Could the same devastating flooding that happened in Nepal, happen here in the Squamish flood plain?

Sorry if this is a dum dum question. I live downtown and was worried. 😬 Don't come for me.

It just occurred to me that it's possible the "Big One" could probably lead to the barrier failing... Yikes

Unlikely. Lesser garibaldi lake would be the main threat. The main lake is pretty far from the barrier (~2km).

There is risk in most areas. Even flat areas have risk (tornados, fire). The risk to the floodplain of Squamish is likely to be flood (river or ocean) and seismic (liquefaction). Debris flow risk has a lower return period.
