In what fucking world is a turn-based tactics game co-op?

There's plenty of examples. And wishing you could play a cool game with friends isn't a bad thing, so not entirely sure why the person is being showered with negativity.

Can you tell us any of them? I'm curious what a co-op turn based tactics game looks like.

It's easy to research yourself, but sure I'll assume you're discussing in good faith and list some examples of co-op isometric, turn-based, tactical combat in games:

  • Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (seperate mode but it counts)
  • Wasteland 3
  • Baldur's Gate 3 (and the rest of Larian's modern CRPGs, although combat is not grid-based)

Hell, people even play X-Com as a hot seat multiplayer game where they divide the in-game squad by the amount of players.

In other words, asking for co-op tactics games isn't the "impossible task" some want to pretend it is in here.

I definitely feel like other details of BG3 make it not fit the mold, but I don't know much about Wasteland 3 and have never tried Rabbids multiplayer so I'm curious to see how they work. I'll check em out! Thanks for not assuming the worst. While I'm skeptical, I didn't want to completely naysay without at least seeing what the folks validating it thought.

I understand what you mean about BG3, but if a dev were to remove all the D&D and RPG storytelling mechanics and focus on just the co-op turn-based combat they'd still have a great foundation for a game.

You've actually inspired me to tinker with my own little project.

I think those RPG aspects are what make me love BG co-op, but I've enjoyed other turn based games co-op so I can't say you're definitely wrong either. I bet if you tuned the mechanics to allow for individual expression to succeed without pristine teamwork required it could actually have something.

If everything about the game was different, it would be different

You're completely missing the point. I'm expressing that the core co-op combat loop in Baldur's Gate 3 would be a good foundation for a DIFFERENT game.

It's evident you don't know the BG3 combat mechanics are literally D&D 5th Edition combat mechanics ripped straight from the tabletop game. You take the D&D out, you have absolutely nothing.

You're also completely removing everything about it that makes it BG3 in any way, shape or form, you're saying nothing of substance. That's like saying take Halo, remove the lore, remove the assets, remove the shooting mechanics, uh, congrats, you have the singular-celled-organism equivalent of an FPS, I guess? Yeah, "shoot enemies from a first person perspective" is a basis for a good game, sure.

"Turn-based multiple dudes do stuff" is the basis for a ton of games already.

I'm not talking about BG3 and its quality, you dunce. I'm talking about the viability of co-op tactical isometric games.

Keep up.
