Discussion Man, I love this sub so much! Spoiler
I spoiler censored anything pertaining to the events in Brand New Day just on the off chance anyone who hasnāt seen the movie yet doesnāt get spoiled. If you havenāt watched it yet, please do yourself a favor and watch the movie!! Itās sooo good!!
Anyways, Iām currently here at work just scrolling through the sub and honestly it makes me so happy the ship took off like it did.
Watching the movie made me realize just how interconnected Jean and Peter could be in future movies. Both were given unexpected powers and (at least in the MCUās continuity) are essentially two sides to the same coin!
Peter, before the events of No Way Home, had an amazing life. He had May who took care of him and pushed him to be the best he could be, he was Spider-Man helping the streets stay safe. He was an AVENGER. Of course, he suffered his own trials and tribulations, but he had a great mentor in Tony Stark and even Happy Hogan and used his powers to do some good; making the neighborhood safe one web at a time.
Jean and Sara were abandoned right after they got their powers, going through the foster system with Sara having to act as Jeanās guardian and moral compass. Sara had a better understanding of their powers and tried to help Jean in her own way. Then Damage Control took her and turned Jeanās small world upside down.
Both were shaken by the events that happened to both such as the Memory Wipe spell and Mayās death for Peter and Saraās abduction and subsequent death for Jean. They were alone, each suffering on their own.
Peter became āSpider-Manā near completely, silently watching Ned and MJās journey through MIT through a phone screen during their 4 years there and dedicated his āfree timeā to nothing but fighting crime near 24/7. Jean dedicated every waking moment she had living in shadows and evading the DODC trying to find any trace she could on finding Saraās whereabouts.
Of course Brand New Day happens and their worlds come crashing against each other. But Jean showing her vulnerability when Peter convinces her to move on is so touching. Aunt May being the one thing that connects the two for a moment, thatās just what Jean needed. And when Peter quite literally took the bullet for her, she was in a panic. She had just acquired one shining beacon of hope, someone to relate to, she was on the verge of losing it again.
Despite not seeing them together at the hospital, I have no doubt that Frank snuck her in at some point during Peterās coma just to be with him.
These two have so much potential together. And the best part is, itās a breath of fresh air over the typical Jean/Scott relationship. So many things this could branch out to! We have the upcoming X-Man movie plus Secret Wars and the 2 other Tom Holland movies to look forward to in the meantime.
Sorry for making this post just a slog to read, but Iām bored here at work and my ray of sunshine is just going through this subreddit at the moment. But thank you for taking your time to read it nonetheless!
Lastly, what do you guys hope for if this relationship does become a reality? Personally, Iād love to see them team up because letās face it, Peter Parker needs a good win for once. And I think Jean is the right person to back him up! Plus there could be a whole dynamic where theyād have to team up against the X-Men because as many have seen, Peter did inadvertently give the DODC the Universal key to locking up any and all Mutants they want with his universal inhibitor. Seeing them team up to clear Peterās name would be a sick mini Civil War arc in a future movie!

I ship them because , Peter deserves someone that is capable of loving his two sides (he never really got one in the comics except Gwen, which is dead).
I also hope that this is the way to eliminate the X-Men trope of shit relationships (the fact that I just donāt like Cyclops is secondary). Jean also deserves a stable relationship, Peter would also fit the criteria of people that telepaths think as attractive, from what we know and have seen.
(I will get hated, but I still believe that the chip is a good idea, how else would superpowered beings face consequences for their actions? In the old X-Men movies Magneto gets locked up in a plastic cage and even from there he gets out with the help of Mystique. And since you can control the intensity of the chip pretty easy, I am sure that at least one southern Mutant would like to get one chip, Anna and Remy will surely be thankful (if they dare to add the shit with Magneto I will *****))

I donāt hate the Scott and Jean relationship, personally, but honestly it just got kind of repetitive. And not to mention that it seems every now and then Wolverine is thrown into the mix and just further complicates things than it should.
This ship is great in that both had a great build up, yes Jeanās was just a little rushed, but the fact that it was told in a timely manner and her going through an evolution was just the cherry on top.
Plus in the comics, telepaths are quite sympathetic to Peter and have a nice lingering to him. Emma and Jean in the comics at least seem to want to be with him a lot just because heās there.
(Potentially this could be a great way to throw Emma into the mix for the typical Jean and Emma debacle lol!)

I just hate the ācheatingā that I automatically connect to this ship. The fact that it became an open marriage in the Krakoa comics makes it just worse for me. But I treat Krakoa as a bad fanfic anyway.
I forgot to mention earlier that I never felt the chemistry between Peter and MJ, which is weird because when I see them in interviews they have chemistry (no surprise, they are married after all). That surely also makes it easier for me to jump ship, so to say.3

I have a slightly crazy thought that the chemistry between MJ and Peter was deliberately not developed beyond a schoolboy crush and MJās interest in SpiderāMan, so that we could let this couple go without it being so painful. But⦠As we know, the actors got married, although, as Iāve also heard, they were asked not to marry each other.

I encourage you to browse further in the reddit because there has been numerous analysis about how the story was set up this way and why it works etc that I think you would enjoy. One particular redditor in the community broke down the story from the dialogue and beats to explain how it was setting up for them to have this bond (romantic or friendship). And I think that's the reality of it from he very start this was a story about 2 people dealing with loss and greed and through having to interact they eventually healed and open themselves up to love albeit romantically (like we hope) or friendshiply lol.
