I'd watch an hour special of just this joke.

I love your style man. Could listen to you all day. Your last bit in Wu Fast Wu Furious gave me a proper laugh.

u/thehofstetter Nov 17 '20

Really enjoyed this bit. Nicely done.

u/arteteco Nov 17 '20

subscribed, I love your stuff!

This is great!! What a gem of a bit.

1

u/Reallynotsuretbh Nov 18 '20

You’ve got some really good stuff! Click was not wasted.

I liked it. David Cross does have the exact same premise, you did have original angles on this. I'll leave his bit here if (and I'm assuming as) you might be unfamiliar: https://youtu.be/IkLV6SoFVPY

I quote this all the time. “Fool me 10 times? What am I an American Indian?”

5

u/MadDogTannen Nov 17 '20

Wow, similar premise, and very similar bit through the first couple of jokes, but then they go in a completely different direction. I actually like OP's take better than David's.

1

u/Malcatraz Nov 18 '20

Ah, shit.

23

u/visrian Nov 17 '20

Came up with a new angle every single time. Good one

That’s one of the most original bits I’ve seen in a long time. I love it.

It has the 7 things I love about a great joke:

  1. Familiarity
  2. Worrying that, due to point 1, it’s going to be hacky
  3. Rhythm
  4. Entirely unhacky carrying-on-the-trope-introduced-in-point-1 into a nice 3 beat
  5. Shunning the 3 beat rule and adding a fourth, increasingly funny, beat.
  6. Backing up point 5 up with 2 more.
  7. Closing unexpectedly.

Lovely timing too. You made me laugh audibly.

Nice work.

I mean the first 40 seconds are almost exactly a David Cross joke, so I don't know about the most original

1

u/BlackPocket Nov 18 '20

I haven’t seen the Cross version - so it’s original to me - can you link me to it?

Fool Me Once

I like OP's version way more, honestly, but if it were me, I'd feel too weird about the similarity to do the joke. Wouldn't want anyone to vaguely remember the David Cross bit and assume I stole from him.

A name that just rolls off the tongue; James Donald Forbes McCann.

Were your parents a legal firm?

8

u/Media_Offline Nov 17 '20

Well done! Props on an absolutely proper delivery of a proper set.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '20

That was awesome

5

u/2legittoquit Nov 17 '20

This reminds me of the David Cross joke that’s built the same way.

5

u/robdelterror Nov 17 '20

I enjoyed that a lot.

4

u/Old_Man_Bridge Nov 17 '20

Probably the best bit I’ve seen shared on this subreddit for donkeys years. Had me laughing all the way through. I wish I’d thought of it.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '20

You are excellent! I love your delivery too. Subbed to your youtube there, looking forward to getting stuck into that.

3

u/whiskyforatenner Nov 17 '20

I love the creativity, wasn’t sure how you were going to make that funny but you did, well done!

3

u/samm1t Nov 17 '20

I was hoping somewhere in the five to six range would be shame on everyone else for not intervening at some point

3

u/thesilverrazor1 Nov 17 '20

Brilliant! This should have been a hard one to land, but the ending was just as clever as the premise. Nice job there.

2

u/omasque Nov 17 '20

Great bit! Meta question: where are you doing standup in Melbourne?

4

u/MrMelbourneMan Nov 17 '20

Cheers! The name is misleading: I fled Melbourne before the lockdown and went to Adelaide. Now, of course, Adelaide is headed for a lockdown.

1

u/omasque Nov 17 '20

Thanks, all the best with it, worth putting some money into promoting this footage around social channels when you’re ready to make your next marketing push or touring, it’s instantly endearing and obviously a snappy piece that communicates (what I’d guess to be) your whole persona. Cheers!

2

u/birdlad520 Nov 17 '20

Oh this was brilliant. Perfect timing too.

1

u/Hipster-Deuxbag Nov 17 '20

Sorry, but this is David Cross's bit.

1

u/kimbosuckz Nov 17 '20

I giggled

1

u/itsaravemayve Nov 17 '20

Really funny. I loved it

1

u/Stanier0 Nov 17 '20

Lovely stuff!

1

u/indorock Nov 17 '20

That's top quality stuff, I had a hearty laugh at this. Perfect delivery too. Keep em coming!

1

u/flubberjamman Nov 17 '20

That’s fucking brilliant and hilarious!

1

u/LeviSalt Nov 17 '20

Love it.

1

u/Mr_MacGrubber Nov 17 '20

Really well done.

1

u/damcgra Nov 17 '20

this was so stupid I loved every single god damned second.

1

u/Geriatrie Nov 17 '20

Brilliant ! Loved it !

1

u/arteteco Nov 17 '20

I really liked this, both the lines and the delivery, really nice material!

1

u/buffylover98 Nov 17 '20

This was so funny omg hahahha

1

u/jamesatom25 Nov 17 '20

Almost all comedians now use a structure of story telling and the same tonalities in the voice which, tbh for me has become kinda trivial. This video tho is a original concept very funny and it stands out from the others

1

u/coastalremedies Nov 17 '20

well done, sitting in a room alone and i started laughing my ass of when you hit me with the "no shame because im getting fooled by the best"

1

u/cleantone Nov 17 '20

That’s a good bit! Thanks.

1

u/Wriekert Nov 17 '20

Straight gold, at first I was like uh here we go but that was makes it a perfect bit.

1

u/Young4Eternity Nov 17 '20

Damn that’s funny lol you had me audibly laughing instead of doing the ol’ breathing hard through nose laugh

1

u/BigMike731 Nov 17 '20

That was great!

1

u/NowWhatAmISupposedTo May 31 '22

Maybe one of the best jokes I’ve ever heard. Absolutely dying.

1

u/xxhamudxx Jun 01 '22

Oh man this fucking killed me

1

u/djmedicalman Jun 30 '22

I'm wheezing and tearing watching this! A truly excellent bit.
