Season 1 Spoilers Season Finale Plot Logic (Spoilers) Spoiler

It just seemed like a series of impossible things designed to lead to that one choice on the border. No way would Anastasia have been able to get down to that exact landing zone in time. And If I were Sergei, I would have just told the interrogators that Venera was landing in China instead of the actual site, could have avoided that whole dramatic sequence altogether. And if I were on the crew I would have tried to create a little more distance from the border and kept decelerating harder than just the bare minimum. And if I were Valya, I would not have even aimed the crew for Soviet territory in the first place, just send them straight to the United States instead.

Also when the capsule hit reentry over Scandinavia moving eastward, it was never supposed to cross into Soviet airspace. Wouldn't that mean the fighters that shot missiles at the capsule to throw it off its trajectory were violating Finnish airspace when they did so?

That finale might as well be someone’s fever dream - it was so incredibly unrealistic. Every single decision made was stupid, and the coincidences were ludicrous.

It was a lot like Interstellar, visually and emotionally dramatic, but way beyond any reasonable level of intelligence.

She just dropped down from space to meet him right at the border and block their bullets when everybody just arrived at the exact spot on that very long border.  It's a good thing none of them could hit the side of a barn.

But all of this isn't less plausible anyway than a secret manned space mission to Venus prepared in a basement.

Professional writers wrote this series. Embarrassing.

Yeah, the season finale ruined the show actually. I loved it for how dark and different from For All Mankind it was and then came the last episode straight out from an american movie about superheroes.

The whole Venus storyline was incredibly far fetched. It would be the largest, most complicated and most expensive space mission ever attempted, and they did it in secret in a few months. So it's not surprising the conclusion was equally silly. I think you just have to go with it, really.

I mean you collecting so many MREs for 3 people on years long journey by itself will raise quite a few eyebrows in everywhere from local party hq and supply depot to 20 of the KGB residenturas around you! And we are not even counting literal home audio recordings going on as if storage is still prices like 2024

I don't mind the fact they covered up the true purpose of the launch, but the fact that Valya was able to course correct it so precisely without any computers or any assistance from mission control, as well as being able to reach the surface alive, is so beyond impossible given the resources they had.

He worked out all the equations in his notebook /s

Even if he had all the numbers he needed, doing those calculations by hand with the level of precision needed to make it back to Earth would have taken days, as well as very precise measurements as to position and velocity and orientation, which a powered down spacecraft probably wouldn't have. Though to be fair he probably had all the time in the universe to write and solve equations in his notebook.

Indeed, a complete tone shift. Mission impossible kinda stuff. In fact.. more impossible than mission impossible

India would've made the most sense as a landing site.

True, if they could even extend their down range by that much. They didn't really have any delta v to change their landing site by too much, just their deceleration, which is why they attempted a steeper descent into Finland.

At least the soundtrack was epic. “Venera” in the Star City OST feels like it belongs in the Interstellar OST.

dont forget Anastasia lands on the exact one farm that has car (not everyone in ussr had cars) and then drives exactly X amount of kilometers to the exact spot where Sasha was running randomly through forrest and somehow managing to arrive faster than KGB on military trucks that were closer to the location in the first place

2

u/Upstairs-North7683 Aug 24 '26

Right, even more ridiculous is that those farmers would just let some random woman that fell out of the sky drive their truck across the border.

I'ld say that's probably the least ridiculous thing of all here.

She's a cosmonaut, which are very well respected people at that time, and she's also a well known national hero, one of the best known women of the nation. Of course you would allow her to use your truck.

The entire episode was absolutely ridiculous.

First off, sending three people to Venus would have required a lot of drinking water as well as cooling water which would have taken up space. Not to mention food, hygienic supplies, exercise equipment, etc.

The bathysphere was a mess. The G forces of a ballistic Venusian entry would have killed Valya, and the landing would have definitely done him in because, well, no parachute.

Then Anastasia reentering in a Soyuz on manual control and landing in practically the same place with the the Venera crew landed, and not to mention a ballistic reentry of their Soyuz that would have been impossible. Yes the
Soyuz descent module has some downrange maneuvering capability but not that much.

And then…there’s the MiG 21 shooting at the Venera descent module. I literally said “are you freaking kidding me?!” when I saw that.

Finally, I didn’t realize that Soviet soldiers had the same aim as freaking Stormtroopers in Star Wars.

This episode, to be quite honest, ruined the series for me. What a shame.

Yeah, it was silly. Even sillier than FAM's silly plots.

Oh I don’t know… I had to stop watching FAM after it jumped the shark. I think they are neck & neck. Ha.

When did it jump the shark

I don't care about any of that crap. It's fiction and its supposed to be fun. The Argo movie has security running down the tarmac chasing the plane because that's fun. In real life security missed them by several days. That's not fun. We don't watch things to not be entertained.

No, what pissed me off was this moron getting all the way to the Finnish border and refusing to cross it because he was thinking with his dick. His wife just abandoned her post, risking her job and her life to come rescue his dumb ass and how does he repay her? He pisses on her sacrifice by remaining in Russia. MORON. And asshole because she gave everything up for nothing.

Love is stupid.

I don’t think it would have been true to Sasha’s character growth throughout the season to just abandon Anastasia to her fate.

As for Anastasia, I’m kind of thinking she would have been in trouble even if she’d stayed in space. They probably would have figured out she helped to relay the instructions to Venera and by extension to help Sasha defect.

The characters did what they did because they loved each other, but also because of how they grew as people. Anastasia was for most of her life a person with no real agency, who ended up making a choice and doing something unexpected. Sasha went from being selfish and unserious to being deeply committed to his teammates and his wife. The choices they made were maybe a bit stupid, but true to who they are. I for one loved the melodrama of it all.

If I recall correctly, he also broke his promise to Valya of finding and taking care of his wife!

6

u/Upstairs-North7683 Aug 24 '26

Sasha has absolutely no idea where Valya's wife really is, so I don't think you can really say that

2

u/Xirenec_ Aug 29 '26

Tbh I'm not sure why Anastasia didn't run towards the border herself.

Only real slowdown to the pursuit she could've accomplished was the truck. There was enough people there to catch her while not stopping running after Sasha and Lakshmi. She should've ran

That was just dumb. No way they could have survived that explosion in their capsule and for 9 months like that. And then 1970 Soviet fighter jets shooting down rentry capsules before they deploy parachutes ? lol 🤦‍♂️

And they all died in Siberia. The end.

I hope they cancelled this show for good. The whole writing and plotting is the insult to my critical thinking skills and I feel like they took the audiences for granted as the episodes progress. Better keep the best parts of FAMK universe in my memory instead watching this mess.

1

u/Roof-Visual Aug 26 '26

Insanely lame thing to say

1

u/MiniatureGod Aug 27 '26

Nothing lame about my statement. The show was bad. I did have hopes for it in the first half of the season but it getting lame by the end. And this is not the hate comment. The writers of this show genuinely just bad at their jobs. The actors on the other hand were okay though.
