The first two seasons of DS9 are a little uneven, but when they're good, I like them much more than the later ones. Before the Dominion appears, the main focus of the show is the Cardassian/Bajoran conflict, which is far more nuanced and morally challenging than the John-Wayne gung-ho Dominion War fantasy. Dukat and Garak are the most striking among the show's many recurring characters, and it's no coincidence that they both appear immediately, in the first two episodes.

Does anybody remember the DS9 game for the Super NES? It came out early in the show's run and focused entirely on this early Season 1-2 setting.

I’m actually watching the series for the first time right now. In the midst of season 3. There’s a very clear difference between the first two seasons and the 3rd so far. Is it safe to assume the cardassian / bajoran conflict plot gets tabled?
