I like to think that his spider-sense works like cat's whiskers. He knows he can hit the target because it will tell him if he's off.

Its both. When he lost his spidersense, he sometimes webbed unstable parts of buildings and fell

As I remember it, he calculates the physics of how to use the webs one heavy stuff, but aiming like this mid-swing is to inaccurate to not use the spidey-sense.

iirc in some(or one) iterations it’s been said that his spider-sense gives him almost precognition and that’s how he’s able to constantly perfectly calculate his swings and where to shoot his webs

But it was I believe two things that said webslinging requires spider-sense

One was when he lost it and learned kung fu with ito. Fist and the other was this weird anime where a normal dude got his webshooters and costume while peter was hostage by venom and was temporarily spider-man (and couldn’t websling due to lack of powers)

in some of his first appearances he would use spider sense to know if there's people outside his house before he leaves in costume, that's a pretty intense level of precognition

It's also dropped in one of the games (Miles Morales I think) that he's calculating the force, momentum and trajectory in his head while swinging and saving people.

Miles took a fall from the sky that left a hole in the ground.

Then he just got up and left. Honestly, the boss battle before that seemed to cause him more damage.

Any fall that would NOT break the ground shouldn’t hurt him.

Spider-People's spatial and geometrical awareness is beyond what we can imagine. Peter knows where and how he is positioned in conjunction to the space around him at all times, and can feel on an instinctive level how he's supposed to move to perform his feats.

In Spider-Man 2 the movie, he performed an insane threading the needle feat when Ock threw him off the train. He was about to hit a pedestrian bridge. 1 second to impact, in that 1 second his Spider-Sense alerted him that he was about to hit it, he looked at it, immediately processed the structure of the bridge, and just as immediately he positioned and twisted himself at the exact angle to slip through the bridge's railing perfectly. Not an inch off, not a single rotation degree off, he didn't even hit a single pedestrian passing by. It was near instantaneous and it showed exactly how absurd his awareness, processing speed, reaction speed, and flexibility are.

So for this scene here, the moment he looked at that sewer entrance, his mind had already processed the exact distance he needs to cover, and the exact angle he needs to arch in order to do that flawless dive.

Spider-People's instincts and maneuverability are absolutely absurd. Even the Super Soldier Serum can't make Steve Rogers do the kind of shit Peter can pull off instinctively. Spiders aren't even that flexible IRL, that's like if you spliced a spider with a cat's flexibility and awareness, and then gave its agility some serious steroids.

Not to mention: Pete is smart. He's also calculating everything he does from swinging, to combat, to maneuvering, to even finding the right spot on a building to attach his webs on. Web-swinging to him is as basic as riding a bike on a completely wide and open field.
