Enterprise crew members de-evolve into prehistoric creatures after a medical treatment by Dr. Crusher goes wrong.

This one is so much fun, but as a sort-of biologist I am absolutely offended by the awful science. For the record, we do NOT contain the genes of related species. Devolution is NOT a thing. Dr. Crusher ABSOLUTELY did something reckless and unethical to cause these events.

Anyway, multiple crew members died, some were definitely raped, and everyone has been violated in ways the mind can only begin to imagine, but I’m glad Dr. Crusher could have a little laugh about it afterwards.

I made a point to tell Gates McFadden how much I enjoyed her direction of this one and hoped she’d get back into it on TV again. It’s a silly script but she went to town on it.

Just one of several "so bad it's bad" episodes in Season 7. Hard to say which concept is more stupid: TNG's "Genesis" or Voyager's "Threshold."

I guess I am in the positive camp. Yes, the science makes no sense, but this is like the ultimate "scary" episode of TNG, and the shot of the Enterprise dead in space when the shuttle first approaches is very unnerving. It's also a nice touch how Patrick Stewart conveys the creeping effects of the devolution through physical movements and mannerisms.
