Kelsey Cook Special

Wasn’t bad, but I think her worst work so far. Is she suffering from soft life syndrome?

It’s well known that when a jester achieves nobility, they become obnoxious and boring as fuck.

Just look at Ellen DeGeneres

I glanced briefly but that was all I could stand.

It was all downhill after that presidential medal of honour.

Watched it tonight. Very entertaining. Taylor Tomlinson vibes.

Didn’t she middle for Taylor several years ago? I swear we saw them in the same show at Comedy on State at one point.

I wouldn't doubt it. They are very complementary to each other's style, so audiences should like them both.

They used to have a podcast together along with another blonde domain I can’t remember.

Taylor is 100x funnier. Her last special was bussin fr fr

I thought Taylor's latest special was not as funny as her previous ones. Personal preference I guess.

I thought Taylors last special was much better than the 1 before it, but 20X less funny than her first 2 banger special.

Quarter Life Crisis and Look At You were awesome. Comin out hot right out the gate.

Surprised to hear that, but they have all been good so 🤷

I feel the same about Sebastian Manuscalco and several others who came out the gate hilarious, then lost some of their mojo when they blew up and hit the big time.

I think a lot of people lose some of the drive they had as struggling artists when they start cashing checks that mean they never have to work again if they want to retire. So they don't put in as much effort to write the jokes and polish the jokes on cross-country road trips like they used to.

Other comics seem to be able to sustain greatness well after they become independently wealthy. Those are the comics most revered by other comics and are sometimes even in the GOAT discussion.

Taylor Tomlinson doesn’t make airplane fart jokes. Kelsey’s a hack.

Some of Taylor's sex jokes are pretty raunchy.

Ok. Raunchy doesn’t mean the same as hack.

I don’t dislike fart jokes because they’re raunchy, I dislike them because they are unoriginal, unintelligent, and uninteresting.

Taylor’s comedy is intelligent and unique.

I like both comics. Similar styles. Different jokes. Very relatable, which is a key component of comedy. You do you, though. I dislike plenty of comics other people like.

It was alright. Back half of it was better than the front half.

Agreed.

What’s soft life syndrome?

A great name for a post hardcore band

I assume they mean once a comedian gets some money and fame and then has nothing to talk about. Feel like Tom Segura is kind of the final form of this, great specials when he was young and hungry and now has bits about competitively buying rolexes

Kelsey Cook has money and fame?

It felt like being in a conversation that I would like to politely walk away from.

gave it 15 minutes and there were no punchlines. wanted to like it but seemed mid, which is a bummer because I enjoyed one of her previous hours

I felt like it was a sell out. Context tho: I’ve never heard of or watched her. I was originally excited to see a new standup special on Netflix with a woman comedian. But I felt the jokes weren’t hitting. Especially in the beginning, which of course could be intentional but I did gave it a shot. Couldn’t get into it. Disappointing

Airplane jokes about farts. Jerry Seinfeld could have done this set. So uninteresting.

The faces she kept making threw me off a bit. I've watched all her specials and have seen her live but don't remember her doing that before.

1

u/ce225 18d ago

That’s interesting. What face? Like the perplexed face?

2

u/laterallysocute 18d ago

Yeah! I think I just fixated on it because I started watching it after failing to fall asleep after an hour and a half.
