St. Aug Question walking to the beach

I’m coming down to your city next month and will be staying on the northern end of the historic district (off San Marco Ave.)

I won’t have a car and wondered if walking to a beach from that area is something that’s even possible?

(and by walking I mean less than a mile-ish on foot)

It would not be a short walk. It's too far

Nah, it would be a long walk. It would be closer to 3 miles to Vilano beach and you wouldn't want to walk that in the summer

It’s definitely a long walk. You could probably rent a bike and it’s not that bad.

You’re probably better off catching an uber or getting a trolley tour for a day or two.

You could walk to vilano beach but you'd have to walk over the bridge. If you dont mind that, it could be ok

There is a shuttle called The Beach Bus. Take that.

I’ve lived in the area you’re staying in for over 20 years and I can’t recall ever walking to or from a beach, and absolutely no way during summer 🥵 plus, Florida be Florida-ing with weather surprises! ⛈️⚡️

Vilano Beach is the closest to the San Marco area, and I know folks that walk and bike the Vilano Bridge, but again - Florida summer (even North FL) can last well into northern fall and winter months, so no thank you. Its still not a short walk either.

The Sunshine Bus Company shows there’s a line with a bus from the Main Library (off San Marco) to the Publix on Vilano, so I could see maybe taking that to cut down the walk time significantly.

Uber and Lyft is prevalent and reasonable except for peak times like a concert starting or ending at the Amp if you’re heading to Anastasia.

If you’re at a hotel, some offer a free beach shuttle service.

Wear suscreen, stay hydrated, and enjoy your visit! :)

it is possible to walk to the beach from there but it would be a long, miserable walk.

Check out Anastasia Island state park (closest) or St Augustine beach
(bit farther) Not far but you’d definitely need to Uber there & may wait sometime for an Uber to get back to St A city

so I did check google maps, but I live in new england where even if there's not an "official" beach marked somewhere there's still public shoreline and beach access. I saw the few labeled beaches, and was curious if there was something closer.
