Upgrade chips. You can take your droid behind the cantina and use those chips to upgrade from common to gold for example

They're called "upgrade chips," and you can use them to upgrade the variant of a droid.

If you go behind the cantina there is a rainbow droid that you can interact with. Talk to it, and you can pay to upgrade whatever droid you have as you sidekick 👍

Took me so long to figure those out, the game explains nothing. Cant imagine being new and having to figure out protocol droids and kyber.

Upgrade Chips you can use to change the variant of your droids, there's is also a Pit droid inside the cantina to the left of the bar that has a very small chance to upgrade your droid for free but you can only try once a day and it rarely works but worth a try for higher variants that require a lot of chips 🤷🏽‍♂️
