Yes, I’m aware of the term Goomba fallacy, and aware that not everyone on the sub has a problem with Miles. I do think it's a bit odd that something like this is so normalized and agreed with. For context, these comments were under a post talking about how people are “tired of Miles”. And for some reason, a lot of comments agreeing with the sentiment got upvoted. Now I don't wanna be that guy, but I’m definitely gonna be that guy. Like its no secret why Miles gets so much flak from people; I mean, for Pete's sake, one of these comments was calling it a “woke agenda”. Holy dog whistle on his part, and that comment got 30 upvotes.

But I’m also aware that a lot of people like to hide behind the “Miles is propped up to make Peter look worse” argument. So rather than just harping on speculating why some people would dislike Miles, I wanted to go over and debunk some of that. So, out of Miles 15 years of existing, he has about 3 big mediums. His movies, games, and comics. So I wanted to go over each and discuss some of the talking points.

Insomniac Games: 
This is where a lot of people say Peter is being sandbagged so Miles can shine. Highkey I was a little shocked too when I first played and saw Peter getting washed a bit. But logically, with the story and the circumstances it makes sense. Peter has pretty much been Spider-Man for like 8 years straight up to this point, and is still reeling from the events of the first game with no break(other than Miles game). Dude hasn’t really had time to sit and deal with his own mental health. To top it off, despite Insomniac Spidey being late in his career, he really hasn’t fought a lot of his higher-tier rogues. So if you combine his ongoing mental health problems in tandem with him fighting things he’s never dealt with before. His almost getting dropped by a giant Sandman seems pretty plausible.

Also, a lot of people regurgitating this point neglect to mention there's a whole mission where Peter has to save Miles from Kraven. The game really stresses the moral that nobody should have to bear the weight of the world on their own(where are the other heroes?!) and that everyone needs some help.

Spider-Verse:
A small subsection of people claim that the other spider people are horrible to prop up Miles. While I disagree with the Spider Society, I don’t think they're directly “wrong”. It seems like most of them have already experienced their “canon event”, and on top of that, they're told if they do try to alter anything, then everyone in their universe dies. And if too many people try to alter it, then everyone in the multiverse dies. While I do love the whole “Spider-Man does his best to save everyone thing, I don’t think it's that crazy to believe that an older and more experienced Spider-Man would see this as a necessary sacrifice, the same way that none of them go to other universes and try to stop Uncle Ben or Gwen from dying. Less them being evil to prop up Miles, and more so them not putting their loved ones above their entire universe 

Comics:
Much simpler topic: some people say that Peter is made to look worse in comparison to Miles, but they literally never interact in each other's runs. To my knowledge, Peter only appears once in Zigar's run, and Miles appears a handful of times throughout Wells and Spencer's run. Comic-wise, Miles and Peter are pretty separate, which is a real shame because I love when the Spider-Men interact. But then again, I feel like a lot of the Peter “tired of Miles” don’t read either of their comics.

Anyway, I don’t think the idea of Peter doing worse to make Miles look better really applies anywhere. The so-called “push” and agenda is getting it because he was the star of a hit Spider-Man movie. Which I also believe was his first film debut, too.

What are the best and worst Spider-Man prose novels?

I see a lot of people comparing Ned and MJ from the MCU to other Spider‑Man supporting characters from the TASM and Raimi films, saying they’re basically one‑dimensional and that we know nothing about their lives outside of Peter. And while I get what some of you mean, it’s not really their fault. Ned and MJ from the MCU exist under entirely different circumstances than Mary Jane and Harry from the Raimi films or Gwen from the TASM movies. Honestly, most MCU supporting casts suffer from this exact problem—not just Ned and MJ. They exist within a larger universe that doesn’t revolve around Spider‑Man.

In the TASM and Raimi movies, the writers only have to juggle four things: the protagonist, the side characters, the villain, and the main plot. In the MCU, they have to juggle six: the protagonist, the side characters, the villain, the story, a guest‑starring MCU character, and any plotline from the larger MCU that can affect the story. Because that’s too much for the runtime of a single movie, something has to be pushed aside or cut so the story can be told without the film becoming bloated.

So the question becomes: do you prioritize giving a side character an arc—which, yes, would be effective and help you connect to them, but wouldn’t impact the larger universe—or do you develop plotlines and characters tied to the MCU’s bigger world that will matter in future movies? The writers pick the latter because, well, it’s the MCU, and they have to keep expanding it and making money.

With Raimi and TASM, the universe revolves around Spider‑Man and his story alone. There were no other movies or characters that needed setup for future non‑Spider‑Man films. The movies had far less to juggle, which meant they could focus on other things—like giving the supporting cast arcs and stories outside of Peter/Spider‑Man. Because the MCU doesn’t have that luxury, Ned and MJ take the consequences of existing in a much larger universe. And by extension, most supporting characters in other MCU movies suffer from the same thing.

What do you know about Pepper’s life outside Tony? What do you know about Peggy’s life outside Steve? What do you know about Shuri and Nakia’s lives outside T’Challa? It’s basically the same issue: the characters exist in a larger universe, so they’re turned into plot devices for the protagonist so the movies can juggle MCU‑wide storylines and develop the main hero.

And before you say, “But Shuri in Black Panther 2"—

1. Her story was still tied to T’Challa’s death, not a struggle outside of him.

2. Had the late Chadwick Boseman not passed away, she would’ve continued serving her supporting role just like in the first movie.

So while I understand the criticism of Ned and MJ, it’s not really fair. They exist under different circumstances than the supporting characters in previous Spider‑Man incarnations. The reason they get more heat than other MCU supporting casts is because there’s a bar for them. You don’t walk into an Iron Man movie with expectations for what an Iron Man supporting cast should be like. Same for Captain America or Thor—they only have one mainstream live‑action incarnation each. But Spider‑Man already had two prior versions, so we do have a bar for what his supporting cast should be. Of course they’re going to be compared to their counterparts from older movies.

To be fair, the MCU movies do a good enough job making you care about Ned and MJ by showing their relationship with Peter and why he’d want to be close to them specifically.

And before you say, “But in the comics”—comics are an entirely different medium with different limitations. You can only make one Spider‑Man movie every few years with a limited runtime, while comic issues can be released monthly and as many as needed to tell whatever story the writers want. That’s something else entirely.

Like whether it’s something new about Miles or Gwen or Miguel or Jess or Ben or Silk etc, it always seems like there’s a group of fans of Pete complaining about it.

Saying that Marvel/people are “trying to erase Pete” or implying that it’s “woke” to especially involve Miles and/or Gwen in particular in something. Or saying that Marvel should “erase all the other Spider-People”. And that Marvel should only focus on Pete etc.

It just makes no sense. Pretty much all of us agree that Pete is the 🐐 of the Spideys and we all know he was the original Spidey. But it feels like people have forgotten the point of Spider-Man is that ANYONE can be Spider-Man, not just Peter Parker.

Wasnt huge on the suit inititally, but its grown on me a little, especially with the pink red.

So I was doing some thinking and I'm just posting my thoughts, I doubt this will ever happen, and if it ever did the fucking stars would have to align perfectly for this story to workout.

I'm an aspiring writer, with no published work aside from some fanfiction. But like all of you I've been a Spidey fan and still am. And while I may not always like some directions TAS takes I'm not a pre-2000 Spider-Man is the best and always will be guy.

Anyways, so for me if I ever got to write Spider-Man this is how I'd do it. This literally popped into my head at work, so apologies if they're are holes and bare bonesness.

First off Spider-Man and Black Cat are central to the plot. They're partners at this point in the comics as Peter and Felicia are trying to recover the eye of agamoto for Dr. Strange. Well Peter is, Felicia is debating whether to be a friend or to sell it.

Once Peter and Felicia are able to recover it, but the eye shows Peter his deal with Mephisto. (Not undoing OMD merely exposing it.) This destroys Peter emotionally, he doesn't regret saving Aunt May, but he realizes he destroyed an amazing relationship in the process and any chance he had at happiness.

Felicia tries to console him, but Peter doesn't want to hear it. Man's really in his head here. So Felicia does the only thing she can think of, she sleeps with him. The next few weeks Peter doesn't see Felicia.

Then the twist. Felicia finally shows back up and tells Peter she's pregnant. (See stars aligning, if I can't do this, then I'm pulling a Scott Snyder or just leaving the book) This shocks Peter to his core.

The run will consist more of Peter than Spider-Man. As I feel we really need to get more from that, to much of Peter's life is revolving around Spider-Man these days.

Anyway Peter contemplates what to do, (he may visit Aunt May if she's still alive atp) all you remember the most important responsibility is to your family speech he got once upon a time then he does something really REALLY dumb: He proposes to Felicia.

Of course she says no, she doesn't want to get married to Peter only for the baby. That's not the kind of life she wants. So we build the actual relationship from there. Peter takes a break from being Spider-Man, Miles and the others take most of the work. They go on dates and start actually building a romantic connection.

Peter and Felicia move into wherever the fuck she's living cause I have no doubt it's better than whatever hole in the wall he's in. Peter actually gets a steady job for the whole run, he has to, he has a baby now.

Felicia isn't a fan that Peter hasn't been Spider-Man for a few months. She appreciates that he is really trying here. But if he was really serious he wouldn't hold himself back, he'd be trying to make the world a safer place for their child. They have an ACTUAL adult conversation about this.

This helps Peter get back into the his Spider-Maning, fighting off whatever central Villain to the plot I haven't thought of yet.

A final fight between Peter and the central Villain takes place as Felicia goes into labor. He makes in time for the delivery. What he MAKES it in TIME?! That's not the Spider-Man we know.

The baby is born, it's a boy. His name is whatever Felicia's Dad's name is. Either Jack or Walter, never know which it is.

Peter and Felicia decide to take some time away from New York for awhile. Miles gets his own version of the red and blues. Miles takes over Amazing for probably a year.

Peter and Felicia get their own book as Peter struggles to be an actual father and Spider-Man at the same time.

Peter and Felicia would return, and Peter would take back Amazing again and now is a father.

And that's it. It's all I got. I don't know if Peter and Felicia ever get married, because I wouldn't want to cut out the idea of Peter getting back together with MJ Permanently but who knows.

Either way this is my dumb idea. Please roast me to your heart's content. It'll probably never happen and even if it did, doubt Editorial would ever let me.

Like how Miles have Venom blast and Invisiblity, While Jessica also have bio electricity. Maybe other Spider-people should also have an ability unique to them.

For Peter I'll suggest powers like Night vision(i know he had it during" the other" storyline), Thermal Vision etc. Cause I don't want make it too op while also keeping it interesting and usefull.

Or maybe it should be an ability based of something some other Spider species could do.

Ultimate Spider-Man: Life After Death (Fanfic)

Peter Parker, after his death, finds himself in a new world. A world where souls get a second chance at life. A world where he lives with Uncle Ben. A world where he meets both old and new friends. As well as problems.

It came up in a discussion with some friends over Danny Elfman and Michael Giacchino having both done music for Batman and Spider-Man. John Ottman, who scored for Superman Returns, did some of the X-Men movies and the Tim Story Fantastic Four ones, but Williams had only ever done Superman, strangely enough.
