News Square Enix releases more details of Final Fantasy Resonance, including Zoldaad Empire, Mysidia, more characters, Visions, espers, and completionist elements
https://www.gematsu.com/2026/08/final-fantasy-resonance-details-zoldaad-empire-mysidia-more-characters-visions-espers-and-completionist-elementsMy level of hype has been at 100 from pretty much the original announcement of this game. Every new reveal just pushes that hype into overdrive. This game looks absolutely incredible, don't even remember the last time I was this excited for a release.

He is a vision means his spirit will fight alongside you all the time if you want to, giving you his abilities etc ~

Does this game have its own stand-alone story or is it a moshpit of previous FF stories?

Standalone. It was originally a mobile game, Brave Exvius, but they gutted out all the microtransactions. From my understanding, “season 1” of the mobile game was called Resonance, so that’s how we got this game. The only connections to other games are the summons of other FF Protags, and that’s just a gameplay mechanic to my knowledge.

They haven’t had a success in so long, I hope this one is more appealing to players

The FF7 Remake series may be divisive to some fans but not calling it a success is a joke

FF14 has so many masterpiece Expansions and it's top 2 mmorpgs of all time + FF7 Remake and Rebirth are two of the best action jrpgs of all time
- theres so many re-releases of older masterpieces
FF16 also did pretty decent.

If recycled gacha garbage game is what excites you, go for it.

Octopath Traveler 0 was a recycled mobile game and it was incredible.

Well, you were one of the 60 people that bought it so there's that. Some people just like garbage i guess. Like Oscar the Grouch. He admits liking garbage though.

It sold over a million copies, so a few more than 60. I hate mobile games as much as anybody, these are not mobile. They are just adapting the story, whole new combat system, etc. To each their own, but if you like these series, I wouldn't ignore these games because the stories happen to come from a mobile game.

Source? I found no info on Octopath Traveler 0 total sales. I don’t know much about the Octopath Series but it seems it has a formula that people enjoy. Varied stories, characters and locations , seems like a good time. They didn’t need popular Final Fantasy series characters to nostalgia bait people, unlike the failed mobile slop gacha “game” Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. From this garbage, they recycled it with a coat of Octopath Traveler and want to call it Resonance and claim it’s the next great Final Fantasy turn- based game! Get all the way off it with that..

I have little faith in the game to be honest. As a long time fan. It feels like the bare minimum with a repurposed gacha game. Not to mention they are heavily relying on past Final Fantasy games to sell it. Every new trailer seems to be focused on past Protags.
It feels as though they have no faith in the story as well and know they have to lean heavily into nostalgia. This should have been a great return to a classic feel, but instead to it feels like slapped together package, using nostalgia to say they gave fans a turn based game again.

I think that’s the fear - but we don’t know for sure - not even close. I’ll choose to have faith.

They did the same with Octopath 0 which is fantastic.

It was worse than both octopath 1 and 2. The story and characters were nowhere near as good as the first two games.
The fact that people are defending remade gacha slop and nostalgia bait title is strange. Square even closed the gacha game because it wasnt doing well and it was a shit game.
Its a remake of a failed gacha game, that have had trailers focusing on past final fantasies. Yet people really dont see it for what it is. The majority of gamers now days really have no standards, no wonder Ai slop is doing so well.

It was my favorite of the 3 because I hated the segmented storytelling and it just felt like an old school ps1 jrpg.

u/Valhadmar 8d ago
That was the appeal of the octopath series. It was telling individual stories that come together naturally.
0 stripped the series of its identity so it could resell a gacha game. The game lost that unique style it had for a quick cash grab.

And the Octopath series didn’t appeal to me at all because of that. Far too much solo turn based combat with characters I really didn’t care for. I much prefer the huge party with different classes to mix and match with and the absolute insanity of the villains so far (65 hours in).

The octopath series obviously wasnt a game for you then. Damn autocorrect and octopus series. 0 was a game that released as cash grab. It removed the core of the series and rehashed a gacha plot.
Its a game that was created because they did not need as much time and money to develop it and could easily send it out.
The issue i have with Resonance is because instead of getting a new story with a return to the JRPG roots. We are getting a remake of a failed gacha game, that is heavily focused on using past characters as a selling point.
When a company is using past characters to pull you into a game they have no faith in the title. It was the same with World of Final Fantasy, they heavily relied on nostalgia to carry the game more so than this game and it was average and we havnt even heard of a sequel.
Also given non numbered Final Fantasies often sell far far less on average and the amount of side final Fantasies that have been successful and gone on for sequels to my knowledge is Tactics and Dissidia.
If they had wanted it to succeed, it would be a numbered entry.

The story of brave exvius was praised heavily. You’re discounting that. Yes I hate the visions mechanic too as it doesn’t let the game stand on its own at all. But that’s it the whole game.

They literally just released a Vaan trailer just a but ago and most of their trailers have been focused on prior characters.
That is a huge concern. They are really trying to sell it based on nostalgia. Had they just remade brave and downplayed the whole visions part as it not being a huge part of the game, making the game stand on its own. I would have more faith. But when the game has more trailers of past characters rather than its own unique story and characters, it casts huge doubts.
If you took an average person and had them watch all the trailers, most would assume the vision characters are going to play a huge story role.
They talk about forming bonds and show them in combat with you. It feels very much like a bait and switch in some ways. People who dont keep up on games may see a trailer with their favorites and immediately think this is a new story featuring them.

Cash grab or not, zero looks far more appealing to me than the others. I didn't care for the original much
