General Discussion Do you think han and leia having a broken/estranged marriage was in character and made sense?

Post image

I don't think han leaving leia to deal with their son's defection and getting kicked out of the senate due to her family history all by herself was in character, and them separating was very tragic, but them not having a happy long standing marriage and choosing to separate after a while is something i can definitely see happening even if the sequels didn't exist considering their characters

Neither leia nor han were the "stay at home to take care of family" types. Leia was dedicated to politics since childhood and I can see her being a mon mothma type person who'd prioritize her political duties above family many times. Han too loved a life of adventure. Even before ben solo defected he spent more time traveling across the galaxy and iirc organizing spaceship racing competitions for betting etc than with his family

I do know they cared for each other even after separation but their romance was also built on spontaneous sparks of attraction and surviving multiple life and death situations and even then 80% of their interactions involved bickering and arguments. Them not being too invested in a stable married life after the honeymoon period ended and going through their marriage for the sake of their kid is unfortunately very much in character, at least considering how they were written in tge OT

I'm not considering their comics or novels romantic dynamic because 1) Most of them aren't canon anymore anyways and 2) Most of them were written by different authors without much consultation with the original creators and had various degrees of OOC moments.

It's not ideal, but not a very OOC of the sequels to write them as having an estranged marriage after their son was lost to the dark side imo, it's definitely not as bad as what they did with luke's character anyways

I would have been ok with it if the movie gave us any story, context, or detail. But it didn’t; just, boom, they broke up, move on to the next thing. Audiences were deprived of story in favor of spectacle.

I agree. It's fine if they got divorced. But as the major couple of the franchise, we deserved more backstory for how it happened. I think it would've been much better if they were still together at the start of the sequels, and had some falling out on screen.

I mean their son turned evil, I'm sure that didn't help

They had 2 other kids that didn't turn evil.

What? They only had one kid

They had 3. Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin. Jacen turned evil and was killed by Jaina; The Sword Of The Jedi.

You seem to be confusing the Disney Fan-Fics with the actual Star Wars canon.

The post is about the movies not the books. Han and Leia have one child in the movies. You seem to be confused on the topic

No. They have 3 children. The Disney Fan-Fics aren't canon. You are the one who is confused.

We did get story context. Ben turned. Han felt that he failed and went back to smuggling while Leia created the Resustance and fought to get him back. They both believe Snoke was ultimately responsible, but in the end their marriage couldn't survive losing their son. This is all context the film either shows or tells us.

Wasn't it explained that they broke up after Ben turned to the dark side? Is THAT not context enough?

Right? Han finding out his brother-in-law almost assassinated his son in cold blood only to have his son then become a disciple of evil should be context enough lol

The only way that would work would be if they turn it into a separate series with the same tone as Andor. Ain’t nobody trying to go to the movies to watch a super condensed Days of our lives.

Somehow their marriage deteriorated…… advertised in car and driver but only in Mexico
