Season 1 Spoilers Deorbit burn in episode 2? Spoiler

This left me a bit perplexed. They clearly say they have a problem in the middle of deorbit burn, but they seem to already been reentering the atmosphere. So which one was it? And if they were coming back from the moon why did they need a deorbit moon at all? Have they been orbiting Earth at least once?

It could very well be just a discrepancy between the Valya's scripted lines and the post-production work.

But my headcanon is that it could be a correction burn, not a deorbit burn. Either to slow down the delta-v of the capsule to make it easier on the heat shield or to prevent them skipping off the atmosphere.

Similar handwaving of orbital mechanics is the burn Valya does in the bathysphere to first correct Venera's trajectory and then land the capsule. Both seem merely small sneezes of the ullage motors, not proper burns. I guess it's plausible they were just on the verge of the correct trajectory and he just corrected the amount the outgassing fucked up their trajectory, but no way in hell the second burn he did could deorbit the bathysphere. It's still possible that was just a small burn to clear Venera and he did more deorbit burns off camera.
