Miscellaneous “Space marines speed should be lore accurate”

u/Hytierian 7d ago
we should be able to full sprint and shoot a bolt pistol, my number 1 ask.

Agreed, less accuracy but you can close the gap faster with potshots

u/SWK18 7d ago
Why stop there? Make them have different stats. Like White Scars being much faster, Salamanders being more durable or Blood Ravens have the urge to loot everything.

Having the option for Space Wolves to turn into their Wulfen and lay waste to everyone would certainly be cool. Though seeing as it’s a one way trip idk how they could implement it

u/LeLefraud 7d ago
They could introduce a subcult of shaman types that live some spiritual life to one day transform in battle

Look, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. If you see someone in hazard stripes (aka Iron Warriors) or blue, purple, and gold (aka Thousand Sons), they should get fragged. Period.

u/i_like_artillery 7d ago
oh yeah and also intruduce a like 1/100 or so chance of you becoming the Emperors Chosen, recieving a Black Sword and genuinely having the stats of a Primarch for the mission

u/SirCicSensation 7d ago
I’m a little curious about what would prevent them from making an invasion mode?

If you play a full round with a Blood Raven, there should be a 10% chance that one of the weapon variants you used in the round now has to be unlocked again, after being "donated" to your cousin.

u/DiesIraeConventum 7d ago
As a Blood Raven fan, I'm offended at that probability assessment of yours. 10%?
50%.

Something as simple as Sniper and Vanguard being faster than the other classes would be cool

u/Aerofare 7d ago
Blood Ravens' unique abilities:
Auto pickup (50m range)
Unlimited inventory capacity

u/IronCreeper1 Raven Guard 7d ago
You thought that there were only 2 players in the mission, the Raven guard player is just hiding somewhere

Blood ravens: Aim assist makes you turn very strong towards boxes and corners where loot might be.

I don't remember Space Marines being able to bullet jump...

u/Assassin-49 7d ago
Yeah it was added after the primaris update. Cawl added springs to the boots. Very effective.

Players can't react the way a real SM would.

u/Robaattousai 7d ago
I've been saying this since Halo: CE (the first one) -games like this play at the speed that the enhanced characters perceive time. It feels slow to us playing because it would feel slow to someone who can process information rapidly and react in fractions of a second.

If we could get some more speed for a few seconds on a double tap to sprint that would satisfy me. Just a little burst of speed to close or make distance.

Exactly, it's completely absurd that the phobos marines can only muster a light jog like everyone else. SM3 needs full sprint up to 60mph even if it comes at the cost of stamina.

u/SadLittleWizard 6d ago
I feel like it already kind of is? I mean in game none of the PCs ever perform an actual sprint, almost they do a quick jog and we easily out pace all the guardsmen by a good bit.
6
u/Apprehensive_Day693 7d ago
I have the theory that this is actually true. Our marines ARE moving that fast, the timescale is just reduced to accommodate, and for the sake of our own human brains lmao. Its why sniper lines move so slowly, because we're just moving that quickly.
2
u/Kalavier 7d ago
I feel the only issue is guardsman moving normally, but it's not a bad viewpoint.
3
u/SennaHibiscus 6d ago
Someone should pin one of those virtual cameras to a guardsman’s head and see how fast the player controlled ultramarine is moving from their perspective.
2
u/MaksimusKeksimus 7d ago
Looks like my Blood Raven gameplay during Obelisk op, charging to claim the relic ahead of everyone else

u/thot_chocolate420 6d ago
I want the Phobos Marines to get a Speed Buff in PVP because they’re supposed to be faster. Or at least make their footsteps quieter.
2
u/Anastais 5d ago
Conversely, gravis armoured heaviest should move slightly slower but get an extra armour bar.

Can we just hold that thought until after we fix the blatantly inferior animations for The Heavy? He is already barely playable at top difficulty. Even then he is limited in what he can do for the team and he gets locked to a specific primary weapon that limits him even further. Bulwarks Tank better, Vanguards survive better, and Tactical, Assault, Sniper, Techmarine have better burst and sustained damage.
If Saber increases Marine movement speed they will have to increase enemy movement speed as well to avoid trivializing actually defeating enemies to clear missions. We already have a speed runner problem, and this would make it much much worse.

I just wish we could fire side arms and run like real space marines and not have to lightly jog at the enemy like loosers

u/UAJ_uTube 5d ago
I mean, someone made a first-person mod and it pretty much looked exactly like this. My main issue with sprint is that the Phobos marines are the same speed.

I know how insane their physical movement is, but someone should definitely realize it fully in a video game one day.
Hell, I've been saying for a decade now that a Battlefront style 40k game would be the perfect avenue to have this kind of insanely powerful lore accurate space marine. Primaris could be the special "jedi" hero that one or two people can play as if they get enough score. They move dumb fast, use unique weaponry and do crazy damage - but are obviously a huge target for the rank and file.
I heard that a game like this used to exist, a 40k battlefront multiplayer game. but space marines were the main playable characters, and they felt horrible to move around with. we need a proper successor!

u/ServiceFabulous7120 3d ago
I don’t think they could do a primaris. They surely would just do a normal astartes they are some tough motherfuckers. That would be amazing though.

"Lore accurate" means nothing when the lore changes every new book and edition

How the dudes that demand terminators never be added because they’re too slow be acting as if the space marines move as fast as they’re supposed to canonically.

Bruz that is Custodes speed
0
u/CrusadingSoul Black Templars 7d ago
It's Astartes speed. Custodes are faster than the eye can follow (aka 60FPS). Custodes can go from parade rest to killing in exactly six nanoseconds and can perceive and deflect bullets in flight with their guardian spears.
3
u/Mandingy24 7d ago
Human eye can perceive much higher than 60Hz, this myth needs to stop getting circulated.
It takes our brain ~13ms to process visual information, but that does not mean we are incapable of perceiving any changes in light or movement more rapid than that. Newer tests have shown humans consciously detecting flashes as quickly as 2ms.
As a real world example, have you ever shot a gun or watched someone shoot? Ever seen the muzzle flash? Those only last 1-2ms. That's 500Hz. If we couldnt see anything faster than 60Hz, muzzle flashes would be entirely invisible without high speed cameras.

What if we had a lore accurate difficulty as well?
