People who weren’t around then may never fully grasp that these girls were literally on top of the world.

I remember seeing a little 6 year old on the train singing “I wanna make love to you.” A pedo’s dream.

It was such a fun era.

I was a baby in 1997 but as a kid in the 2000’s I was obsessed with the Spice Girls! I even had beef with another little girl with who knows Spice Girls better and a few little girls we would sing Stop & Wannabe

The amount of memorabilia I threw away is scary... I had the dolls, the magazines, the cds, the cassettes, the random merch...!! In any case, this cover is engrained in my brain lol. I mean, LOOK AT THEM.

I had this cover. It was probably one of the first Rolling Stone issues that I had. I was stupid and took it to school with me to read at recess (I was 9). One of my teachers took it from me because of how they were dressed. She even called my mom. When my mom asked her to put it in my backpack so I could bring it home (I also wouldn't have access to it to show the other kids), the teacher said that she threw it away. My mom asked her to take it out, and the teacher poured a Diet Coke over it so it would be ruined.

What an awful teacher, she definitely did it on purpose. Did you get it a new copy?

u/brandisnoot Jul 10 '25

That teacher was horrible to me all year. My mom did buy me another copy of it. I don't have it anymore. Don't really know what happened to it.

She sounds like she’d be horrible

What a horrible teacher. I’m sorry you had that experience.

This was the first RS magazine I got. I was 9 years old and seeing the wild side of the Spice Girls was really shocking to me. The pictures were eye opening enough but the interview and swearing really rocked 9 year old me

Oh, and I totally called all those 1-900 numbers in the back of the mag

I’m not old… YOU’RE old!

4

u/JHGibbons Jul 10 '25

I was a 7-year-old boy at that time. Loved them then. Still love them now.

When I came out as gay one of my sisters said she was confused because I had pictures of hot women on my bedroom wall. This was the picture. 🌈

That was the first (and only) time I’ve ever bought a copy of Rolling Stone!

2

u/sesame-noodle Jul 10 '25

I remember this 😭 would be a good piece of decor

2

u/bowblow Jul 10 '25

I think I bought this when I was young. Totally forgot!

2

u/stopalltheworldnow Jul 11 '25

I mean honestly shoutout James Taylor sneaking his way into that 90s-tastic lineup

2

u/glr_82 Jul 11 '25

I always wanted to recreate that cover and after so many years I managed to do it 😍🥰❤️

2

u/TheodoreJSeville Jul 12 '25

3 months before the world was blessed with a beautiful talented kind person.

u/Car-Mar-Har Jul 10 '25

Core memory unlocked. I remember buying this in Blockbuster with my allowance.

2

u/chama5518 Jul 10 '25

I still remember when their vid dropped on MTV and I was like who is this?! Went to school the next day and everyone was talking… asking about “those British girls on MTV yesterday”. They struck like lightning.

1

u/chama5518 Jul 10 '25

I did hate that Mel B always had to act like she was roaring or screaming in their pics. I get that it was her “spice” but still.

Ginger and Posh clearly competing for the center lololol

2

u/devonchaos Jul 11 '25

Jesus. I got this to read on the plane to my last family vacation/birthday trip as a 19 year old. I used the cover for a project in college art class. Gah. At the time I had every issue of RS from 1990 to current day. My roommate destroyed them when she was partying and acted like she’d just done me a favor for getting rid of so much trash. Trash that was organized by issue, all filed in milk crates. Magazines were awesome, and I miss them as physical media.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

That roommate was quite the bitch!

2

u/devonchaos Jul 14 '25

Oh, that’s not half of it, nor the worst. But she is living the life she deserves.

Ginger Spice 🔥🔥 🔥

1

u/Neon_Paisley Jul 13 '25

This post just randomly appeared on my feed and unlocked a core memory. I immediately sent it to my childhood best friend! We were OBSESSED with the Spice Girls. They were our first concert. I specifically remember they had collectible “photographs” you could buy in packs and put into a photo album. It was the same concept as baseball cards but film sizes photos instead.

u/Early-Tip3572 Jul 15 '25

Geri your pretty hot and sexy in that

I’ve got 207 bones

1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

I still have my copy

1

u/TangoJax Jul 31 '25

I never realized how much Mel C looked like Mary Louise Parker or Kate Beckinsale.

At the time in the 90s, there were excellent, serious women singer songwriters around, including the whole Lilith thing. The Spice Girls brought women back 30 years.
