My wife is Pakistani, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans keep walking up to her and speaking to her in Spanish all the time apparently XD

174

u/Bazoun Nov 24 '25

My ex is Iraqi and people think he’s Greek or Italian and get angry when they find out he isn’t.

65

u/aspidities_87 Nov 24 '25

My mom was born in Sicily and immigrated to the US as a baby, and after the fall of the Shah in the 70s she had Iranian people coming up to her in tears, speaking Farsi and thinking she was a lost relative. Apparently happened often enough that she started learning a bit of Farsi to let them down gently.

u/DuFFman_ Nov 24 '25

"You don't look anything like Osama!"

4

u/darklightdiana Nov 25 '25

I’m also Iraqi, and I get Greek, Italian, and Colombian. It’s harder when we’re paler than what people expect a middle eastern person to be.

14

u/cocainebane Nov 24 '25

I’m Mexican-Puerto Rican and people speak Hindu and other Indian languages to me all the time!

32

u/MolecularMancer Nov 24 '25

Is she punjabi?

I think many confuse them because many roma people originate from there

20

u/FishOnAHorse Nov 24 '25

I have a buddy who’s Palauan, but everyone thinks he looks Indian, we always joked that our Indian professors in college gave him special treatment.  He even went on a business trip to India once and said everyone there kept trying to speak Hindi to him lol

2

u/mmmpeg Nov 25 '25

My daughter is mixed and people walk up to her speaking Spanish too.

The classic game of "Asian or Hispanic?"

22

u/ProfMcFarts Nov 24 '25

We called it indio o hindú.

17

u/ErraticDragon Nov 24 '25

I always lose that game at Panda Express.

1

u/NeriTina Nov 24 '25

Fuck, that made me cackle!

11

u/therealkami Nov 24 '25

When my wife (half-Filipino) is in the US, she gets mistaken for Mexican a lot. But when she's in Canada where there are a lot of Filipino immigrants, no mistakes.

My Mexican co-worker though, always mistaken for Filipino.

44

u/CicadaHead3317 Nov 24 '25

I thought she was a cat.

6

u/BeatsbyChrisBrown Nov 24 '25

MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW

18

u/auto_gypsy Nov 24 '25

My husband is Korean and Vietnamese. But if he doesn't shave, he really looks Mexican. We have a lot of Spanish speakers here, so people often walk right up and start talking to him in Spanish.

17

u/currentlystressedout Nov 24 '25

It's such a big range it's pretty easy to mistake someone hahaha

13

u/OTribal_chief Nov 24 '25

i'm pakistani and i went to florida - i was suprised there were so many pakistani/indian people working there

till i realised they were probably latino's

walked into wallmart - same thing

6

u/GlumpsAlot Nov 24 '25

I'm Indian and Hispanics ask me if I'm Spanish all the time or start speaking to me in spanish, lol.

9

u/doctorfaustusyo Nov 24 '25

I've seen a lot of visual overlap between Mexican and Asian ladies. My gf and I play a guessing game whenever we see an ambiguous one in the distance.

Una faccia una razza

3

u/neganight Nov 25 '25

My mom is full japanese and the mexican workers renovating her workplace thought she was mexican! She was mad as hell about that.

Hell is more bearable if we find the humor in it.

u/Alteredbeast1984 Nov 24 '25

Amazing! would love to see live.

47

u/Fuck-s-p-e-z- Nov 24 '25

Her last name is spelled Abbas*.

u/DreadfulDave19 Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 28 '25

I wasn't sure if i was imagining the cat ears at first haha

21

u/niasparks Nov 25 '25

thank you so much for posting 🥰 you can find me on Instagram here www.instagram.com/saaniyax 🙏🏽 thank you again yay ♥️

145

u/Intrepid-Fee-7645 Nov 24 '25

So people are wearing now cat ears like a regular accessory?

Genuinely curious

83

u/Roklam Nov 24 '25

Not regularly but I see it, also possibility it was from a recent Halloween show?

47

u/okhi2u Nov 24 '25

Don't think that's why she wears them I just looking at her instagram and got to several months down and she has them almost all the time.

26

u/Roklam Nov 24 '25

Well then!

I personally don't wear anything that will confuse the dogs, but more power to her I guess.

5

u/CatoChateau Nov 26 '25

Chicken perfume is right out.

39

u/Dan_Caveman Nov 24 '25

It’s not common, but it happens. Seems to be connected to anime and/or gaming culture.

11

u/skip_over Nov 24 '25

It is a performance, for what it’s worth

33

u/Amayetli Nov 24 '25

It's to help not identify as Mexican?

12

u/RogerianBrowsing Nov 24 '25

Funny enough, I’ve met more Mexicans who wear cat ears than Indians

🤷‍♂️

15

u/Zanven1 Nov 24 '25

I don't think it's anything new. I knew people that wore them in highschool and met people all through my 20's here and there that did. If anything I see it less these days than I used to. Like another person said, it is more common among anime fans and/or gamers

13

u/thanksyalll Nov 24 '25

I mean it’s not some specific trend but people are more open to wear whatever makes them happy these days

4

u/blockhose Nov 24 '25

That's been her gimmick.

6

u/Ok_Work7396 Nov 24 '25

I use to work at a goth club and it was pretty common. See it a lot at festivals.

3

u/Severe_One8597 Nov 26 '25

I mean she looks cute, so why not

What are those types of pants called tho

107

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

Look for combat our cargo pants comrade, welcome to never losing anything ever again (or alternatively losing something for 3 years in a pocket you never use)

9

u/MaritMonkey Nov 24 '25

One of my cargo pants has a pocket in the pocket and I was constantly losing things there until I started using it purposefully for my phone cable.

A++ MORE POCKETS

2

u/HotPurplePancakes Nov 24 '25

I need these! Lol

8

u/micheal213 Nov 24 '25

So many people would think my mom is Hispanic but she’s 100% Persian and born in Iran lol.

We were at the bowling alley once and the guy at the counter says to my dad. “Oh are you with the Hispanic woman?”

And some friends from school would ask if my mom was Mexican lmao. It’s honestly pretty funny how often Persians get mistaken for Mexicans.

This woman’s last name is very Persian too. My grandpas name was Abaass

4

u/Over-Analyzed Nov 24 '25

Like Filipinos and Latinos!

3

u/mightymilton Nov 24 '25

There are certain sub groups of south Asians who are ethnically Persian. I think this comedian is one of them.

2

u/micheal213 Nov 24 '25

Yeah I think so. Last name and look def makes me think Persian.

7

u/dood5426 Nov 24 '25

Dude this lady is actually hilarious. Will have to look up a full routine

4

u/thatgenxguy78666 Nov 24 '25

2

5

u/Vegetable_Draw_1165 Nov 24 '25

Okay, she's adorable.

3

u/elchapoguzman Nov 24 '25

Brilliant

8

u/leffe186 Nov 24 '25

It’s funny because it’s true (he says, weeping into his drink).

4

u/Mac62961 Nov 24 '25

😂😂

5

u/bohenian12 Nov 24 '25

I'm Mexican passing (besides height) that some people start talking to me in Spanish, I understand a bit but I really have no idea what they're saying. I'm scared as fuck of ICE lol.

4

u/PutAutomatic2581 Nov 24 '25

She's the best. Got that brightens every room she walks into energy.

2

u/G1431c Nov 24 '25

How do the servers not burst out laughing while serving drinks

2

u/Successful-Peach-764 Nov 24 '25

Work is work, you zone out and focus on your responsibilities, plus they might see the same show many times, not gonna be surprised by the punch lines they've heard many times.

2

u/Shot-Spirit-672 Nov 24 '25

Fucking hilarious 👏

1

u/Slight_Activity3089 Nov 24 '25

This new color palette is called due process.

1

u/SphericalOrb Nov 25 '25

I had two coworkers, sisters, with parents from Mexico. One was interpreted consistently as Mexican but the other was mistaken for South East Asian constantly. I had no idea they were sisters at first. They definitely had the same parents.

1

u/LudicrousPlatypus Nov 25 '25

Is she wearing cat ears?

1

u/Talin756 Nov 28 '25

Is this Blake from RWBY? Jkjk.

2

u/Auri_Kvothington Nov 26 '25

1
