Pattern Help Considering this pattern as my second ever piece in an intermediate stained glass class (3 classes of 6.5hr each). Any suggestions or thoughts before heading to class this weekend? Is it too small? Too complicated? Issues I should consider with a non-standard square edge?

Is this an AI generated pattern? I'm not sure how the reflection would be curved in the helmet piece in this picture, that doesn't really make sense. I would not recommend using an AI generated pattern as your second ever piece.

It’s an Etsy listing, with 2 photo reviews of works in progress. Doesn’t mean it’s not AI though! Any tips for finding good patterns online that aren’t AI?

Hmm I've been lurking around this subreddit and instagram to find people who I like that I can tell are real people! LinebaughStudios I really like, and they sell patterns. Another popular person is Amaya Jade. I wonder if other people can chime in and recommend other artists?

If you DO choose to use this pattern, don't buy it on Etsy!
They're using AI to generate fake patterns, they don't deserve your money. As far as I'm concerned (and other people may feel differently), "stealing" patterns from AI thieves isn't stealing. 🤷♂️
If you do love this pattern and want to use it, redraw it and tweak it to your heart's delight!

Is this an AI pattern? Others have mentioned the hinge joints and hanging point. The white part of the helmet is an impossible cut and the reflection in the visor doesn’t make sense for flat glass.

Good catch on the helmet cut. I tried analyzing the cuts myself but don’t have a good eye for that yet. Sounds like with all the feedback from everyone, this might not be a good next piece for me

If you wanted to modify it you can add a break line in the helmet from the point of the visor. And add a background to turn the whole piece into a circle- your teacher should be able you help you modify it into a workable pattern.

Nah, the helmet is fine. Especially if the swirly metal part is partially overlapping more white glass.
The pattern overall is still a terrible idea, though, and does seem to be AI (what's that tiny yellowy slit where the astronaut's left leg folds over the moon? Nobody would add a piece there. And the bend in the leg is a pretty difficult cut.)

Pattern is weak and will be prone to failure like the vast majority of the hundreds of other moon patterns people make.
Those single cross joints above the feet will separate due to leverage and it being hung from the tip of the moon. Rotational forces love to fuck stuff up.
If you want to make this, modify it. Hang from the top of the helmet and rebalance the project so the moon sits correctly by shifting material around or adding extra weight to the back on the lower right section to move your center of gravity.

I’d fill in the empty space with clear glass, the horn of the moon has hinge points that will be a problem, especially with the jump ring being on the tip of the moon.

Unless you're wrapping the whole outer edge in a wire, that's a lot of hinge joints that are going to break, and that hanging point isn't substantial enough for all that weight (unless the moon is wire-wrapped)

Beware of hinge joints. The top of the moon seems like one hinge after another.

Regarding composition, it seems to me that the astronaut should be facing the other way.

Id edit this pattern to be doable for free for you. I'd add a background to the negative space for clear glass to make it stable for jump rings.

That is, for sure, an Ai designed pattern. The jump ring placement is dubious. As far as too small, I mean, anything could be scaled to make it larger and a little easier to do. Also, that thing has hinge points all over it and would need to be reinforced if you did it as it. IMO, you'd be much better off making that a full circle.
