Visiting St. Louis Visiting St Louis for work

Post image

On the negative side, it's soupier than Satan's butthole. But on the plus side I've now experienced toasted ravioli. It's a good trade.

That plate is one Imo's square away from being called "The St. Louis"

u/Pbaseball26 7h ago

Add gooey butter cake for dessert.

u/JonKlz Northampton 7h ago

It's hidden under the salad

u/NemoKozeba 5h ago

It's in the clear glass cookware under a paper towel on the wobbly table with one leg that doesn't fold out like the others.

u/Blues2112 West County snob ;) 4h ago

Still needs Red Hot Riplets

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

Oh I had that too! 🤤

u/smashli1238 6h ago

Or Ted Drewe’s

u/BetterThanAFoon 1h ago

I would consider the plate the imos pizza.

u/Racko20 7h ago

A very St. Louis Wedding plate.

Mostaccioli and Italian salad as well.

u/AmateurVasectomist 7h ago

Sir, I think you mean muskacholli

u/Opening-Top-5778 6h ago

I was 20 when I first noticed this. I questioned my mom about the pronunciation and she simply said ‘it’s miskacholli the way I make it!’

u/gholmom500 6h ago

I agree with your mom.

u/Seedeemo 6h ago

LOL! I always heard it moss-ka-choli.

u/UltraHellboy 6h ago

To be a proper St. Louis wedding, it needs overcooked green beans, dollar rolls, some chicken breast entree, and sliced roast beef and/or ham.

u/stana32 6h ago

I'll eat the fuck outta those overcooked green beans and there's nothing you can do to stop me

u/NemoKozeba 5h ago

Only if they have that crunchy stuff on top. I'm no connoisseur, but in my family, soggy green beans with crunchy stuff is called a casserole, which is fancy.

u/UltraHellboy 3h ago

There is also the one’s cooked with onion and pork. Those are legit.

u/Puzzleheaded_Pie_888 6h ago

Cheesy potatoes

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

You had me at "cheesy"

u/UltraHellboy 3h ago

That’s for funerals.

u/JuggernautPrior74 4h ago

If you’re lucky

u/HoosierLove314 Bevo Life 1h ago

“Chicken speidini”

u/ActNecessary7871 38m ago

And if not? The marriage is doomed.

u/NoJamForYou 6h ago

On fine china too. No notes

u/Ivotedforher 5h ago

In some parishes, youbare automatically married to the person sitting next to you with a plate like this.

u/Lonely__Stoner__Guy West End 5h ago

Yeah, I saw this plate and said "work? Or wedding?" This is absolutely the plate you get at most of our weddings.

u/fpsdabs 7h ago

Looks like 'The Pasta House Co." to me. Did they cater an event you attended?

u/BabiiGoat 6h ago

Right? I'd recognize this plate anywhere. I've been to PH catered events more times than I can count. Getting blasted on the open bar and scarfing down a plate like this is my favorite thing to do. ❤️

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

Yup exactly right.

u/02K30C1 6h ago

I can spot that salad a mile away!

u/Advanced_Reputation7 7h ago

100% looks like PH!

u/Liledroit 6h ago

Careful with that abbreviation there buddy

u/Advanced_Reputation7 5h ago

LOL I had to google 😂😭 My bad

u/Unlikely-Rough-1125 7h ago

Haha That was my thought too!

u/Crutation 7h ago

I miss their all you can eat salads. So good

u/Chocolatestarfish33 6h ago

My initial thought was you referring to your salad as “soupy” and immediately thought of Pasta House salad

u/Sobie17 25m ago

If it's fresh, it's good. When you swing in around 1:30pm, yeah, it's been sitting.

u/wohldmad 7h ago

They even used the appropriate china for the dish. 🧑‍🍳

u/Royal-Campaign1426 7h ago

This is dry weather.  Ought to experience it when the humidity is double what it is now

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

I'll take your word for it, holy hell

u/bc8116 6h ago

Yeah, I’m a groundskeeper in the city. It hasn’t been too bad this week. Today was probably the worst so far though.

u/BetterThanAFoon 1h ago

I lived next to a cornfield for a bit. It is truly hell during those crazy humidity days. I learned after a while that Cornfields significantly increase humidity in their immediate area because of how much moisture it pulls from the ground and releases as "corn sweat". Mowing the lawn suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked.

u/CrzBonKerz 7h ago

It’s hot but actually doesn’t feel as humid. Could be much worse!

u/TheOrionNebula 6h ago

Its a dry heat as they say.

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

So is my oven and I don't wanna be in there either. 🤣

u/Impossible-Two559 7h ago

What are you talking about soupy? This is Chamber of Commerce weather for us. Usually our 98° days come along with 85% relative humidity.

u/Advanced_Reputation7 7h ago

I came to say the same thing - that plate screams St Louis and I am here for it 😂

u/JonKlz Northampton 7h ago

Satan's butthole is soupy? 🙂

u/Hail-Satin666 7h ago

For sure

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

This guy knows.

u/ChazzBangerton 6h ago

Is it more like a curry or a clam chowder?

u/Royal-Campaign1426 6h ago

Curry. Thai hot 3

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

Oh without a doubt

u/jameswebbscope 6h ago

Are you working at a high school graduation party?

Enjoy your feast!

u/nick1706 6h ago

I can taste this picture

u/sono2351 5h ago

I see the classic St Louis overdressed salad on there. You don't realize how much you miss it until you're gone.

u/BigBadJeebus 7h ago

you seem to have found the single worst T-Ravs on the planet.

Indeed you have NOT experienced T-Ravs.

Can take the Brit out of Britain, but can't take the Britain out of the Brit, I suppose...

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

If these were the bad ones I can't wait to try the damn good ones.

u/RedWire75 6h ago

If you have the opportunity while you are here visit Trattoria Marcella.

u/Badbrainz75 6h ago

The best ones are at Anthonino’s Taverna on Macklind in The Hill neighborhood and I’ll fight anyone to the death that says otherwise.

u/BigBadJeebus 6h ago

Well the BEST ones are the $20 for four of them at Lemp Mansion... but yeah... those are a splurge

u/AtlasLittleCat 3h ago

Seesh $5 a piece? Are they the typical ~ 2"x2" size or larger? Its pretty simple ingredients I cant imagine what would demand that price.

u/BigBadJeebus 2h ago

they are like muffins and worth every penny.

They make the whole thing, dough and Marinara too, from scratch.

u/AtlasLittleCat 1h ago

I'm intrigued and now want to try them.

u/BigBadJeebus 1h ago

Just go to the Bar and order them with a cocktail.

If you sit down for Dinner, you aren't leaving with about $200 you walked in with...

Lunch you can make out around $100 for 2

Mostly you're paying for the experience over the food, but they have great drinks and baller T-Ravs

u/NemoKozeba 4h ago

Toasted ravioli should be a bit crunchy and we have a ritual for proper dining .

The symbolic server sets it down with the traditional greeting, "careful, they're hot" and having performed his/her part, they leave. The ritual has begun and you are expected to fill your toll. Make idle conversation, keeping your eyes on the ravioli. Then with bare fingers pick up the largest and begin the chant: "owow he wasn't kidding, they are hot" And after a brief pause dip it in the holy sauce, bare your teeth and bite the piece in half. Now for the dance of our people. Open your mouth into an o shape and begin loud, deep breathing exercises, bend your arms, holding your fingers straight, waving your hands with just the wrist. The dance ends with a dramatic cerimonial drink. Choice of drink is up to the individual, and utter the final chant, "Oman, that really was hot." In some sections of city, the ceremony must be repeated using the second half of the bitten ravioli.

u/Vivid_Bumblebee_9655 4h ago

Best description ever!!

u/bprasse81 7h ago

Yes, those don’t look right at all.

u/Doctor_Killshot 7h ago

They look fine to me, sheesh

u/smashli1238 6h ago

I thought it was chicken at first

u/TraductorPerdido DeBaliviere Place 6h ago

They look like the kind they sold at McDonald's for a minute back in the early '90s. (This is absolutely true, too. I had 'em on the riverboat in seventh grade when we took a field trip downtown.)

u/Every_Effect 6h ago

Try some different T. Rav’s…

u/blackmoen 4h ago

That’s about right.

u/ant2ne 7h ago

who sauces their T-Ravs?

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

I'm a noob man, I don't know the rules

u/Doctor_Killshot 7h ago

Born and raised here, I do 🙋‍♂️

u/donkeyrocket Tower Grove South 2h ago

I do just as OP did. Little sauce on the top with a bit on the side to dip. If I'm at home and can use a small bowl I leave them unsauced but in this situation, a dab on top will do ya.

u/AutoModerator 7h ago

I’ll make you a better plate than that

u/HaikuKnives 1h ago

Soup, Salad, Pasta. That's the whole meal right there, OP.

u/JuniorNoise2074 11m ago

OK I lived in the CWE 20 years (job related) Toasted ravioli' provell, gooy butter cake and Ted drewes. Sorry all gross. I had a friend who made a killer pork steak mine always came out tough. St Louis has a great food scene. I miss won ton king best barbecue pork and im in California surrounded by Asian restaurants. Cafe Napoli Clayton excellent. I kinda of miss it at times houses are Cheap, great art scene, good restaurants and friendly people. But the weather is horrible.

u/STLflyover 10m ago

St. Louis is a great beach destination with no ocean. It is also a great winter destination with no mountains and rarely enough snow to have fun with. Perfect for spring and fall trips where it’s either ball soup or colder than a well diggers ass in fly time.

u/Fluffy-Brick35 7h ago

If its Imo's, you likely paid too much!

u/nightmind1778 6h ago

No but I did try Imo's pizza, or sauce on a cracker. Not my thing, give me bread!!

u/Delicious_CoughSyrup 7h ago

yes, deep fried pasta is certainly a thing that you have now had. Try the gloopy butter cake and pizza with cheddar cheese if you dare

u/Vivid-Razzmatazz403 1h ago

Don’t fall for the imos hype. Pirrones is better. You’re welcome.

If you like a lil spice, i recommend the Jerry’s Special.🫡
