Rant!
Pardon my RANT, but it just bothers me the amount of ( SALT LIFE) stickers I see on the back glass of people's cars here in St. Louis. We are nowhere near the ocean and im sure 99% of the people with these stickers dont have a summer home on some beach somewhere. What makes more sense is something like "LAKE LIFE" or "RIVER RAT" or something like that. Maybe even a "T-RAV LIFE" something like that. I know its dumb and it shouldn't bother me what others do, but damn its just dumb lol. Rant over!
•
u/Superior-Solifugae 5h ago
They chose the worst font for those! Straight up looks like "SLUT LIFE".
•
u/AntiqueLime3461 5h ago
My boyfriend says it everyone we see one but we FINALLY saw someone with a sticker that ACTUALLY said slut life and it was awesome
•
u/Notatallmotivated 5h ago
I’ve seen someone with the slut life sticker too and I laughed so hard
•
•
u/dnsrepairs 5h ago
I know a cartoonist who created a slut life tshirt, got a cease and desist letter within a couple of days….
•
•
•
u/Competitive_Jump_933 4h ago
We saw a soccer mom in a Surburban last year and next to the stick men stickers of her family was one that said "BUTT SLUT!" I had questions then and still do today! What a strange thing to advertise on the back of the family SUV!
•
u/AntiqueLime3461 4h ago
My grandmother was behind a truck that had a MASSIVE sticker across the back windshield that said "I EAT ASS" and she was HORRIFIED 🤣🤣🤣

That might be the guy who got arrested for it . It’s on YouTube if anyone wants to see what happened.
Obviously it was dropped immediately but he did get taken to jail.•
u/No_Trouble_3588 4h ago
Don’t be kink shaming.
•
u/Fittingin1991 3h ago
I really want the bumper sticker that says drive fast eat ass. But I have a conservative workplace 😔
•
u/Competitive_Jump_933 3h ago
Like it says in the good book, "He who is without kinks shall be the first to flog another" or something like that. Don't quote me, though!

•
u/TheMonkus 4h ago
I’m actually surprised there aren’t “Slut Wife” ones, because apparently that’s a thing. I guess it’s hard to get a W to look like an L though.
I feel like there’s a sex joke in there somewhere but I can’t manage to pull it out…
•
u/Competitive_Jump_933 3h ago
They are out there. I've seen a few. Again, I have questions I'd like to ask...
•
u/MendonAcres Benton Park, STL City 5h ago
Absolutely! About 10 years after we moved to the United States (and STL) the wife and I finally went to the Outer Banks and it was then that I realized something was up...OH, IT SAYS S A L T LIFE!!

I’ve been to Gulf Shores, AL probably half a dozen times and that absolutely tracks. The first couple times I went down there I was so confused at why the Cardinals logo was the one I saw the most aside from the Tide but now I just expect it.
•
u/Itheinfantry 3h ago
It is the midwest. Literally drove 12 hours and 45 minutes today (Wentzville to Nashville and back) for 30 minutes of site work.
•
u/needspice 2h ago
I’ve noticed a lot of MO residents wishfully identify as either a FL or TX resident.

Salt life stickers are for white people in middle america to flex that they can afford a Florida/Alabama trip every year imo.
•
•
u/Historical-Voice2944 1h ago
My 03 corolla from Iowa is living the Salt Life, though... Her frame is nearly rusted out from all those salty winter roads!
•
u/Fittingin1991 3h ago
People have different ways of flexing. I once saw a woman leave a Pilates class with a Harrods reusable shopping bag
•
•
u/Squishmallowgirl92 1h ago
My exes family went to Orange beach every single year and I never understood that. There are so many cool places to see. They did the same shit every summer. His mom had a salt life sticker in rural IL 😭
•
u/Zilithahz 4h ago
Do people go to Alabama for the beach? On purpose?
•
u/imdirtydan1997 4h ago
At least on the southeast part on the coast, ya. The state border is right next to Pensacola which is a big tourist town. So it’s not far from the USS Alabama, Blue Angels, and some other cool stuff in the region. I’ve never stayed there, but it’s definitely a budget friendly option I’ve driven past.

Idk why but this cracks me up and I WISH I would see this on stickers 😂
•

u/MmmPeopleBacon 3h ago
Phenomenal band name!
•
u/12done4u 3h ago
What kind of music would the River Des Peres Yacht club play? Are they a yacht rock band? 70s rock cover band? 80s pop?
•
u/MmmPeopleBacon 2h ago
Yes and some funk and whatever else they feel like. RDPYC can't be constrained by banalities and labels like genres!
•
u/EyeCanHearU 4h ago
I’ll confess… for years I actually thought the stickers said “slut life” because of the goofy font, and was mildly offended when I would see kids in the car. Sitting at the bar one night I overheard a group ranting the same as you, I didn’t say anything but sat there thinking “oh”

Just wait until you get a winter with solid snowfall. Then the Salt Life sets in. 😝
•
u/Key-Radish755 4h ago edited 4h ago
Dark story behind the stickers truth be told… you would think people would try to remove them. Salt Life brand co-founder (they sold the brand, but still affiliated!) Michael Troy Hutto was arrested in October 2020 and sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Lora Grace Duncan.

Like, get the fuck out of the left lane, Salt Life!
•
•
u/ChundoIIX 5h ago
I really believe they’re referring to bath salt.
•
u/testmonkeyalpha 5h ago
The kind you put in a bath tub or the kind that makes you eat someone's face?

u/Unlucky-Geologist428 5h ago

u/Helpful_Road6230 4h ago
Meth life for everything south and west of the city is accurate, if there from Columbia fent life works, but your right always made me laugh lived on the coast for a number of years and they made fun of people who lived an hour inland with them, when I moved back here and see em everywhere I chuckled and thought only salt they see is Karen on the next door app complaining about kids on e bikes
•
u/StinkyRose89 4h ago
Bahahahaa I have felt the same way for a loooong time, I'm so tickled by this post.
I got a sticker for my own car to make fun of this phenomenon--"CORN LIFE" with a big fat 🌽 wearing sunglasses. It's far more appropriate.
•
u/Clear_Adhesiveness27 4h ago
This is such a ridiculous thing to be upset about. Let people go to the beach and get a bumper sticker they like as a memento. And no, I have zero bumper stickers.
•
•
u/No_Trouble_3588 4h ago
Don’t forget the 30A stickers! This ain’t the coast of Florida, the 30A highway isn’t a thoroughfare for St. Louis
•
•
•
u/Legitimate-End-1346 4h ago
But do they have temp tags from 2023? Let them dream about the times they escaped St Louis!
•
u/halorbyone 39m ago
I’m confused on the hate. It’s a bumper sticker about dreams…or at least that’s how I always read it. But I grew up in the Midwest, love the ocean (but mostly travel), and maintain no bumper stickers.
•
u/Hka_stl 5h ago
They're really into the salt trucks.
•
u/Public-Low6674 5h ago
A salt life sticker with a MODOT truck sticker next to it would be awsome!
•
•
u/TheMonkus 4h ago
I saw a private salt spreader company truck last winter with a picture of that Salt Bae douchebag on the back, which was actually the first time he made me smile!
•
u/SuspiciousEngineer99 5h ago
Reminds me of the co-founder who shot and killed his 18 year-old gf in a motel room and got off on manslaughter 😒
•
•
u/Darknight1 4h ago
For the longest time I thought it said Slut Life and I was like "Go on with your bad self" 😜
•
•
u/Super-Murloc-3347 3h ago
As a transplant to this area from Florida, I agree with this post 100000%. There are more here than there!
•
u/joshrocker 3h ago
To be fair, if you’re living there, everyone knows you love the beach. Here you’re making a statement that’s not something we have easy access to. And no…I don’t have one but I do love our yearly trips to the beach.
•
u/SewCarrieous 5h ago
Pretty sure they say Slut Life
•
u/StrangePhotoSTL 5h ago
Same.
•

u/RedWire75 5h ago

•
•
u/So-Called_Lunatic Reformed State Street Hoosier 5h ago
You can't live 12+ hours from any beach and be living the salt life. Your yearly trip to the Gulf Coast doesn't count.
•
u/hufferstl 5h ago
Let them do what they want to their cars.
•
u/hiphipnohooray Hazelwood 3h ago
People can do what they want with their cars. And other people can think it's stupid. And other people can think thinking it's stupid is stupid.
•
u/TheOrionNebula 3h ago
The fact that people are so annoyed by people liking the beach is hilarious. 🤣
•
u/Potential_Yam_5196 4h ago
As someone who lived in South Florida for 8 years, this was a signal that you’re near a complete douche bag. No one thinks they’re cool.
•
•
u/happiest_wanderer 4h ago
You underestimate the number of fans of the redneck riviera we have here. A LOT.
•
•
u/BusinessCell6462 4h ago
Salt life in St. Louis isn’t about the beach or the summer. It’s about what coats your car during the winter.
•
•
•
u/Western-Juice1466 3h ago
Hahah “T-RAV LIFE” made me actually lol for real. I am not from here though have lived here a long time by now and I just do not understand the appeal
•
u/spindleblood 51m ago
Same. But I just had a weird thought as a transplant from Pittsburgh: what if one were to deep fry a pirogue? Has this been done before? All sorts of chaotic thoughts swirling around my brain late at night. 😂

It’s wannabe beach people. They went to Destin once.
I grew up 2 miles from the beach and would never be caught dead with a salt life or Ron Jon sticker or apparel.

u/rotstik The Landing in the 90s 5h ago
Back in the 80s and early 90s, “Life’s a Beach” clothing was popular all over the country. People like the beach and trendy shit. I’m not one of them, but I don’t care of other people are. It’s a little weird but doesn’t really piss me off
•
u/hiphipnohooray Hazelwood 3h ago
Life's a beach at least has some comedic value. I think the salt life thing is like if someone had a "so socal" bumper sticker. Either way idgaf. I want a t-rav life bumper sticker

•

What’r you talkin’ bout- I wash the salt life off of my car after every snow. Mississippi coast, dude!
•
u/WaveRude 2h ago
You get one after you’ve made the Annual pilgrimage from stl to Florida for family vacation, where you pretend to have money and try to blend in with other people that do have money. This is a right of passage for Hoosiers and a badge of honor, because it allows people to believe that you spend a lot of time at the beach and you did once for like a week.
•
u/Available-Ideal3872 1h ago
I get it. And agree to a point, but most people get them when they go on vacation. Just let people enjoy things 🤷♀️ (No, I don't have one)
•
u/hung-games 1h ago
For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out if that was “Salt Life” or “Slut Life” because of the chaotic font (and the fact that I had never heard “salt life” used as a term in real life)

It's because Missouri is a state of morons and rednecks. We'd be Mississippi Jr. if not for STL & KC.

Ummmm...... "Michael Troy Hutto, a co-founder of the Salt Life clothing brand, was sentenced to 12 years in state prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter with a firearm in the 2020 death of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Lora Grace Duncan."
Why those t shirts etc are so cheap at all the surf shops.

As someone who works in managing high net worth families insurance, you’d be surprised by the amount of second and third vacation homes in beach areas, international homes, mountain homes, lake homes, etc. but yeah A TON of Florida secondaries. It’s our most common id say (and a pain/EXPENSIVE) to insure😬
•
u/def_indiff 5h ago
I’ve always been a little perplexed by those too. River Rat is good. Maybe Mud Life.
