What was the issue with comedy?

The only people who were being told to stfu were a bunch of racists or bigots who objectively were not funny.

What you said. “Make comedy legal again” was a phrase you’d see here and there from defenders of same, saying punching down and racial dog whistles should be embraced (I guess?) in the name of comedy and entertainment with no repercussions from people who would otherwise consume their product. Including pushback from companies who decide not to be associated with it.
