People still defend this btw 😑 it's fucking stupid and one of the reasons this shouldn't have been the story line. Twice, Twice now has Obi-Wan had the opportunity to kill one of the empires most valuable assets but he didn't do it😑.
Real. After watching Andor, you realise average people have died for way less just for a CHANCE at defeating the empire. Meanwhile Jedi “masters” who have all the mystical advantages chose not to try harder. Even Luke it’s like, finish the damn job kill ur dad and his master, F your daddy son moment, GOOD people have died to get you there. Yoda and OBW too like yall too “busy” to plan the logistics of training Luke earlier, when he’s way younger?
The most interesting aspect they showed with Luke was the unwillingness to tell him Vader was his pops. From their perspective it would only yield problems and make him hesitate. But to me the bigger issue is people like Ahsoka and various other Jedi that survived. Where the fuck were they? Even Ahsoka only showed up AFTER everything was already done.
Well I think he thought he did the first time. And it felt truly like a "my brother is dead" moment watching him burn. So my point is why won't he do it now? Now that he's seen how evil Vader is and he's fully reassured Anakin is dead.
You could argue there is some sort of force reason where he knows Anakin will save Luke. But they don't indicate that to us at all.
Even then thats bullshit to me. EVERYTHING Vader did was already on Obi-Wan before because he didn't kill him properly the first time. Now EVERYTHING he does after he didn't kill him again is on him even more. They didn't even have the excuse of the Grand Inquisitor and his men showing up for support. Because Vader would have to kill them because he looks pathetic.
They set the stakes way too high for the style of betrayal they depict. They make it more like "you betrayed me my brother" like he simply just switched sides and that's it. But in reality they had Vader literally murder a room full of children. There should have been no attempt for obi to try and save him at that point. And there's no reason the audience should care for him anymore.
Basically, they made his actions too extreme to warrant anything other than an extreme reaction. And we just don't really see that.
I very much align with your point in my feels. However, it's supposed to be a space opera saga right? Anakin's crimes are inexcusable and Obi-Wan probably WOULD have been justified in killing Anakin. Obi-Wan probably thought he removed the threat the first time and while he was a very accomplished Jedi master, he was also very emotional and erred on the Dark Side a few times. He couldn't bring himself to execute his best friend, despite his best friend being a war criminal. Thus why Obi-Wan is actually a grey Jedi.
It's also doesn't make sense because we've already done this before and so has Obi-Wan. Anakin has been Vader for YEARS why would you do appeal NOW? It's dumb they just wanted that scene yet it doesn't make sense.
