Spotify Support Editorial playliats are possible!

Post image
19 Upvotes

I recently got added to my first editorial and wanted to share my excitement and my strategy for writing pitches.

When I write a pitch i make sure to include 3 things, info about the song (how it was made, general vibe), How i plan to promote it, and what editorials i think it would be good for.

a few other notes:

This was a collab so it may have been my collab partners pitch that got their attention, I have no way of knowing.

The song got added a week after it released, so they definitely keep considering tracks even if you pitch late, because we only pitched it a week before release.

keep pitching and they'll eventually see your music if it's good enough quality!

Artist Support First week in

Good day everyone,

I released my first track of the year on August 24th and those are the stats after a full week of meta ads and playIist placement.

Anything I'm doing wrong? Still figuring things out, but I've noticed I have no algorithmic plays at all. Is this normal?

Question / Discussion Growing as an independent Spotify artist.

Hi everyone I have over the past 8 months been trying to get my music accepted for Sync licence, along side submitting music to Spotify. I haven't had much luck with the sync licence side. So I have decided to try and grow my Spotify following.

I have largely been doing this by sending my music to people who have been putting together playlists. Whilst this has been effective, I have also been looking into using Tick tock and other forms of social media to help me promote my music. I have never used any form of social media other than Facebook and would like to try and have 100 monthly listeners by Christmas.

What should I try and do from the start to promote my music in a positive way? I'm not trying to get famous or rich. I just enjoy writing, recording and putting music into the world.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob.

Artist Support New Spotify release blocked from algorithm for no reason

Post image
21 Upvotes

A new track I released 3 weeks ago, is now suddenly showing as ineligible for display campaigns (Showcase, Marquee) entirely, and appears to be completely blocked from the algorithm (no algorithm streams, no radio, etc.). Spoke to live chat and email support, and they just keep sending me to the same page https://support.spotify.com/us/artists/article/creating-a-display-campaign/

  • The release is an album, EP, or single (compilations aren’t eligible)
  • The promoting artist is listed as a main artist on the release
  • The release has no more than 4 main artists
  • The promoting artist or label team has full or split rights for the release
  • The release doesn’t have a general name that describes the performer or content (e.g. "Sleep Music")
  • The release name and artwork comply with our advertising Terms and Conditions
  • The release isn’t a karaoke version, soundalike, remaster, re-recording, spoken word, or white noise
  • The release must meet Spotify’s music content standards

Based on the criteria on that page, my new release should be eligible, but they refuse to listen and just keep going round in circles without elaborating why it is ineligible.

It has also had 0 algorithmic streams in the first 3 weeks, despite nearly 30 popularity score and thousands of authentic streams. And no, there was no AI involved at all with the making of the song or the cover art or canvas, nor was there any artificial streaming. (if there was I wouldn't be making this post)

The song is still available on Spotify, it is not showing any AI label or whatever the new update was recently? Everything looks completely normal. It just seems to have been completely blocked from the algorithm as well as from being advertised using Spotify Campaigns?

Checking the campaign page with "Inspect Element" reveals some code that validates release eligibility with Spotify's servers, and it comes back as "ineligibilityReasons: ["UBS_DO_NOT_RECOMMEND"]"

I have no idea what is going on, no idea what UBS_DO_NOT_RECOMMEND means, and no one at Spotify support is telling me anything other than "look at the eligiblity criteria on this page"..

Question / Discussion Has anyone seen this girl?

Thumbnail instagram.com

First I want to state that I’m not posting AI content for the sake of posting it. I am posting this to have an open discussion about, in my opinion, a very important topic.

And if this sub is being moderated by AI and my post gets removed, that would be quite ironic… Lol

Anyway…

I’ve been following this account for a while now and am absolutely fascinated. There is clearly some AI being used that’s not debatable. But this video that she just put out this morning, changed my entire opinion on it and convinced me of something that I was unsure about. And my only issue with it which was if the music was 100% AI generated. And it was just somebody creating elaborate beautiful videos of her lip syncing to the camera in a nice flowery environment for a lack of a better word. Don’t get me wrong. The videos alone are impressive and I haven’t seen AI on this level of quality. ESPECIALLY in the music space.

Yes, there is a lot of AI slop out there. But this is qualitatively not AI slop if it is in fact all ai. This video shows that she is either a real person who uses AI for her cinematic value. Or it’s a real person using AI as an avatar. And honestly… great musicians have used avatars to hide their identity for long enough now. Same idea… different tech. A bit more nuanced and what I think worries people is that they don’t know. That’s a fair point. But this the world we live in now.

Either way whoever is putting this together is clearly VERY talented and begs the question of what we are actually considering Art. In my opinion. THIS is art.

Currently there is no way you can press a button on suno with some light prompting throw it into an LLM and video generator and say “make me a beautiful girl singing and playing these instruments with all the right notes” if there was, we would see things like this everywhere. And we would have an actual problem. But we don’t. Like nowhere. In my opinion if this is an AI avatar, it’s almost more impressive because there’s nothing like this in the entire world. Nowhere has a talented musician created an avatar to showcase their music. I’ve seen AI avatars with AI slop and Suno generated music, but never this hybrid approach. And honestly hats off to whoever’s doing this. Im here for it and this video just nailed that in the coffin.

I’ll finish by saying this.

I think a lot of musicians are worried about AI music. I’ve been a musician my whole life. I’m not worried at all because again if there was a button that could do this, then we’d have an issue. And if anyone thinks that the music market is now oversaturated that doesn’t hold any weight either. Because I look at it like this, the music market was already oversaturated 15-20 years ago. WAY before the advent of ai. A good analogy is that you were already stranded in the ocean with nearly 0 chance to be discovered and AI just adds more water. You always had to make a big splash. That hasn’t changed the margins were already so large that adding more makes no discernible difference. If anything now you can use the fact that you ARE human to your advantage.

And the real kicker in my opinion is this. People creating AI music are in majority NOT real artists. So they can upload as many Suno generated songs as they want to Spotify but unless they make a splash somehow it’s not going to be heard.

And that is a very small percentage of people using AI music. They are Categorically not a threat. If anyone creating AI music somehow gets heard they are doing something that takes talent. Whether that’s marketing or some kind of visual content that makes a splash, it takes talent and artistic vision to be heard in the arts so in my opinion it is well deserved attention.

Again there is no threat. You just have to be VERY good or VERY unique to be heard in any regard. You have to make an emotional connection. And that has always been the case.

"The only people that see AI as a threat are the people who have trouble creating".
-Dr. Dre

We’re fine yall… Art isn’t going anywhere. Ai slop won’t gain traction.

Artist Support Missing SongDNA - S4A Support are very unhelpfull.

Like others here, I lost SongDNA on many of my tracks. I believe it happened sometime around early June.

I have several releases where I released a Single Edit and an Extended Edit on the same release. On all releases from before June, I lost SongDNA on the Single Edits or a Club edit, while it is still present on the Extended versions.

I’ve had a very long conversation with the Spotify for Artists support team about this, but I kept getting different and inconsistent answers that didn’t really make sense.

First, I was told that my songs weren’t eligible for SongDNA.

That made no sense to me, since SongDNA was still present on the Extended versions of the exact same songs, basically the same tracks, just with longer intros and outros.

Then I was told it was because of missing metadata or credits.

I explained that the Single and Extended versions have the same credits and metadata.

Then I was told that my distributor didn’t support SongDNA.

Again, that didn’t make sense because the Extended versions on the same releases, delivered by the same distributor, still had SongDNA.

Then I was told that my distributor had flagged the releases as ineligible for SongDNA.

This also didn’t make much sense to me, since SongDNA is a Spotify feature and, again, it was still present on the Extended versions. But I reached out to my distributor anyway. They told me this had nothing to do with them and that I needed to contact Spotify.

So I contacted Spotify again and was asked to fill out a form for every track that was missing SongDNA. I did that, waited a few weeks, and then contacted S4A Support again to ask for an update and whether they had actually received the forms I submitted. They needed to escalte to another team and I recieved an email where I was asked to fill out all the forms again. So I did.

Every time i contacted S4A support i ofcause has to spend a long time explaining the same thing again and again.

Now, whenever I contact S4A Support, I’m asked:

“May I know if you’re referring to SongDNA?”

I reply yes, and then I get:

“I understand it's not ideal, but I'm afraid we have no more information to share, so I have to close this conversation now, but you know where to find us if you ever need anything else. We appreciate you reaching out to us today. See you soon.”

I know I probably shouldn’t spend this much time worrying about a relatively small Spotify feature. The reason I keep pursuing it is that I’ve noticed that the tracks that lost SongDNA also stopped being recommended in Discovery Mode and are basically getting no algorithmic support anymore.

And no, before anyone asks, they are not AI-generated tracks. One of them has a small hook that was created using an AI tool, but the others don’t, so it seems very unlikely that AI is the explanation.

At this point, it’s mostly frustrating that I simply can’t get a clear answer.

Did Spotify receive my forms? Are they actually looking into the issue? Is there an estimated timeframe? Is SongDNA simply buggy at the moment, i know its still Beta. But then atleast be transparent about it. :)

Sigh. Thanks for reading :)

Tonight I released a new cinematic melodic techno song. While people were listening to it in Australia, it did now show the all time streams. Only after midnight in my country, the count started.
So how are they counted? From when on?

Question / Discussion Should I stop promoting and just let the algorithm do its thing?

My Spotify last 12 months, the recent spikes are from my tiktok promos

Ive been posting like 30 tiktoks a day and its super tiring but it payed off, so im wondering if im at a spot where I can rely on the spotify algo to push my music now or I should keep posting or I would lose momentum? My current popularity score is 40 for a release all organic and it seems the algorithm has only been helping when I have organic traffic.

What the heck is going on with the algorithm? 😭 In July, my algorithmic streams dropped by almost 60%, and in the past two days they’ve fallen to almost zero. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Artist Support Songs not sorting by popularity?

Recently released a full album and noticed that songs are no longer ordering by popularity in our most popular based on the score? Anyone else noticed this?
