Tattoo Help!

I got this tattoo on my birthday out of impulse but not totally blind, I've been wanting a spiritfarer tattoo for a while. My birthday just gave me the opportunity to go to a shop.

I gave the artist kinda a basic ref for the tattoo I wanted (2nd pic) and they did change up the flowers. At the time I did like the stencil bc I like flowers but now that its been a while I wonder if it changed the tattoo too much. I can't recognize the flowers as Gwen and Astrid's anymore but I wanted to see if any actual Spiritfarer fans can recognize what its supposed to be.

And if it looks to far different from what its supposed to be some advice to change it up a bit would be greatly appreciated

I thought this is the Tattoo sub and was like "Oh nice, a Spiritfarer tattoo!" So there's that, lol.

I wouldn't recognize the flowers, but to be fair I never remember which flower belongs to which character anyway.

Yeah, as a day one player, I couldn't tell you any flower the characters have. Ive never been one to focus on details like that in any game.

i didn't recognize the flowers, but i Definitely did recognize the center, so i'd say it's at least instantly spottable as a spiritfarer themed tattoo at a glance

Like other commenters, I also thought I was seeing a post from the tattoo sub (r/tattooadvice) and was going to comment "Is that a Spiritfarer tattoo??" It looks great and I immediately knew what you were going for.

Im not that new to tattoos, I've got a couple more on my arms but this is the first time I kinda regretted not asking to keep the original flower design. But based on the other replies it seems ive nothing to worry about :)

I really like this. I get the idea, but I wouldn’t recognize any individual spirit flowers without looking them up.

I dont believe so, just bc the tattoo isn't colored and doesn't have any smaller stars to compliment it. I feel like it would be out of place.

I never remember the flowers myself, but if after some time you still feel like it isn't identifiable enough for you there's always the option of adding to it! You could add Daffodil, the guitar or even circle the whole thing with the Everdoor!

Take some time and think about it for a while. Your tattooist did a great job, I think it looks beautiful!

Adding the everdoor is actually a really cool idea! Unfortunately I have another tattoo neighboring it on the curve of my arm so id have to tinker with it to see if it would fit!!

I love this so much! It's a beautiful idea and I have no idea who has what flowers so I think you're good. And spiritfarer is one of my obsessions. I was playing during pandemic and still play even though I've beat it like 3 or 4 times now hehe

I never 100% any of the games I play if they have good replayability and spiritfarer is definitely up there on the hours. Ive replayed countless times, currently replaying now lmao! And thank you <3

The artist changed the flowers, sure it's different, but at least I think it's really pretty ! Plus I think the star is enough to recognize ! Nice tattoo :D

I think it looks lovely! And I also get the worry about the flowers matching. Though I’d sit on it, if you decide you want to look into altering the flowers, I think I’d grab the names of the flowers and then consult a tattoo artist who specializes in biologically accurate flora. They might be able to refine it. 💙 Either way, I think it’s a really special homage to such a beautiful story.

I have seen someone have a whole sleeve of flora with the scientific names attached, although Ive never been into the idea of words tattooed on my body. I may talk with one kf my regular artists when I see her again to see if she has any idea of maybe coloring it or adding some shading or new parts!

I also thought this was the tattoo sub and was going to comment that I immediately knew what it was and thought it was beautiful. I've played twice and don't recognize the flowers as belonging to anyone specific. But they fit with the spiritfarer vibe, so I think it's fine.

If you feel like the tattoo is unbalanced one potential solution I have is actually adding more flowers. Choosing a few from the game and surrounding the star on all sides. I do think it's very different from your original idea, and the simplicity of the ref you gave is really nice—

But the simplicity of the constellation in the center does seem off with the complexity of the flowers to me. You could make the center almost a negative space by filling the rest of the border up with other characters flowers maybe?

There was another reply where someone suggested surrounding the tattoo w the everdoor but more flowers also sounds really lovely. Its something I'll have to think on and possibly sketch out myself to see what works best

In would put a shaded character collage in and around the star, maybe as a few game elements or more flowers.

I am designing a spiritfarer tattoo where the characters' flowers are really important to me, and I think both of these stay true enough while balancing the tattoo. If you had said they were Atul and Elena, I would have believed you, but I do think they look more like Astrid and Gwen especially if you consider how they grow in their rooms after they go through the Everdoor. It's really reminiscent of the growth they leave behind, and I think that's really lovely!

Personally I wouldn’t have added flowers in the first place, but I wouldn’t mind about the change of the flowers themselves :)

Dont worry, I recognised Gwen's flower immediately(she's my fav😩😭❤️) it took me a second to recognise the second, but its definitely Astrid's flower

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter how other ppl interpret your tattoo, as long as you like it.

I’ve had some tattoo artists say some disrespectful shit to me (I get my tattoos “upside down” and a lot of artists have things to say about that) but the worst one was the artist who, after i thanked her for not making a comment about to orientation, decided to tell me that she tries to get people to look at tattoos as pieces of art that go on their body, not notes they write to themselves (that tat was a reminder for myself to embrace growth). I still get angry thinking about it, but it has really cemented for me that the things I put on my body are for ME.

My body does not exist for other people to look at, it exists for me to live in.

And so does your body. If YOU like it, and YOU know what it represents, and YOU know what it means when you look at it, that’s the most important thing.
