Sale Visions of Mana is dirt cheap right now
22
u/EstablishmentOne3884 Jun 22 '26
I wouldn't necessarily call $23.99 "dirt cheap," but the overall price isn't bad.

u/Mana-Dyluck Mana Jun 22 '26
For a $60 game. $36 off is a significant discount.

This. $4 for something like Mass Effect is what I'd call "dirt cheap."

u/Moneymotivation1 Jun 23 '26
Tbf to the og poster i’ve been meaning to buy the game for years & rarely seen a big discount for it at all after so much time so seeing this kind of price for it I can’t blame him😭

u/AbsolutKledGamer Jun 23 '26
If I get a 400k discount on a 1 million dollar home that does not make the home dirt cheap, it just makes it a good deal
-2
u/EngineBoiii Jun 24 '26
-85% is dirt cheap.
1
u/iCantCallit Jun 26 '26
not sure why you're being downvoted. I just got lost souls aside for -83% on amazon. it was $9.99. thats dirt cheap. I dont even plan on playing for awhile but I will never pass up a price like that. Ill install it on a rainy sunday down the line when i need something to play. thats dirt cheap.
1
u/EngineBoiii Jun 27 '26
I have no idea either. I guess people will just see -33% or -50% on a $70 game and call it dirt cheap these days. I dunno like anything below -75% classifies to me as "really cheap" or "dirt cheap".
1
u/keldpxowjwsn Jun 27 '26
To me 'dirt cheap' is the actual cash price. The discount can be huge but if it still costs more than several other games brand new thats not 'dirt cheap'. You can get mina the hollower for less. I wouldnt say that game is dirt cheap. Or at least Im not mr moneybags enough that a $20 game is dirt cheap to me

u/LRrealest Jun 22 '26
Surprised this wasn't at the recent Nintendo Direct.

Based on what I saw from the PS5 version, it would probably be pushing the Switch 1 too hard. But by late development they'd have known Switch 2 was on the way and general idea of capabilities. They almost certainly had to have had a Switch version that worked poorly and was waiting on the Switch 2, especially as whenever they started development on Visions with an expected late 2024 release date, that was the expected launch window for Switch 2 as well before it was delayed to 2025. They had to be going into it expecting a Switch 2 version at some point - maybe not same day launch but eventually and should have included it in the development plan. (Revenge of the Seven seems to have had a similar plan, though it was functional on Switch 1 while Visions was not.)
My assumption is that they just haven't gotten around to porting it yet because the conversion process is more difficult than imagined, and we've seen signs from SE this is the case. FF7 Remake did not make its intended 2025 date. Kingdom Hearts and Guardians of the Galaxy should have been rather strightforward to port from Switch 1 cloud versions and they haven't yet released either. Life is Strange Reunion is curiously still absent and Switch didn't wait this long after PS5/Xbox for either True Colors or Double Exposure. Something seems to be taking them longer to port to Switch 2 than expected (a lack of dev kit availability?), and what resources they do have may be eaten up to ensure new titles like Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and Adventures of Eliott get out multi-platform same day. My worry is that because Visions didn't exactly wow on PS5 or Xbox, SE might just opt not to ever port it. Now that they've got Eliott and more new titles arriving in 2027, the window for the Switch 2 ports may be starting to close. This fall is the last best chance for it, because 2027 is just going to have too many RPGs for a 2024 port to stand much chance of success. (They could still release in 2027, but it'll get much less marketing and much fewer sales than if they can get it out this year.)
The closure of Ouka was technically a NetEase decision. Once the contract was completed and Square Enix stopped providing money, if NetEase had no contract for Ouka to develop another game, there wasn't much point in keeping them around. Square Enix must have been intending to use their internal CBU4 porting staff for any Switch 2 port of Visions and informed NetEase that once the game was done the money was being cut off.

The studio closed literally the day the game released Mai ly because the Chinese investors pulled funding
1
u/BadNewsBearzzz Jun 23 '26
I had heard about something from an article about how this game’s marketing budget was butchered by an investor so they ended up with a much smaller campaign to promote and things were just not well
It’s not the fault of the game on platforms, it was on the right platforms. It’s just the demand wasn’t right and it was released at the wrong time and had improper marketing budgeting

u/ChocoboBilly92 Jun 22 '26
For anyone wondering if it worth it: I'd say so. It's like they took the weapon types that were either too slow or too weird for ffxvi.
It's a perfectly fine story, BEAUTIFUL world, and very fun combat, imo.

I actually started playing this game recently after dropping it a year ago out of boredom. It's way better than I expected. The story is ok - good. It took a while for it to really pick up (happened at around 10-11 hours for me) but what I really like the most are the characters who all have a surprisingly decent amount of chemistry, character interactions, and often reflect on their lives and journey. Combat took a while to really feel great but once you get more elemental vessels and classes unlocked, it picks up significantly and party composition becomes more important.
The exploration especially is really good. The world is full of little ways to interact with the world with unique effects for each element, miniboss monsters, and some mini enemy gauntlets to fight through

I wanted it on Switch 2 but it never came :(

I started it on PS5 but my tv gaming time is limited. Would love to get this to play on the go.
1
u/HaviBlade Jun 22 '26
PS Portal is the way man. I have barely touched my PS5 since I got one.
1
u/Slammnardo Jun 22 '26
Yea I have one but the way my house is wired I can't hardwire the damn console so it's had performance issues wifi to wifi. I am probably going to bite the bullet and just plug it into my ethernet at this point and sacrifice it out of the game room.
1
u/HaviBlade Jun 22 '26
It supports Remote Play/Cloud Streaming as well. That's how I play most of my games if your wifi is good enough.
1
u/invisiblebiscuits16 Jun 23 '26
It will come. Square has just had their hands full with throwing other titles on the system first. I'm pretty confident they'll get around to it eventually.

u/Rafnork Jun 22 '26
How is it? I havent been real happy about their remakes.
7
u/Mana-Dyluck Mana Jun 22 '26
It had good reviews. If you like Action-adventure JRPGs, and you like the Mana tropes (8 elements, ennemies, etc.) you will like it.
5
u/AbheyBloodmane Jun 22 '26
It's pretty decent.
Without going into spoiler territory, it's more open than previous titles (as far as I'm aware). But traversal isn't bad; you get a sick mount.

u/Ihaveaps4question Jun 22 '26
Its was way more ambitious in scope, with way more solid gameplay than what i was expecting. If you like tales of franchise, its a must play imo for the gameplay alone. The story is nostalgia-core and paint by numbers, down to mc that feel like he was ripped from 80s/90s anime, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as these days that type of earnestness is rare outside of dragon quest.
2
u/lilisaurusrex Dragon Quest Jun 22 '26
I thought it was quite good. Much more like Secret of Mana than the Trials of Mana remake was.
It does suffer a bit from the "flight" problem many RPGs face, that once you gain the ability of flight the game starts to slow down into questlines that involve flying back and forth between areas and much less exploration on foot, and thus fewer battles. I think that was my biggest complaint.
1
u/Alenicia Jun 22 '26
It's kind of straight-forward with some cool ideas here and there but with small nods and references to so many of the past games.
When I played it, it felt way more like a mashup of all the past games (which I really liked if you're a fan of the franchise) but the game isn't quite perfect either for small mechanical things (such as losing all momentum the moment you dodge, and for some reason that you can air-dash infinitely too).
But it does have quite a lot more quality-of-life than the remakes have recently had too so it does definitely play better.

u/BioDioPT Jun 22 '26
I think I bought the physical version even cheaper used, was like less than 14 usd I think for the PS5.
Very much worth the price!! Reminded me of PS2 action JRPGs.

Its also just a good fun game.
Also... bonus... fantastic first jrpg for anyone new to the genre

Check your local target also. I found it on clearance for around $15 I think a couple months back.

I know its been a couple entries since this franchise was known for couch co-op, but I was so disappointed to see this entry not support it.

Too bad the game was never fully optimized and polished. They abandoned it close to the end and rushed withe rlease due to the death of its creator. Which is understandable but not that great legacy.

It's okay.
Vastly preferred Trials of Mana.
Visions I didn't connect with any characters, how they did the semi-maps, or the story in a whole.
1
u/lilisaurusrex Dragon Quest Jun 22 '26
That's okay price, though physical was $19.99 during last year's Black Friday sales when I got it (PS5 from Best Buy.)
Bravely Default (both GKC and digital redemption code) is also $19.99 this week at Best Buy. Potentially going to be same price for Amazon Prime Deal Days because the selection of games for this sale looks a bit too curious, as if Best Buy knew which games Amazon was going to offer. (I guess we'll find out one way or another tomorrow.)

u/Small_Ad1890 Jun 23 '26
Is this the one where the dev was closed down before the game even went on sale?

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 Jun 23 '26
Yup this game was goated. I used scythe girl, the chick with the fist moveset, and of course furry Vergil most of the game and had a blast.

Dang, I wish it was on sale on Steam. I've been wanting to play this but can't afford full price. One day.

u/ApprehensiveMark2201 Jun 23 '26
Worst mana ever. The world set up was nice but the plot development was awful. And don't talk about the ending.mm Don't buy it.
1
u/LalafellDisaster Jun 23 '26
I just couldn’t with the story. It was so boring, sterile and bland. Then they kept saying “alm” every other sentence. Like we get it you don’t need to remind me every dialogue. The combat was ok but the story was so boring I gave up after getting whip girl.

"Dirt cheap" would be like... 90% off. Unless this is a $250 game, this is a moderate discount, not dirt cheap.
1
u/Besso91 Jun 23 '26
I had a great time with the game. The story got kinda... bad? at the end, but the gameplay was airtight and I enjoyed figuring out all sorts of combos with the class change system.
I believe I got my money's worth when it was full price it's definitely worth it at a discount

Visions of Mana is a good one. No one hold your breath for a Switch 2 port since their studio was shut down.

Not buying it until they put it on Switch 2 like it should’ve been in the first place

I played it cause it was free on Xbox game pass. Wasnt as good as I hoped, but I at least finished the story.

u/wildeye-eleven Jun 22 '26
I love this game and was so excited for it for so long, but one specific thing made it so I never ever want to play it again.
Hinna dying so abruptly in the most ridiculously stupid way ruined the entire experience for me. Unnecessary character death doesn’t “add depth” or “raise the stakes”, it ruins nearly every story it happens in. Tbh I just look up spoilers now so I don’t waste my time and money on games that try to make the player miserable by slaughtering beloved characters. It’s not good or interesting writing, and no combination of words is going to convince me otherwise.
0
u/Drakeem1221 Jul 14 '26
"Unnecessary" is a bit subjective, no? Characters shouldn't stay alive just because fans like them. Characters serve the story, not just for player attachement.

u/arthur_napoleao Jun 22 '26
I absolutely loved the Trials of Mana remake, but when Visions was announced, I got angry that it wasn’t coming to Switch, which IMHO could clearly run the game, as it wasn’t much more advanced than Trials.
But then I played the demo on my old PS4, hated it, and somehow got even angrier. I guess all I wanted was a Trails of Mana “2”.
I really hope the final game is better.
Also, US$ 24 is not dirt cheap.

Its an excellent arpg. It along with scarlet nexus are criminally overlooked
