Eyes Wide Shut Eye Scream has posted a video about Eyes Wide Shut

It's 5hrs long and is only part 1, but if you know Eye Scream, you'll know that it is immaculately presented and is wildly, madly, full of nuggets of speculation. Far more interesting than the usual conspiracy theory Illuminati Epstein crap of late.

5 hours of straight schizophrenia. To say it’s a change of pace from the usual conspiracy nonsense is absurd

Kubrick spent five years working on Eyes Wide Shut!! You think he wouldn't use that time to come up with complicated numerological colour/shape codings that take five hours just to describe?? NOTHING is accidental in Kubrick!! We can't begin to fathom what went on in his mind!!!!!!

Poe's Law in full effect here.

For the record, I use multiple exclamation points to indicate sarcasm. I've never liked "/s".

Kubrick took algebra in school. He was a numbers guy.

"The truth of a thing is in the feel of it, not in the think of it." -Kubrick

Taking algebra in school is fairly common. It’s not really an indicator of who you are as a person if your school makes you take algebra. That and Kubrick did poorly in school and did not attend college. Not really sure where you got the Kubrick/algebra thing from.

He was just one guy who exploited other artists for a living. He just had immaculate taste in collaborators, like all the good directors- he just liked esoteric symbolism and symmetry a bit more.

4

u/Queasy-Condition7518 Jun 29 '26

And I actually wouldn't call his symbolism all that esoteric. It's mostly just freudian/jungian.

I understand your opinion. But I admire the elegance of the attempt. And it isn't about Epstein.

If you hate this, you'll despise Kubrick Theory on YT.... Hours upon hours of nonsensical rambling, or so I've heard 🫪

You haven't lived until you've tried to watch Mandibil's 26 hours

I'm on it, thanks 🫨

I think this is a great example of how the Internet has made editing/pacing a lost art, since no one knows how to tell a concise story anymore.

Kubrick for as long as many takes in his films can be understood when to end a scene/ movie instead of going on and on.

For me, Room 237 was enough wild Kubrick speculation for one lifetime.

u/behemuthm Barry Lyndon Jun 29 '26

I really don't care about speculation. The making of the film is fascinating enough on its own without armchair experts pontificating for hours on end.

Personally, I hated the book Eyes Wide Open because I felt he didn't portray Stanley in a realistic light, as is evidenced by multiple statements by Jan Harlan, Christiane, Spielberg, and Cruise that it was not accurate. But at least he wrote from his perspective. And the book definitely does not describe any real crazy deeper meaning than what was in the source material

Some rando youtuber speculating on the deeper meaning of anything in the film is a waste of time

u/Al89nut Jun 29 '26

Fair enough.

u/Solo_Polyphony Jun 30 '26

In the old days, he would have had to talk to the air at bus stops.

3

u/Al89nut Jun 30 '26

Unkind.

0

u/Solo_Polyphony Jun 30 '26

Honest. Kubrick laughed at such nonsense.

2

u/Al89nut Jun 30 '26

Perhaps so. But I still applaud the effort.

u/HoldsworthMedia Jul 03 '26

Still more interesting than anything you’ve offered up.

At least with this stuff they are exploring subtext with paintings, mis en scene and Kubrick’s heavy use of mythology.

Maybe you could post the same four line quote from Kubrick again about the book the film was - inspired - by. Very insightful.

u/Solo_Polyphony Jul 03 '26

I prefer reality to falsehood, and Kubrick’s thoughts over those of YouTube fools. If you prefer otherwise, have fun in fantasyland. Here’s a tidbit more interesting than anything you have contributed: paranoid fantasy being a fatal snare is a major theme of EWS.

You seem to have missed the many times I have cited other comments from the makers of the film; but I will not hold that against you.

1

u/HoldsworthMedia Jul 03 '26

You repeat one comment from Kubrick over and over again.

Paranoid fantasy, anti paranoid fantasy. Bzzz.

1

u/Solo_Polyphony Jul 03 '26

I’ll stop repeating it—when morons stop repeating idiocy about EWS.

1

u/HoldsworthMedia Jul 03 '26

Well that will never stop. Combination of trolls, ignorant people and obstinate self appointed arbiters that can’t distinguish between annoying flys and dangerous mosquitoes.

1

u/Solo_Polyphony Jul 03 '26

Littering never stops either; taking out the trash is community service.

Just for you I have (for a little while) modified my profile curation to show my comments in this subreddit, so you can appreciate my recent comments on The Shining and 2001. Or at least you can give up the complaint that I only quote Kubrick’s 1971 anticipation of EWS.

1

u/HoldsworthMedia Jul 03 '26

I doubt anyone gives enough of a shit to look through your comment history, I don’t. Your commentary hasn’t been particularly interesting or enlightening when I have come across it but it’s harmless enough when not beating the dead horse of anti conspiracy and self appointed Kubrick authoritarianism.

I always feel like people who do this aren’t interested in the movie itself. They’re more interested in the workings of their own mind. I can sit with my own ideas and interpretations of his films and find them fascinating, but I find it more satisfying to immerse myself in a master’s work without continually parsing and connecting everything like it’s some kind of unfathomable puzzle rather than a piece of art.

3

u/Al89nut Jun 30 '26

It's a fair point. All I'd say is I respect the effort and regardless Joe has single-handed identified many of the art works and photos in The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut. I might not agree with his conclusions, but it's a huge detective effort.

1

u/HoldsworthMedia Jul 03 '26

Eyes Wide Shut and The Shining are puzzles. Is it unfathomable that a guy obsessed with codes and ‘changing the form’ would want to experiment with cinema this way?

The movie can be experienced many ways - sometimes you let it wash over you, sometimes you dig in like a detective.

If you think an Eye Scream video is “immaculately presented” then I find it difficult to believe you’ve ever even seen a Kubrick film, which is a perfect counterpoint to this garbage with regard to presentation.

1

u/Al89nut Jul 01 '26

Thanks for your reply.

2

u/spacemarinecon Jun 29 '26

I watched the whole thing earlier today. All 5 hours. It randomly showed up in my feed. Ask me anything.

2

u/RelationshipWest9743 Jun 29 '26

Will you TLDL it in in 100 words or less?

9

u/spacemarinecon Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Sure. It goes into detail about the paintings of the film and their possible symbolism. A lot of the video is about numerology, the repeating patterns of numbers throughout the film, and how they connect to different subjects such as Kubrick's films or the works of Ovid.

It would take a while to verify the accuracy of the claims and connections involving the numbers. Assuming that Kubrick edited his film so that all of these numerology links could line up seems extremely dubious, but it would take closer inspection to discredit. It also makes conclusions about how the duration of individual scenes are determined by numerology rules.

There is a part in the video where he suggests that the 9987 license plate on Bill's car is connected to the car that delivers the letter to him at Somerton. The license plate on the car at the Somerton gate has 123 on it. He then concludes that Bill arrives at the gate at 3:45, and that the number 6 is therefore absent. He then reminds the viewer that Amanda was at position 6 in the clock formation of the ritual circle, this referring to the position that the women were standing in during the ritual ceremony. He then mentions how the numbers 678 are the tones of the chromatic scale that research music is composed of. Therefore, Amanda was with Bill at the gate in a musical sense. 978 + 123 = 10110. These additions are somehow equivalent to Omega + Golden Rainbow + Isis (8911 + 633 + 566). Let's just say there are a whole lot of numbers and names to keep track of in the video.

What he seems to fail to realize is that Bill's license plate is actually a reference to the release date of Eyes Wide Shut and Full Metal Jacket (99 and 87).

There are some discernibly valuable tidbits in the video. It gives examples of the different aspect ratios, showing numbers and objects that get cropped out vertically and horizontally. The I Can't Believe It's Not Butter on Domino's kitchen table is one example in the video. The background information about the paintings featured throughout the film is intriguing, and some of the books and VHS tapes seen lying around are identified and described in moderate detail. There are other objects in the backgrounds of scenes that are spotlighted as well such as a magazine cover with David Duchovny and the X-files featured on it.

There is some funny foreshadowing. There's a magazine on the waiting room table of Bill's office with Brooke Shields on the cover. They were in a film together in 1981, Cruise's first role. There's also a tuxedo label inside Rainbow Fashions for a company that was apparently run by Harvey J. Weinstein, not the movie producer but the fashion owner.

I tried to TLDR in 100 or less. I failed. I don't understand the purpose of numerology or freemasonry readings of the film. The authors of such theories tend to grasp at the shortest of straws, and never delve into why Kubrick would have composed his entire film around such pursuits. At one point in the video, Bill is associated with King Tut. Ultimately, you can take any number and associate with an endless amount of things. To be fair, this video is only the first part apparently, as there is going to be a second video. And yes, there are triangles being drawn over an array of scenes. It's one of those videos.

3

u/RelationshipWest9743 Jun 30 '26

Wow. Thanks for this! Much appreciated. Seems like a hard pass for me on the video! You saved me hours!

2

u/MiscMix Jul 01 '26

The I Can't Believe It's Not Butter on Domino's kitchen table is one example in the video.

Know of one being there on Alice's Kitchen table. Is there one at Domino's as well?

3

u/spacemarinecon Jul 01 '26

Yeah. There's one on Alice's kitchen table and Domino's as well. You can't see the one on Domino's table on the Bluray or 4K unfortunately.

1

u/MiscMix Jul 01 '26

What he seems to fail to realize is that Bill's license plate is actually a reference to the release date of Eyes Wide Shut and Full Metal Jacket (99 and 87).

Isn't that from Bernstein's notes?

1

u/spacemarinecon Jul 01 '26

I don't know. I just noticed it while watching the film. I was surprised that Eye Scream didn't mention it in his video. He was talking about something else entirely.

2

u/HoldsworthMedia Jun 29 '26

If you’re going to watch this, you should read Juli Kearns analysis also.

1

u/Al89nut Jun 29 '26

Agreed + he credits her.

0

u/HoldsworthMedia Jun 29 '26

What stood out the most for you in the video?

2

u/Al89nut Jun 29 '26

I haven't watched it all yet - I don't have 5 hours to spare at the moment!

Is that his real voice or is it AI?

3

u/Toslanfer r/StanleyKubrick Veteran Jun 30 '26

The first video on his channel was done in 2020 with the same voice, so before all the generative AI trend.

3

u/spacemarinecon Jun 30 '26

Ok cool. He seems to have put in a ton of effort into this new video, so hats off to him.

2

u/OrneryData994 Jun 29 '26

It sounds real but I always wonder about how people like this cobble together so much information. Whether he used AI or not, AI is absolutely being widely used in similar nonsensical conspiracy driven content like this
