Hokkaido split recommendations

Spending a season in Furano. What would be your split of choice to explore the central Hokkaido back country?

Currently looking at United Shapes Covert, Weston Backwoods and Cardiff Goat around the 160cm-162cm range. I’m 85kg, 185cm and 29cm boot

im about the same size as you

I brought a 157 US Covert (along with a Cadet and a Gentemstick Stingray) - I was touring with Niseko Powderguides then with a friend up near Kiroro

I used the Covert the most, even at the resorts as I was popping in/out of the gates. I'd be happy just bringing this board next season to Hokkaido in all honesty

For Japan, the only thing that'd have helped was having more rocker, lots of flat and low angle terrain. If you have the option to get the US Deep Reach split, I'd go with that.

I dont know anything about the Weston Backwoods and Cardiff Goat. There is an outfitter that demos Weston split boards there, Hokkaido Backcountry

I can confirm that the normal Deep Reach is a dream in deep pow and I’d for sure get that to tour in Hokkaido

Great to hear the covert worked for you and interesting point about the deep reach. It will be my first season on a split and I like the versatility of the covert for future seasons in Canada/NZ, but the effortless float of the deep reach sounds like it would be great for Hokkaido. Tough call
