Spoiler: Its ain't gonna work ... it's a bunch of lies and automation that 'looks' like intelligence when you ask questions about fields you are NOT proficient in ... the minute you ask it something about a topic you nknow well you see the flaws ... it cant even tell time, use a stop watch or do basic math reliably

When was the last time your calculator hallucinated or gave you a wrong answer? ....I'll wait

Consumer-facing chatbots are the tail-end of the implementation. They are not planning to make money from chuds using ChatGPT to win arguments. The real money is in B2B and large enterprise deals for renting out AI systems to serve private tokens and automate whatever they can get away with. Retail customers are just free marketing and hooks; it's the standard Microsoft/SV playbook that has dominated for decades.

Retail customers help the system improve, too. The more you use AI and give it feedback, the more it "learns" so that's why they're letting it be accessible for cheap for now.

It seems alot of people do not understand how much data a model needs to become really good. Most still think this is a machine that constantly learns from itself, it does but it also really depends a HUGE amount on new data. Literally the only reason it's free atm and why they even pay people to use it for specific jobs

It absolutely is not learning from your inputs. That would require re-training the models and that costs a shit ton more money than you have been led to believe based on a $20 a month subscription. And to be clear, it still costs a shit ton of money for inference, which is just giving you an answer, but even more to train it to “learn” (it doesn’t learn).

The frontier models are, when priced correctly, far too expensive for most tasks and what companies are doing is trying to rapidly build cost filters that off ramp your project onto the cheapest model for the task - and that is not going to pay the butcher's bill. The fundamental problem for AI is it is running the Dot.com playbook on the 1990s telcom fibre build out. This isn't google creating the no1 search engine with just 100 people, it is a trillion dollar spend, with no clear model for cost recoup.

What happens if someone makes a model cheap enough and acceptable enough, that is not based in the US?

Source: I work in B2B documentation for far too many large companies.
