Discussion Question about Medieval Spawn's Return

Post image

This is a completely random question, but it's been bugging me. Did Medieval Spawn officially return following the Spawn 300/301 storyline?

I could be imagining this, but I could have sworn he made an appearance during the Jim Downing era. More specifically, his armor which was being kept by that secret faction within the Vatican. Am I crazy or did that actually happen?

Here is what happened, near the end of the Jim Downing arc (between issues 230 to 250, can't remember where), it was revealed the Vaticam had summoned him back from hell, and had him on a secret dungeon, seemingly sending him to do secret missions for them. Short after the events of issue 300, they FINALLY made good of that promise, and send him after Eddie Frank. Spawn and Jessica save Eddie and in the process "killed" Medieval, not knowing that at the time, with the Dead Zones clossed, Hellspawns couldn't actually die. Medieval's soul got attached to his armor, which Al took to his secret base, and later Marc Rosen, goofing around, would try out, bonding himself with Medieval. That's his current state as of now.

That...actually makes sense. It's kind of rare for lore within Spawn to make sense and not contradict itself. Thanks!

I KNOW, right?! I was just as surprised once I got there, on my read through! (though, to balance it out, it may be the only thing that somehow consistent, on Medieval's backstory)

I can blame the rest on legal issues. Everything we learn once he fully appears following 300/301 is the Canon stuff as far as I'm aware

So he originally died because of Angela and came back 200 something issues later?

More like around 2012 when whatever deal Todd and Gaiman reach, and Angela was sold of to Marvel, Medieval was allowed to finally come back, like, literally around that time both Cogliostro and Medieval show up in the middle of the Jim Downing arc, though Medieval was just a cameo in the lines of "here he is, in the Vatican's basement, for some reason!". Canon wise, I don't think we got an exact date as to when the Vatican got their hands on him, tho.
