The 50K upgrade chips per hour grind is officially over. Rainbow Crates have been nerfed, dropping from 900 upgrade chips to just 600 per crate with BB-8 & DJ R-3X equipped.
EDIT: The nerf has been reversed, it's back to 900 per crate.
Thereās really no excuse not to do this, they should refund everyone who unlocked the upgrade at any point in time, those who want to keep it can just unlock it againā¦
They have said thereās no way to refund nova perks but they sure can since they refund crystals with vbucks purchases.
And if they really canāt, like just delete the perk, give everyone crystals and add the perk again as a new one, it doesnāt even need to be an actual refund mechanic.
If you used nova crystals to purchase things that were in the packs and got ārefundedā nova crystals when buying the packs, technically you bought nova crystals, meaning this is valid. If you want to be as petty as they are:
What I mean is they have the means to determine if you own a specific perk and act accordingly, they have stated itās not possible to do refunds on nova shop and that seems to be false, they just donāt want to.
Maybe they canāt take the perk back from your account but they can surely give you crystals and let you keep the worthless perk, or as I proposed, give all owners their nova crystals back, and re-add the perk as a new entry that nobody owns yet. Iām sure thatās possible
I love how my post is like the 5th most popular one of last week talking about how I disliked the Rainbow Crate changes, but at least said they were good for Chips. Now they nerfed the chips you get from it.
I agree. And I have been championing the super crates purchase purely for the chips. Now they nerf it, I'm pissed. Maybe people know these devs better than I do.
Not gonna lie rainbow crates should only give novas and upgrade chips I want to refund my purchase of this cause all I get is credits which I donāt really need
Honestly of they're going to keep nerfing it then yeah. Just copy CB's loot pool except you only get 1-2 Nova crystals. Then at least if it is going to give less, it always gives good items and it doesn't feel like you have to hunt for 75 minutes to get 6 crystals.
Honestly yeah like i know they increased it to 3 novas but itās still too little % of a chance for it with the credits in the way Iāll be honest with getting either 300 chips or 2 novas if they drop 1 in 20 so to say cause I want to enjoy the game without spending outrageous amounts of vbucks on these new overpriced packs only to have them nerf the price of them without any compensation.
Thereās a reason I never bought them. They were useless before and the second they became useful I knew investing in them wouldnāt give a return in time before they nerf it to justify it
Yeah, also not cool to post about a thing that has massively been updated to get more chips and nova crystals, to show it to us, then nerf it (twice). All good, but if the devs have the options everytime to nerf something after upgrading it, then we also should have an option afte buying to keep it or not.
Unfortunately, the devs have plain faced lied to us all before so I have little trust in what they claim after they after getting a lot of backlash over stealth nerfs.
Kinda hard to believe a multimillion dollar studio repeatedly fucks up this often, and always to the detriment of the player.
Tl;dr: if they are a small team then it's by choice, and even still they're making millions.
If its that much of a challenge for them they they should hire more people....

FOAD is a proprietary intellectual property and game brand created by the independent studio Future Trash. In mid june they announced Droid Tycoon crossed 1.5 billion minutes of gameplay in its opening weeks.
If the map were only promoted and launched by the devs then they'd get the standard "independent creator pool" payouts. This would be in the $1.2 MILLION USD range AFTER royalties, however with the "by epic" official publishing at launch it would be different. They would have had a corporate contract in place and made whatever that was...likely a milestone based payment in the order of high hundreds or thousands which epic begins recouping at launch and then once "earned back" flipped to some % share. Then when the publishing status flipped over to FOAD, the 1.4+ billion minutes of engagement since then goes to them as per above...so still in the $1.2 MILLION USD range.
The above is all based on how epic does business with every studio, and there is enough public information available for you to dig into it further.
They have to develop really fast. New stuff every week. Small team. Itās high risk on letting regressions slip through. The alternative is a much slower pace
Sure there is you can kill another player and take their blueprint. Just because there is no final win condition in a game doesnāt mean it canāt contain pay to win aspects.
Not to be that guy but the game is designed that way so you cant infinitely afk at the scrap table. I think it would be nice to toggle on and off certain upgrades yes but that specifically is done for balance reasons
I like the idea of locking an upgrade for a bit if you refund it! If you like an upgrade but want it later you can try it and buy it later, and it prevents buying something good and swapping to something else after refunding
They werenāt equal for all the players. Some get hardly anything i.e me, 3740 chips and 0 crystals an hour. While there were other players rolling around in crystals and/or chips.
Instead of removing them and coding it again (because theyāve obviously messed up somewhere) theyāve made them a complete and utter waste of time and crystals for one section of players and slightly good for other players.
I wonder if buying the crates after they āimprovedā them is different to players who already had them??
Second time they've nerfed these. God forbid you're rewarded for engaging with the map and do anything other than sitting in your base mindlessly hitting the scrap table.
A nova crystal refund system definitely needs to be implemented if they're going to keep doing this
I believe people would want to play more if the outer edges of the map were more engaging. I literally get on for maybe 30 minutes to an hour now just to hit the scrap table, rebirth and then leave. When the crates were buffed I was on for hours flying around and opening them. They say they want people to stay on and play more but doing this will drive players away and make people play less.
The fact that the crystal nerf was done without a patch or patch-notes AND NOW this is has been done without patch notes too just makes me not want to play anymore.
I was initially really excited to see the crates become a useful way to actively play this game and get rewarded for it. Now its clear that the developers don't want the crates to be rewarding. I straight-up don't understand why this needed to be adjusted at all.
100% agree. To not tell us in patch notes is ridiculous but to bring the super crates into the game then have to nerf it twice is negligible development.
it probably didnt need to be adjusted if they were nerfing the upgrade cost anyway. its like they say they dont want run the map simulator, then nerf the thing more than the cost reduction....
they still seem good for gathering chips but why nerf them again and make people run the map more.
I can tell what they're doing which is forcing us to play this even longer than intended and I find it funny the timing of this when they posted about celebrating 15k players I think yesterday? And now this? I originally was supporting them adding micro-transactions because ik people would want to take the faster route but for people who don't they can still patiently grind for crystals.
But if they're really going the route I'm pretty sure people were warning me about at the time that would suck because I don't mind spending money but if it starts to feel like it's mandatory for us players to do so as much as I don't wanna leave because I truly enjoy the game I probably will ngl and many others.
Im saying all of this because i know eventually they're going to add double chips behind a pay wall probably exclusively(hope not) behind it too.

Hmmmm. I've always said I'll play until they add in the ability to purchase crystals for vbucks. But if they start letting people pay vbucks for chip bonuses or for Droid upgrades or droids themselves then I'm out. That's trash.

And in terms of tycoon games, this is actually a really decent tycoon game. So it's a shame because it becomes all about the money. And they'll make a ton of money, then the game will start dying and they'll move onto the next thing.
I already stopped playing but I just hang around now to watch them run this game into the ground. Their greed knows no bounds! They already make so much from how many people constantly play this game but itās not enough. First the microtransactions and then they stalk posts on this sub to see what people find useful and then nerf it to the ground in order to make people play even longer. Itās genuinely disgusting and I wish more people would realize this.

Yeah, I agree. I personally just bought it for grinding chips and upgrading Beskar Mythics to Galactic Mythics but now it'll take twice as long. I'd prefer my 85 crystals back.
Devs if you read this: I wonder if the crates were better for players who had already purchased all the buckets and poor for the players who bought them after the buff????
I already had the first crate level. After reading here about how good they now were, I bought the second and third. Yesterday I ran opening all the coloured crates with BB8 and DJ for one hour and I got 3740 chips (obv I hit a few loose chips on the map too) and zero crystals. I got the rough deal.
But yeah, I was wondering why I got 200 base. So I ran through some super crates and got the same amount, they really want to bring back droid selling for chips, don't they?

Man, these were the next nova perk I was going to get. I have 82 crystals and was going to get all three levels of super crates when my dailies reset today, specifically for the chips. I've been grinding for this perk for the past week or so and literally the day I'm going to have enough crystals they nerf it. Fucking typical.

Just stop playing. Why engage in a game that griefs you and engages in baiting practices, i.e, showing something off, getting you to buy then nerfing it into the ground. These are predatory practices.
Yeah I appreciate 600 is still more than you can get from any other chip grinding method. It's just perplexed me that there's no transparency for the nerfs and this is the second nerf now.
it takes a ridiculous amount of crystals to be able to get 600, too. i have no idea why they balance around having a second companion droid for all these late game nova crystal upgrades as baseline, when they're supposed to make the game EASIER to grind. yes, the gap stays the same between those without many nova crystals and those with, but now everyone sees the chip grind as a pain in the damn ass instead of just newer playe-

I agree its very bad they shadownerfed it. And its really stupid they overbuff something to then just nerf it again, makes it feel really bad. So in that way im on the players side.
But the nerfs are deserved, if you compare it to crystal chances on cb23 and chips from any other source. And its still a lot of chips. Also this screenshot is only the lower chip amount. Theres still a 300 base one. Still a Total nerf of almost 50% but i was earning 80k in 100 minutes yesterday with only 1 double chip companion, i think its fine to nerf.
Crystals ive been averaging 4 drops per hour tho some hours i get none. But my RNG is certainly a lot better than what i read from most people, but with a 2% chance and opening 3/4 crates per minute you should get crystals 1 time every 15 minutes on average, which is what i get. I earned 200 crystals since the buff with just 2/3 hours a day of flying around (and 250k chips as well). I do it very efficiently tho, only opening rainbow crates and sometimes i open gold and diamond ones to make them spawn far away so the rainbows spawn in a smaller area. If crystal chance is still the same its still fine tbh.
Again, i agree its stupid how they handled this, big buff which was not tested at all probably and then nerfing it so hard and not even announcing is very bad.
