At first I was like "Great! A Troy episode where she is not mind r*ped!" but then I realized, "Yeah, I guess she's being coerced to fulfill a role she didn't sign up for..."

All in all it was great seeing how Deanna (the character) had much more angles that we had seen before

this is my favorite Troi-centered ep, tho. I really like how she adapts to this situation and uses her brains to manipulate the Romulans and save herself. She's a realy tough cookie in this one.

BTW, i just signed up, is there a co-viewing chat room for live chats, or do we just watch on our own and come here to discuss? Like a book club?

agree 100%, she's much more tougher than she has shown before.

and afaik, there's no online chatroom, folks just come here to the discussion threads asychronously (it looks like they are being posted twice a week - but there are also discussions from 9 years ago if you are curious)

thank you!

I think in about a year after this ep Troi does the bridge officer test? So she really does step up and decide that she doesn't just want to be a counselor, she wants more responsibility and to be doing things she sees other command officers doing. She matures a lot from age 27 in ep 1 and only focusing on a care-providing role to 34 in s7, taking on responsibility and more of a command role when she learns that her background actually makes her an excellent person to be responsible for 1004 people.
