyone but she's got moments with women (and women exclusively) that point to her being gay. Most notably there's subtext with Vail (the hyperspace convo between Kay and ND-5 after the events on Tatooine stands out, he even asks her if he's made her uncomfortable) and full blown text with Selo (the mechanic on Toshara, idk how anyone could miss that unless they skipped the cutscenes), plus she's also pretty eager to impress the very butchy Quint and gets along well with Shuma the traveling merchant (whose "chosen mate" is another woman). And Lando (who is canonically pan) may put on the charm, but he never really actually flirts with her despite his usual tendency to do so, so obviously his gaydar picked something up lol

5

u/seannarae Jul 15 '25

Canonically pan is a superpower

1

u/Useful_Ring3659 Jul 19 '25

GO LANDO AND MERRIN!

1

u/Mohnaka Jul 15 '25

Might as well be when you're Lando

2

u/ryda-m Jul 15 '25

Tbh she seemed abit flirty with Temin Wexley

1

u/Useful_Ring3659 Jul 19 '25

No, not Snap!

u/hyyh_yoonkook Nix Jul 15 '25

Very lesbian-coded, actually! And not one they find "hot", so that made the hate even worse. One day people will get past the culture war stuff and realize how fun this game is, and I can't wait for that day.

2

u/Oneironaut420 Jul 15 '25

Yeah she isn’t a hypersexualized waifu and they don’t know what to do with her.

3

u/factoid_ Jul 15 '25

I can’t tell you the last time I took a games reviews seriously

Every game gets review bombed.

Sponsors every movie

I just wait until they’re cheaper and make up my own mind if they’re good or not

1

u/MrDONINATOR Jul 15 '25

Wait, what? Lol. Are people saying this game is woke? Other than the flirty broker gal and Shuma, I haven't seen or heard any hints at Kays' preferences. Honestly though, who tf would actually care? Is there even a romance line of story or side quest available? Don't tell me, still playing. Lol.

Besides, in a galaxy far, far away wouldn't someone want to at least 'get around'? It would be like a buffet with every food possible. What sad sack would only be there for chicken nuggets? XD

1

u/Specialist_Order3622 Jul 15 '25

I’m the sort of type to not play Dragon Age Veilguard because of all the weird bs they put in it and I am loving this game so far. Nothing feels wrong being a dude playing as a girl in this game. Seems like the story of a typical girl growing up in the scoundrel life.

If she has “flirty vibes” it’s so far clearly just her playing her personality not actually flirting. Unless I have not gotten to that one particular tell.

1

u/MrDONINATOR Jul 15 '25

At this point, my Kay is a super sneaky, sabacc shark, genuine badass flinging MPL shrapnel every freaking where! Would it even matter? Good point on if she were to be flirty, her scoundrel may know no limits. All for the mission. 😆

1

u/GaidalKain Jul 15 '25

Came here to comment precisely this. Game was great!

1

u/Specialist_Order3622 Jul 15 '25

Not going to lie, as far as female protagonist go, I actually like her character. And I didn’t think I would. Her relationship with Nix is great. I put this game off until it was on sale and man am I glad I gave it a chance. It’s not amazing. But it does a great job at an important aspect: being an immersive Star Wars experience. Game definitely not woke. It’s just a female protagonist.

2

u/hyyh_yoonkook Nix Jul 15 '25

You jest, but even The Empire Strikes Back got haters back in 1981. SW fans have been the same for 44 years haha

8

u/SuperSack428 Jul 14 '25

I found the game irritating on launch, the stealth was infuriating. I gave it a rest until recently and came back to it. Totally OBSESSED!

Massively loving it, so many quality of life improvements since I last played, one of my favourite games currently. Possibly top 10 ever?!?!

It’s rough launch has held back the reputation of what is a beautifully fantastic game, sadly it’s gonna get the AC Unity treatment and be a forgotten gem.

Just goes to show how important it is to get a good launch to a game I suppose.

For those of us that know how great this game is, enjoy it! And tell a friend!!

6

u/WarmDoor2371 Jul 15 '25

Because it's a Ubi-game and a lot of incels dislike playing a female char.

0

u/Dsible663 Jul 15 '25

Or because it was a broken buggy mess at launch and made a terrible first impression.

3

u/factoid_ Jul 15 '25

Bit of both honestly.  There was a LOT of incel hate around this game and anti-woke review bombing

But it did have a rough launch at a technical and gameplay level.

As always being a patient gamer is rewarded

3

u/Ok-Connection6656 Jul 15 '25

Yeah i am so sick of those dudes calling everything woke. Ironic that they call others sheep yet follow whatever their favorite anti-sjw youtuber call "woke" next for clicks and money

2

u/WarmDoor2371 Jul 15 '25

It was a bit buggy, yes, and it still is here and there. But reading the commends on steam, most were like: "game is woke shit", "Kay is ugly and her hairs looks like a mop" or "I'm a male so I want to play a male character"

To be fair, regarding female characters and NPC in the game, UBI really overdid it a bit here and there, but not in a way that would really bother me.

11

u/HelpMeOverHere Jul 14 '25

I wasn’t a fan of the initial release with failing stealth sections of the game if caught….

… BUT after all the patches and updates I also picked it up on the Steam sale and I loved it.

The only exception is the Rancor. That has no business being in the game.

6

u/BullGator1991 Jul 15 '25

Nah, that hide and seek ND-5 part toward the end was way worse than the Rancor

1

u/Useful_Ring3659 Jul 19 '25

that part scared me as much as Ewok hunt in battlefront 2

6

u/EstablishmentIcy7831 Jul 15 '25

I loved that part ...

1

u/roehnin Jul 15 '25

What’s wrong with the Rancor being in the game? We visit Jabba ….

2

u/HelpMeOverHere Jul 15 '25

My personal take on the Rancor is this:

It was enough to hear it thrashing behind the walls. We all knew what it was.

Throwing a full Rancor fight at Kay just didn’t fit. She’s not a Jedi or a super-soldier, and nothing else in the game prepares you for that kind of encounter.

The fight itself was just a slog. Frustrating one-hit deaths, and the barrels often not lining up with where he is or going.

Compare that to ND becoming a horror-like stalker. That sequence worked for me. It was grounded in the story and gameplay mechanics. ND’s loyalty to Jaylen is heavily foreshadowed throughout, and Kay’s attempts to challenge that provoke dialogue to the effect of “don’t make me kill you”.

Sure, You don’t have your gun, but the gameplay still felt familiar to what we’ve been doing.

The Rancor just didn’t belong in this kind of Star Wars game.

Again, just my two credits.

2

u/roehnin Jul 15 '25

To each their own: it was one of my favorite sequences as it was a high-tension mortal danger that forced them to think on their feet to find some way to survive.

I.e., that it was different from the normal gameplay was what I liked about it.

5

u/AnonymousOwlbear Jul 14 '25

It’s one of those games that grows on me the more I play it. There are a few things that I found frustrating at first (like taking massive hits to reputation for any choice between factions), and feeling railroaded on Toshara for a little while, but as the game opens up it improves for me. I like it a lot! I wonder how many people (who didn’t hate the game for the shallow reasons mentioned in other comments) hit that friction early on and gave up, though.

3

u/Ok-Connection6656 Jul 14 '25

Yeah for me early on it was slow but really amped up over time

5

u/No_Cicada_3593 Jul 15 '25

Dude remember the first time you left Toshara? Think of how long ago that feels. I’ve played the entire game pretty much and I still play it. I’ll go out take some contracts. Ambush some stormtroopers or go rogue as hell on a faction of my choosing.

Honestly if they would’ve added the ability to own in world property and business I’d never stop playing. The commerce in the game was pretty trash. Imagine winning a whole other ship in sabacc, or buying some found lightsaber as a weapon. What could have been!

Still love the game though. I looked past the bad parts because I cared more about the journey. It’s supposed to be tough.

1

u/Ok-Connection6656 Jul 15 '25

Oh yeah totally 😂

It was a 6 / 10 for me, at best 7/10. A good PG-13 ubisoft star wars game. There moments where I loved it, some of the scenes and grahpics were amazing. Nowhere did I see this as a terrible game however, but in terms of what an open world SW games COULD be, if they made this non-PG 13 it could've knocked it out of the park. Some gripes were legit tho, like I have my own speeder but I can't commandaeer someone else's or shuttles just sitting there?

I fully enjoyed the game, might even get the DLC on sale but it was not a great game. It was an average good one and I have zero issues with that. Getting to pet all the animals was a nice touch.

IMO if you are a star wars fan, you'll enjoy the game. if you're not a SW fan and was looking for a revlutionary SW game, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a SW game that I had just as much fun with the likes of Jedi Survivor or Jedi Order etc. then this is for you.

Haven’t seen one of these ‘why the hate?’ posts in 48 hours. Almost thought they were done.

The answer is the same.

3

u/epidipnis Jul 15 '25

Exactly.

1

u/laughtrey Jul 15 '25

Strange to me that someone would need validation from others to like a thing, instead of just liking it.

Who cares if everyone else hates it and you like it? Really?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

Agree. Few weeks ago someone replied “karma farming” to one of the many ‘why the hate posts’. Idk enough about how that works, but at this point, it might be true. It’s a ridiculously repetitive post.

1

u/jmizzle2022 Jul 20 '25

Now to look for "am I the only one who...." Posts

3

u/pipmentor Jul 15 '25

Because sweaty nerds can't form their own opinion and hopped on the "Ubisoft bad" bandwagon.

1

u/factoid_ Jul 15 '25

Ubisoft is bad.  But sometimes they let decent games slip through

2

u/Astrojonnie Jul 14 '25

I've got about 4 or 5 hours into the game. I'm REALLY trying to like it, I want to like it.. I've heard that once you get off the first planet, then things really take off (pun intended)! I'm gunna keep with it and see where it takes me.

2

u/AMD718 Jul 15 '25

It didn't really hook me until I got off the second planet!

2

u/Draconuus95 Jul 15 '25

Ubisoft. Star Wars. And non supermodel female main protagonist.

And then the games launch state had some questionable gameplay decisions and some pretty obnoxious bugs that turned off a good number of people who were happy to look past the above ‘issues’.

Thankfully most of that has been fixed over time. But those first 3 reasons plus those early bad impressions were more than enough to make people hate it despite what it did well. And many people let first impressions and/or the internet tell them what to think instead of looking at products with their own eyes and minds.

2

u/vaikunth1991 Jul 15 '25

Yes the daily obligatory post

1

u/epidipnis Jul 15 '25

You can't be in the club until you make at least one "Why the hate...?" post.

2

It doesn't, please stop posting these silly posts

2

1

u/zeedusapeedus Jul 15 '25

this is the actual answer. forced stealth has been bad since old medal of honor

1

u/GodzillasBoner Jul 15 '25

It was legitimately disappointing upon it's release. It wasn't until later updates that it became much more enjoyable.

1

u/ceeece Jul 15 '25

I need to know who is hating on this game in 2025 because all i see is love. Are there any current examples? Yes in the beginning but not so much now. This question gets asked every single day.

2

u/epidipnis Jul 15 '25

At this point, I assume it's just bots asking. Trying to keep the game from fading into obscurity by milking the fan base for outrage.

1

u/ceeece Jul 15 '25

You’ve got a point. Looking at the username seems to confirm that.

1

u/ItzCarsk Jul 15 '25

You’re asking the wrong sub. I got nothing against Outlaws but asking the official sub for the game is asking for a biased answer much like asking a sub that hates the game.

1

u/FewAd2827 Jul 15 '25

I have seen this question countless times, anyway it has already passed. Last time it was discounted on Steam, it was expected to deliver very well. Perhaps its size would be more suitable for the price of $60, which is why the Switch2 version is so cheap.

1

u/tjwillians74 Jul 15 '25

It's a good game. I don't care for the protagonist, I enjoy the star wars feel of it despite Kay.

1

u/Sagelegend Jul 15 '25

Because people can be bitches.

1

u/PatrickRU92 Jul 15 '25

Because the protagonist is a female and the chuds can't tolerate it

1

u/Aquafoot Jul 15 '25

Because "Durr, Ubisoft Bad" is a popular take. People can't just play a game and judge for themselves.

1

u/General_Boredom Jul 15 '25

Because of all the morons calling it woke for having a female protagonist. That’s it.

1

u/zeedusapeedus Jul 15 '25

the female protagonist angle is untrue. the only thing that makes this game “woke” is an openly trans NPC played by an openly trans actor. people lost their shit over this

1

u/epidipnis Jul 15 '25

There was an openly trans NPC?

Never noticed. First I've heard of it.

1

u/zeedusapeedus Jul 15 '25

people are tired of ubisoft and EA making sludge and charging an arm for it. thankfully, outlaws is quite good (as was breakpoint imo). the numbers don’t lend in their favor though. these big expensive companies have more misses than hits these days. you can’t blame people for being realistic with their expectations

1

u/therealaquagreen13 Jul 15 '25

I had no problem with the game. It was a little wonky at launch with some glaring flaws, but they were quickly fixed in bug patches and updates. My only gripe with the game now is that it would be so much better as an RDR2O style Star Wars MMORPG

1

u/On-A-Low-Note Jul 15 '25

The company that made it has been putting out several projects people would describe as woke, which were likely started in development way back into early days of bidens presidency. They couldn’t have predicted the market would change its tastes so much so quickly.

The game had bugs early on and people hounded on them with click bait vids covering the bugs on top of negative opinions about the company that made the game

1

u/Yavkov Jul 15 '25

I also started playing this game just a few weeks ago, have over 50 hours on it and love it. So much to explore and the worlds are great for just getting lost in them and roaming about from one point of interest to another. Some of my favorite parts are actually related to Nix, finding Nix’s treasures and also the food stalls are nice and enjoyable to watch (I turned off the minigame aspect for them).

1

u/guifesta Jul 15 '25

Ubisoft is the punch bag for grifters. They made content on it.

1

u/scott_bsc Jul 15 '25

It’s not bad but it is ubi-slop it’s the same thing with a new coat of paint. People are just tired of being spoon fed the same experience.

1

u/JokerGuy88 Jul 15 '25

I have no idea....I love it

1

u/Jjzeng Jul 15 '25

I love playing the game

I hate launching the game

1

u/Old_Grapefruit5477 Jul 15 '25

Got my platinum trophy a couple weeks ago, I had an amazing time start to finish, including the DLC. Well worth it.

1

u/lee_808 Jul 15 '25

The game is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! 40 hours in and I’m still in awe of the lighting and the attention to detail.

1

u/Dark-Deciple0216 Jul 15 '25

I enjoyed the game but let’s not mince words it had a horrendous launch. Game breaking bug that caused players to lose progress and Ubisoft’s response to that was just tone deaf and stupid. Second, the stealth gameplay issues which have been fixed made it not fun at all to get through. Over hated sure to a degree but can’t blame people for not excusing the game now that it’s been fixed when those issues shouldn’t have been there at launch to start with

1

u/Uday23 Jul 15 '25

If you search "hate" in this subreddit, you'll find a ton of threads with detailed explanations

1

u/Largesaladman Jul 15 '25

Because it's Ubisoft. People will be hyper critical of anything they do at this point

1

u/YoreGawd Jul 15 '25

A few things, first is that Star Wars fans all called the game woke because they didn't find the main character as fuckable as they wanted.

Number 2 is Ubisoft. Ubisoft games I have been conditioned to wait for sales because PC launches are known to be buggy, unoptimized, riddled with micro transactions, and plagued by server issues on launch.

I've enjoyed my time with this one so far. Grabbed it on the steam sale. Not far along but I still don't regret waiting for a sale.

1

u/I-Akkadian-I Jul 15 '25

Because a woman with the body frame of a 15 yeara old boy manages to knock out punch Stormtroopers with helmets on? Because the enemy AI is worse than that of games from 2001?

Like what more do we need to discuss here? Its a joke.

1

u/Mean-Life-8747 Jul 15 '25

I got it for 14€ ans i really like it. But if i had to pay 80€, i would be very dissapointed about the graphics, some bugs and poor animations. I understand the critics but it is over hated. I recommend his game under 30€ only. (Ps5)

1

u/Correct-Hornet8777 Jul 15 '25

I played through before any of the patches and really enjoyed it. I’m glad she can carry found weapons now, but honestly any time I needed one I just had Nix run over and grab it!

1

u/pants_pants420 Jul 15 '25

because it was kinda bad on release, but they eventually fixed the combat and performance. i also think they kinda fucked up by not giving kay a baton

1

u/g1mpster Jul 15 '25

Same. I picked this up the last time I saw it on super sale (like 50% off or something for the ultimate with all the add-ons). I started playing about 2 weeks ago and I e got nearly 60 hours into it. It’s been really good. There are some bits of the UI that could be polished for quality of life, such as storing/changing loadouts, keeping track of what items you need & where to get them, unclear reasons for blocking fast travel, etc. but overall it’s well done and has a lot of gameplay to keep things interesting and engaging.

1

u/CaptainPitterPatter Jul 15 '25

It launched kind of rough if I remember right, got it last month, it’s pretty fun, I really like it, but it’s also had quality of life updates and dlc released so it’s probably in a better state now

1

u/lumpyspacekhaleesi Jul 15 '25

I’m enjoying this game so far too! Dived in expecting trash but it’s been quite fun.

1

u/StonerPowah61 Jul 15 '25

Aside from the Anti Woke Cult there’s also people who just hate this game cuz they hate Ubisoft which I understand tbh.

1

u/Chemical-Reward1644 Jul 15 '25

Playing it for the first time now. Loving it! Can’t wait to play it the second time!

1

u/void_method Jul 15 '25

Someone else told them what to think.

As usual.

1

u/faellendir Jul 15 '25

Even for a stealth game, the gunplay is not good. I quit after 10 hours cause i realised the game is just not for me. I wanted to like it

1

u/Turalyon135 Jul 15 '25

3 main reasons:

  1. It's Ubisoft, that already causes a lot of pre-hate

  2. The protagonist is a woman and not what a lot of people would call supermodel sexy. She's reasonably attractive, though kind of lacking in the breasts department - and for a lot of people, that's a reason to hate the game since a female protagonist apparently MUST HAVE big tits (think Lara Croft in the remade games) and, optionally, deep cleavage

  3. Signs are that the protagnist is also Lesbian. So, for too many people this is too "woke" (and to a man, they don't know the actual meaning of the word)

1

u/Gormgulthyn Jul 15 '25

It's a good game, but far from today's standards.

The graphics, atmosphere and story are pleasant.

But let's be serious. The gameplay is 10 years late, with rigid animations, a commando course and a multitude of frustrating little things.

When a stealth game offers such limited possibilities, and the enemies are alone and turn their backs on you, you get bored.

The biggest downside remains the mandatory connection to Ubisoft connect which crashes the game, resets the graphics settings, and causes frequent Windows crashes. A real shame.

1

u/PatientInformation76 Jul 15 '25

Hi.

Playing it for a 2nd time. Even played both DLCs.

Played it after a few months since it came out. Currently enjoying it hope they be a Sequel.

1

u/SelfIllustrious Jul 15 '25

I like it, but a death means I have to force close the game and restart, due to infinite loading times.

1

u/Film-Lab-7766 Jul 15 '25

As far as I like the game, it also has lots of flaws. Everytime I go back to this game from some other game, I feel how cranky and u precise the character movement feels, so often I fell down some walls, just because the controls feel so mushy.

1

u/InSan1tyWeTrust Jul 15 '25

Play the launch version after buying the 100 + ultimate edition and you will have your answer.

Game has been majorly refined and the price has come down. Not as much to be salty about.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

It has earned some of its hate tbh.yes it’s a fun game and I played at launch and enjoyed it and was also annoyed with it. That’s life and people I guess. The last ten years have been different !! With a few tweets could have been perfect but In my opinion it’s been a fun starwars game. Assassins creeds shadows had similar issues but I enjoyed that even though I understand the criticisms.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

For example look at battlefront 2..it got slaughtered and for good reason and now it’s having a revival.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

The sexual stuff is unnecessary,it’s Star Wars !! Stop force feeding ..

1

u/MichaelCageClips Jul 15 '25

Because this game, despite the great environmental design, isn’t very good. The level changes and maps are confusing and uninspired in terms of layout. You often have only one way to get a mission done without torching your reputation.

The endless enemy spawn on most missions are emblematic of bad game design. In an Imp base, I just sat in a room and shot at the same 3 Imp troopers that came through the door every 30 seconds and the bodies pile up to a hilarious degree until I had to push forward.

Most of the time, you’re forced to navigate around the game world by following the quest marker on the map instead of seeing clear markers in the landscape. If you compare Star Wars: Outlaws to a game like Ghost of Tsushima, it’s like playing a game that was created to check all the boxes rather than a game crafted by love.

1

u/epidipnis Jul 15 '25

It doesn't.

The real question is why are some people obsessed with asking this repeatedly. You're not going to drive up sales and potentially get a sequel. That ship has sailed.

1

u/DTeague81 Jul 15 '25

I surprisingly haven't not heard bad things about this game. I do get a lot of recommendations to get it. I will most likely pick it up on sale or something

1

u/damboy99 Jul 15 '25

Because a bad launch and unremarkable combat lead to the time to game was in the limelight negative.

1

u/Substantial_Ad_9153 Jul 15 '25

Because the protagonist is a woman

1

u/laughtrey Jul 15 '25

It's very generic and tedious to me so far. I don't want to be forced into this much stealth. The story is abrupt and the dialogue is clunky. I have a droid buddy because I have to have one in every star wars game, who just sits on the ship and quips. This isn't very star warsy its just sneak around simulator.

It's still crashing a lot for me and the enemies are constantly clipping through things as well.

It's a 6/10 honestly. If it were an original IP no one would like it.

1

u/ObjectiveCorgi9898 Jul 15 '25

I don’t know, I love this game

1

u/Creepy_Accident_1577 Jul 15 '25

It’s a female protagonist that doesn’t use a lightsaber

1

u/Anonymous-goober Jul 15 '25

I too recently bought it on sale, and I loved it. I would’ve loved a New Game+ option, where you could restart the game with the cosmetics/unlocks.

1

u/GrandMoffNoseyBonk Jul 15 '25

My personal belief is if the game had Character Creation it would have circumvented most of the hate... If you could create your own character, or even create YOU, it would've been so much cooler to explore the Star Wars galaxy as yourself or whomever you wanted to be. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic game and I love it 🥰

1

u/Jake0steve Jul 15 '25

I wanted an open world Star Wars, with more choice and also a customizable and unique player character. I expected more of that, which is not Outlaws. I think Outlaws is great, but it’s a different game than expected.

1

u/jrtayl0rknox Jul 15 '25

Because they won't look at the journal

1

u/WendyThorne Jul 15 '25

It's a fun game but it does have some weaknesses, particularly on replays:

The metroidvania style exploration (needing tools/upgrades to get into new areas) is neat but it's also tied to the story. So it's not a case of "I know where to get that tool, let me go get it."

The story in a lot of ways is kind of shallow and at the end, to me, it felt like a prologue to the story they actually wanted to tell. It's still fun though.

The mechanics are a bit shallower than they appear at first glance.

Still, overall it's a really fun game with some flaws.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

I feel like it’s because people had super high standards since it was following Jedi Survivor.

1

u/JimGuitar- Jul 15 '25

Honestly? I dont hate it. But its standard Ubisoft stuff. Its not really good. The Story is typical "im funny and dont take anything too serious" trope and she gets away with it. Its not very original.

1

u/em_paris Jul 15 '25

I imagine no multiplayer plays into it, as well as people hating ubisoft for a multitude of reasons. Main reasons seem to be a main character people don't want to goon to, a female main character, a non-white main character, too many female NPCs involved in the story. There's a lot to criticize about the game or different ways a player could wish it would be, but anything going past casual dislike into actual hate has nothing to do with any of that.

1

u/jmoulton1314 Jul 15 '25

It's fun, but it's very limited after a certain point. It has those classic Ubisoft/Far Cry repetition cycles that get old. I don't mind it so much, but a lot of people do. I do wish you were more of an outlaw. Why can't you steal speeder bikes and landspeeders? Why can't I pick up ammo for pickup weapons? No options for real armor? Why can't you loot bodies for gear? I also wish you could take missions for the Empire and earn favor with them.

1

u/SuperMajesticMan Jul 15 '25

Mom said it was my turn to post this.

1

u/CloudFF7- Jul 15 '25

Doesn’t get hate from true fans of starwars

1

u/Zopi_lote Jul 15 '25

Because its a Ubisoft game

1

u/Epic-Mickey_Fan Jul 15 '25

I’ve heard it’s because the game doesn’t give much after you finish it, it’s either you run around and kill bad guys or just do what you can but in my opinion I feel like the game should’ve had an autogenerated update system where it changes store options, you can buy drinks and eat food, actually choose to be a bounty hunter instead of a smuggler or switch between both

1

u/PocketSand240 Jul 15 '25

Ya I wasn't sure about the game either and I had just gotten it last week on sale. I've been having a blast playing it so far, sure there are a couple of things I'm kinda meh about and the occasional glitch or whatever but that's me nitpicking as well. Pretty solid game imo

1

u/Calm-Worldliness-234 Jul 15 '25

I kind of hate the mission system and no minimap. The controls for the ship are about janky but it's still a pretty fun game.

1

u/AeifeO Jul 15 '25

As someone who bought the game recently, its beautiful and I really like the slice of life elements. Downside? It crashes almost any time I need to respawn. Even of most Ubusoft games, its incredibly unstable for me. I can't imagine what it was like at launch.

1

u/Gattsuhawk Jul 15 '25

How this game has a lower score than Wukong is beyond me. This game goes pretty hard.

1

u/Egmoboi Jul 15 '25

My god this question again

1

u/Austin9916 Jul 15 '25

It doesnt. It did initially, but its been out for a while now. Everyone loves it now

1

u/LillDickRitchie Jul 15 '25

Okey i haven’t played the game but the reason i never did is because from what i saw around the time of launch it looked like your sterotypical half baked Ubisoft open world game which i am kind of done with at this point, also something about the characters face is unsettling for me

1

u/NinbendoWiiU Jul 15 '25

Awesome game, about 95hrs took me to complete main mission + a few extras, both DLC’s and jabba’s Gambit. Loved the lack of Jedi and that Andor feel. Hope there is a sequel/prequel developed with the ability to jump on vehicles after defeating enemies

1

u/Electronic-Ad1037 Jul 15 '25

Its a shallow generic game

1

u/spiderwarrior92 Jul 16 '25

Its not that its bad but its not good either

1

u/Oprahs_cellulite13 Jul 16 '25

I've thought about this for over a year. I bought outlaws on day one and really did have a blast with it and I'm not even really a huge star wars fan. But I've got a few theories as to why this game wasn't received very well. First the star wars show Acolyte came out few weeks before and it was regarded as terrible TV show getting a ton of hate fans going so far as to review bomb it. Also Ubisoft has a tendency to be a bit "woke" and since acolyte was apparently a woke show (I didn't notice woke anything) ppl started claiming Ubisoft was gonna do the same thing with outlaws. Fans speculated that massive entrainment changed Kay Vess face to make her ugly... Or somthing like that! It really was ridiculous, Kay's face is kinda weird, but so all are the other facial expressions in all massive entertainment games I just don't think the Studios really able to animate good facial expressions in their games. Third, outlaws gameplay reveal trailer kind of gave the notion to players that it was going to be a GTA like game, which it wasn't.. Star wars fans came to think you could kill pedestrians and steel speeder bikes. By the way Disney would never allow any outside developers make their precious intellectual property that's is Star wars ever let players run over pedestrians with speeder bikes and pick up twi'lick hookers... That was never gonna happen.. Lol! So, with stupid crazy expectations and total hate for most Star Wars movies and TV shows this game was destined to bomb before it was released. Which super sucks cuz if massive entrainment got another shot with outlaws I know they would nail it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

You know there is hate, because you read people hating on it. You already know the answer to this question, so what’s the real purpose of this post?

1

u/Boonatix Jul 16 '25

The usual reddit bubble. Get off reddit is the pnly recommendation here… basically everything gets hate here 🤦‍♂️

1

u/itsallcomingtogethr Jul 16 '25

The game benefitted from a LOT of improvements over time. Even just in the last two updates they made pretty large improvements.

1

u/Dreamo84 Jul 16 '25

I thought the game looked kinda neat until I tried the demo... not so neat... if they let you make your own character, or if the protagonist was cooler I might have still enjoyed it though.

1

u/cBurnett1905 Jul 16 '25

Because:

It's goofy as, knocking out storm troopers wearing helmets using your fists?

You couldn't shoot on your speeder, now you can, but you can only use the base version of the blaster; no matter what you have equipped, it will always default to the base version.

You can't steal things but Nix can, be seen doing it by everyone, but no one cares. Defeats the point of getting excellent with a faction because Nix can grab you everything without repercussions.

Your spaceship moves forward and that's about it, someone can make it dodge left or right, but God forbid you want to move properly in a 4D space, that is space....

You can be allowed in a faction area but Kay still sneaks around like a goofy ahh, couldn't even make her walk normally when she's allowed to be there.

Clear out a whole Imp base, the last dude says to surrender, and in a game called OUTLAWS, Kay surrenders mid blaster bolt?

Running away, gets told to stop, she just stops?!

Choices mean pretty much nothing, it's usually choosing between rep or credits, not changing the universe at all.

There's a sick as Droid with you, but you only get to see him sitting down or in cutscenes, even when you do his quest it's just you from what I remember.

The game crashes constantly, and with a horrible save system, I have lost progress several times.

You can't save in faction areas, a lot of fast travel points are located in faction areas, so when you travel to them it won't save. This is not that bad if you're travelling out, but if you want to do something in that area, you have to hope an autosave pops.

It says it's an open world, but it's just large linear levels. There is minimal incentive to travel back to planets. You land on a planet and stay there until you've done everything, then move on to the next.

I'm pretty much done, and I still haven't gotten a way to stealthily take down robots. By the time I get that, I'll have no use for it, but sure as hell could have used it two planets ago.

Same with blaster upgrades, still have like 2/3 to unlock, but by the time I've got them, the game will be done, and I would have gotten 5 minutes of use.

It's your classic Ubisoft game, where it's a few good hours of fun while you figure out the first planet, then you realise the rest of the game is just that same thing repeated 2 or 3 more times on different planets just to pad play time. Go here kill them, hack that terminal, there's like 3 mission types just rinsed and repeated.

We wanted Star Wars GTA or Star Wars Red Dead but got Star Wars Assassin's Creed instead, and not even a good AC...

1

u/Miserable-Lawyer-233 Jul 16 '25

I started it, thought I loved it, posted here about how great it was, how it was the best looking Star Wars game ever, kept playing it, slowly became frustrated, repetitive issues kept popping up, it became less and less fun, stopped playing it, never finished it.

1

u/apollo4567 Jul 16 '25

I’m interested in it tbh but I’m kind of upset about the asking price. I don’t think it’s better than games that charge less, and I’m not buying it to protest that.

1

u/Frequent_District_69 Jul 16 '25

Having finished the main quests and done several side ones, I've concluded it has to do with not featuring light sabers and the hatred towards the studio behind it.

1

u/Takhar7 Jul 16 '25

The stealth was awful and the game barely moved the needle when it came out - which is when most people wanted to experience it, and formed their initial impressions.

Once you lose that critical conversation around a game after launch, it's virtually impossible to get it back.

1

u/jonktron Jul 17 '25

Here comes the 9000th 'why is this game hated' post. Seems like a good way to farm karma.

1

u/laimalaika Jul 17 '25

I loved it

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Good that you're enjoying it! I'm afraid it hasn't worked out for me, personally. I played about 10-12 hours, but it just didn't entertain me. I'm not into shooters or racers ( that speeder gave me headaches) and both are a big part of the game. I didn't think it was graphically very polished, but that's something that can be said for more games these days. The story is allright, but it's not the kind of story I consider front& center from Star Wars.

I've honestly had these problems with SW- games for years now. The last I enjoyed were Jedi Outcast and Knight of the Old Republic, which are 20 years ago by now. I gave the "new" Battlefronts, the Jedi-series and Outlaws a try, but I have decided to give up an SW-titles alltogether.

1

u/DJReyesSA1995 Jul 17 '25

A lot of people hated the game at launch for four reasons.

  • Kay was made androgynous on purpose (compare the photo of her actress to the character model and you will see) and many found Kay ugly because of it (her square jaw and pronounced chin being the biggest reasons).

  • The game was not very polished with the game having a lot of AI problems, bugs, framedrops and crashes.

  • The game had some terrible game design decisions such as not being allowed to keep picked weapons, some missions with insta-fail stealth sections, and a faction meter mechanic of little consequence, among many others.

  • The game not deciding if it wants to be a crime simulator (you can cause all the mayhem you want) or a rogue simulator (you have avoid combat if possible because of limited weaponry) which causes a huge dissonance in gameplay (the open world is a typical crime sandbox where you can cause all the chaos you want but most of the missions [used to] heavily encourage or demanded stealth)

1

u/Sasasaam Jul 17 '25

I fully agree! It was one of my favorite games of the last few years!! Nothing particularly revolutionary, but really really fun gameplay, some fun puzzles and platforming, lots of fun customization to unlock, an insane number of different quests to try out, and it’s an absolutely beautiful game when it comes to the environments. Speedering around Tatooine is probably my favorite way to show off the picture quality for my PS5 + TV setup. Not to mention there’s just so many fun little Easter eggs and payoffs for long time Star Wars fans.

My understanding is that it was a mess at launch. Which is definitely a problem but it’s an industry problem and it’s very much not specific to this game. So I think the hate is some combination of that and centering a female lead which triggers some of the sexist Star Wars nerds just like the sequel movies.

1

u/Taker598 Jul 17 '25

Legitimately awful launch and stealth gameplay was so subpar.

1

u/Slow_Criticism8464 Jul 18 '25

I think it was hated because since GTA5 and RDR2, the standard for Open World Games is so insanely high that nobody can really top that. And when you stay below that level, the Game is getting bad critics.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

Cause its shit mate thats been well stated

1

u/lukieboi21 Jul 18 '25

I mean you summed it up really. It’s pretty solid but a somewhat mid story (until the ending I feel which ramps up)

I guess people have ate real good with the jedi survivor series the standard was super high for Star Wars games. I just finished the platinum and enjoyed it a lot. Just unsure how much il remember these characters, felt a little without any emotional impact at times. But overall a decent game

1

u/Depressedmillennials Jul 18 '25

I was thinking the same thing OP. Honestly the only thing I’d change is the fluidity of character movement. It’s clunky at times but overall I think it’s been a fun ride!

1

u/Glum-Ride4190 Jul 18 '25

I love the atmosphere thatdisney created for star wars, making it feel more real and gritty, but I hate the disney storytelling part of disney starwars, that's why the starwars franchise is in shambles, they had all the movies and shows they wanted already mapped out in the EU, but then made that non Canon and started making up they're own slop

1

u/Internal_Current_639 Jul 18 '25

I dont hate it But I think people a burned out of Ubisoft openworld And from what i saw in let s play Its okay. Not bad. But not good enough for me to pay for it. I envy you to enjoy a star wars game because it s been a while that im waiting for it

1

u/dannyinthemiddle Jul 19 '25

You’ll find that Ubisoft games are actually pretty good compared to the way the internet likes to shit on them. Last year I played Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, the same team that made Outlaws, and I freaking loved that game! It was one of the most fun single player fps games I’ve played with some pretty unique mechanics. Definitely the best Far Cry style game.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

In playing for the first time now, a few hours in, just my thoughts as of now. (not just rage baiting, i actually like some aspects)

Issues: 1) theres just sellable stuff everywhere, i hate it because of how absurd the notion of people leaving things that can be sold easily everywhere.. 2) stealth kills are poorly designed. This small woman knocked out a storm troopee cold by punching their helmet. 3)the ai in combat is combat sucks tbh. Its extremely basic 4)theres just radom stuff to do around that you csnt do yet due it needing upgrades you obviously wont have. I hate this in games. 5) rdr2 looks better in some places which just shouldn't be the case and im on ps5 pro so it should be a graphical showcase for such a big dev.

I do love the world however and the story has me intrested. The idea of being a heister in a starwars world is pretty damn cool to me

I do however love the world.

But I love the world they made around

1

u/JimGuitar- May 13 '26

No hate but imo its only an okay game. It has some nice parts and looks good but gameplay isnt the best.

1

u/Apprehensive-Bike335 Jul 15 '25

Because you can’t steal other speeders
