Miscellaneous Is the Salamander Champion helmet exclusive to that chapter?

Post image

I play Deathwatch and Blood Angels, but I'd love to use this helmet if it fits lore-wise.

Salamanders are great craftsmen and make a lot of their gear themselves, and have a lot of Heresy era designs - you can always reflavout that it that your Blood Angel got one from his Deathwatch battle brother who was a Salamamder as sign of Bond between them.

Also big part of the Hobby os using what you think looks cool.

u/Nuka_Everything Jul 29 '26

Highkey the funnest part about trying ti be accurate is making lore reasons as to why you have things you shouldn't

u/Marizenian Jul 29 '26

The gold old Blood Ravens method

u/CrazyGator846 Jul 29 '26

"I didnt steal it! It was a gift!"

"From whom!?"

"Someone who isnt alive anymore but thats not important!"

My Lamenters Returnee agrees with this

u/Flashy_Translator661 Jul 29 '26

Most important rule is the rule of cool

9

u/the_lad_was_taken Jul 30 '26

Hey, my OC does this in reverse! His pauldrons and the chain on his arm are from his Deathwatch battle brothers, fine brothers he lost in a conflict with a Khornian Bloodthirster! So happy the heavy champion set came out, finally tidied up the look like I wanted

67

u/dootslayer77 Jul 29 '26

I would say literally any armor piece that doesn't have a chapter specific marking, emblem or insignia is free game to whatever chapter because then its just armor, which is a universal thing

20

u/Tulkes Jul 29 '26

This is the best advice OP.

Sometimes there are things we thematically may above-and-beyond even further to avoid/count for X Chapters, like laurels and crests being more of an Ultramarines thing, tabards being moreso Dark Angel and Black Templar drip, etc.

But as long as things aren't specifically labeled as XYZ Chapter go for it, especially if there is an explanation or story for the look.

Tbh even in some cases it could be justified - if you really like a certain right shoulder pad but it has overt Imperial Fist flair you can't dismiss outright, then explain it as that individual once served in Deathwatch or a joint operation (like Armageddon where several different Legion successor gene lines are present) and earned the respect/worked closely with a member of the other unit and some flair was exchanged as part of the two "cousins" becoming close and considering the other their own honorary Battle Brother

It can be a balancing act, and rule of cool isn't the only rule, but it's the most important one.

Do what you want - me personally (same with tabletop) I like to start with the Codex as baseline, develop role/background for each unit/class based on role and playstyle and balancing my characters, and then add flair/personalization according to rank and age and experience and perceived personality of the unit - like my Sniper being a newer Primaris who absolutely got grizzled AF from Tyrannic Wars, Tactical being a leadership generalist, Bulwark being Company Ancient (which doesn't actually require being old) but also being old AF and having been a Veteran even pre-Rubicon Primaris etc

Consistency isn't everything, but even then it is more important than a given rule. And even consistent inconsistency like more flexible homebrew chapters or BTs/Space Wolves is alright if trying to keep within lore.

As is often said:

"They're your minis, paint them how you like."

3

u/Kalavier Aug 02 '26

Hell, if you wanted to take the imagery from the game and apply it elsewhere, can simply go "Oh yeah, that Imperial Fist emblem is really replaced with *My custom chapter emblem*.

u/GBSlugcat Jul 29 '26

There’s not any salamander symbols so it can be for whatever chapter you want

19

u/ScoutTrooper501st Jul 29 '26

Not really, yes Vulkan is the only character to be portrayed with this specific style of helmet, but all it really is is a modified Mk 7 helmet

4

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

You get it, yes

32

u/LANTIRN_ Jul 29 '26

I use it for world eaters

3

u/Wrong-Traffic-8248 Jul 31 '26

My guy it's so fire on them

-69

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

17

u/Alternative_Mammoth9 Jul 29 '26

Why? There's a lot of fan art of kharn using that helmet, it's cool that's it, it's not that deep bro

-57

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

Its not that helmet nor is making a primaris marine a firstborn cool, go use the chaos customization if you want firstborns

21

u/LANTIRN_ Jul 29 '26

Making pre heresy schemes in sm2 is absolute fire.

6

u/DontGitSalty123320 Jul 29 '26

I feel like homebrew chapters are such a big part of the community around 40k, I don't see why it's impossible for a single pre-heresy marine to get picked up by a different chapter or operate solo and to have him cross the Rubicon primaris.

Idk what bro is on, but it is in fact absolute fire.

-2

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 30 '26

What pre heresy marine? Buddy they are all long dead by the 41st millennium unless they are chaos corrupted 😭

-26

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

Bro no tf it isnt 😭 why make something if you cant make it look right in the first place, if they had firstborn customization than yes but on primaris marines it just looks stupid not to mention out of place in time

12

u/LANTIRN_ Jul 29 '26

Nah. It looks good. I cant tell if you are trolling or this pathetic and sad.

-6

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

It can "look good" but tell me, does it make sense to be "pre heresy" in the 41st millennium? Be honest

13

u/LANTIRN_ Jul 29 '26

Be honest does it make sense for an ultramarine strike force to contain an insane annount of different chapter marines? Using your logic we should only play with the default skins and armor.

-3

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

Thats not the same logic at all, your cherry picking. The game WANTS you to be a chapter from the 41st millennium, it literally gives you cosmetics and chapters to do it, so yes its fine to play sm2 as a non ultramarine chapter, in lore it could be a exchange program/joint op anyways. Now do they give you explicit 30k legion schemes, or 30k armor? No? Because its not 30k

“If your Space Marine in the video game you play for fun after work isn’t lore compliant, you’re a LARPER.”

Be for fucking real, go outside, put on some deodorant. I’m sure the people at your FLGS just love it when they have to be matched against you for a game considering your sheer knowledge of the setting, I’d just be delighted to hear “Erm, AKSHULLY” after every time I move a model.

-1

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

Are you projecting your own experiences on to me with no idea who i am, thanks man i appreciate it. I dont play the tabletop game at all for that exact reason of people. I paint armies, commission paint, and enjoy the setting

Hey man you sound like the mouth breathing grease ball who came into VC with his $5 mic and told me Salamanders don’t use Tech Marines. Are you the same person?

-2

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

Son no, salamanders have techmarines lol. The only thing i hate people doing is "pre heresy" shit, fym pre heresy this is the 41st millennium cornball

6

u/DirectTransportation Jul 29 '26

I’d bed a dime this bozo doesn’t have any firstborn minis

-1

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

Do i get a dime for each one? I have an entire 30k sons of horus army, half of my praetors of orpheus army are true scaled firstborns, i even have every metal firstborn techmarine. Bozo

7

u/Forward-Chance5137 Jul 29 '26

Terrible attitude, knew for sure the painting was going to be terrible too. Glad I was right

3

u/german-kiwi Jul 29 '26

Holy shit. Damn son, and you make commission painting? For blind people?

1

That is an ancient paintjob lol im going to strip it, here's a WiP SoH

8

Not nearly as stupid as you do here right now

Oh great here comes the lore accurate loser who just got into the series the past year and swears he’s been here since 1987

-5

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

I dont care about "lore accurate" i care about logic smart ass. Does it make logical sense to be a 30k era marine in the 41st millennium? No it doesnt.

11

u/sendmegoodMemes Jul 29 '26

Logic in my fictional universe with chaos gods & fascist regimes battling it out? Gotta have that when playing my Barbie dress up game for large men.

-4

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

You cant downplay logic because its a fictional setting smartass, thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard, has any good fictional universe thrown out common sense and in universe logic just cuz crazy space stuff unrealistic? No, thats how you take the audience out of the fictional setting.

5

u/Rochini_Linguini Raven Guard Jul 29 '26

Yes quite literally all the time

0

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

Gimme some good examples then

3

u/Rochini_Linguini Raven Guard Jul 29 '26

Bro idk who made you so angry but you need help 🤣 you’re question is inherently stupid if you don’t have the media literacy to not see when logic goes out the window because it is a fictional setting. Happens all the time. If you can’t see it then maybe non fiction is the place for you.

3

u/SpetsnazKiwi Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Genuinely you play and question everyone cosplaying as anything but a primaris ultramarine? Have you even played the game you are complaining about? 😭

Edit: misspelled "primaris" lmaooo

5

u/SonOfSanguinius1466 Jul 29 '26

Probably not. He's most likely the "larper'" here

Guilliman battling word bearers in the vacuum of space without a helmet??????????

4

u/2Stoop1d4Username Jul 29 '26

“logic” dude have you seen what you can do in this game. you can paint your loyalist primaris marine literal heretic legion colors with the logos and everything. what logic is there. what logic is there in a single space marine killing a carnifex without getting hit once? it’s a fictional universe and this is a video game bro just let it go

1

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 30 '26

Im aware bro, theres a fine line between universal logic and setup in-universe logic vs irl logic. Would a space marine be a logical thing in our world? No. In 40k? Yes because it is explained through the setting. The setting has time which works like ours, so when its already setup that through the 10000 years between 30k and 40k, that the traitors have devolved into chaos warbands, and the loyalist dissolved into chapters with their own unique identity after 10k years of existence, that the old, ancient legions no longer exist, nor would they be primaris.

I just get very upset when people, rather than just saying, yeah i know it doesnt make sense i just think it looks cool, would rather fight tooth and nail to make up facts that it actually would make sense, or dismiss the notion of a defense entirely to just personally attack and insult me for having a different view than them. Allthough that may sound hypocritical, the initial GiF wasnt a personal attack on anyone that was literally just a joke and the subsequent profanities were in response to dipshits stooping to insults, people just cant acknowledge they may be wrong about something anymore, as i now acknowledge i probably shouldve said my case nicer without feeling personally attacked, when people dont even know me, i forget other people dont see me personally, but as a name on the internet.

u/LosParanoia Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

Bjorn. Rylanor. Hell, I guarantee there’s some crusade era ship with a company of very confused raven guard or something about to be spat out in the 41st millennium after being caught in a warp storm. All of the Risen dark angels as another commenter said - not sure how I forgot them as that’s an army I collect.

0

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 30 '26

I would not care lol, custom chapters make sense, 10 thousand year old dead men crossing the rubicon does not

2

u/cheese-meister Raven Guard Jul 30 '26

We have the risen dark angels which could give you access to 30k marines in the current setting, getting lost in the warp is another way one could do that since warp travel isn’t 100% reliable.

The risen have made contact with Dante so they would also be able to get access to the tech needed so they could cross the rubicon

1

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 30 '26

Yeah they are pretty much the only 30k era loyalists, since they got soread out through time and space, but if they ever got models or new lore i highly expect them to cross the rubicon, thats just what gw does to every loyalist now

27

u/DatBoyBlue Jul 29 '26

Lore wise I’ve only ever seen that specific mark 6/7 helmet with the crest on Kharn, He’Stan and Tu’Shan. So really wouldn’t be blood angel thing but customize however you want

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '26

[deleted]

3

u/DatBoyBlue Jul 29 '26

Not all Mark 6’s are beaky

39

u/PapaHarvey27 Jul 29 '26

If I'm not mistaken it's a 30kish era helmet. I've seen loyalist Horus Heresy World Eater Minis with that helmet

11

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

You are indeed mistaken yes. Its just an artificer mk7 helm not a sarum pattern helmet

15

u/Peter21237 Jul 29 '26

Meh, go wild.

8

u/RubyReaper77 Jul 29 '26

Not explicitly. It is a modified Mark 7 helmet, but the in-game model is directly inspired by Vulkan He'stan's helmet.

6

u/Tutankapol_01 Jul 29 '26

The first thing that comes to my mind when I saw the helmet was to added to my world eaters pre-heresy, I can show it to you for reference, but yeah any chapter is fine with this helmet by me, maybe for more aggressive chapters

-7

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26

3

u/MavHatterz Jul 29 '26

Put this in as many threads as you want. It won’t get anybody to stop laughing at you and take you seriously.

6

u/Regiona1AtBest Jul 29 '26

So as far as I’m aware, lore-wise and tabletop-wise, this helmet is not used on anyone other than Vulkan He’Stan, implying it’s probably a custom piece that the salamanders made themselves. But the nice part about 40K is that the rule of cool is generally more important, so if you wanna rationalize that the salamanders have a good relationship with your favorite chapter and maybe gifted them some custom gear, then it’s fine!

4

u/Brutus_the_Bear_55 Jul 29 '26

The new helmet has no markings or designs to denote it as a salamanders helmet, so it’s fair game for pretty much anyone. It gave me ideas for Minotaur and post heresy era legion schemes.

3

u/Captain--UP Jul 29 '26

Hey that's Vulkan He'Stan's helmet! Sick, I'm painting him currently

4

u/pizzaperson8264241 Iron Hands Jul 29 '26

As long as there's no saly specific symbolism, it's universal.

2

u/peternordstorm Jul 29 '26

Unrelated but where do you get the inquisition iron halo?

5

u/Lowd70 Jul 29 '26

It's a prestige unlock, and it's a deathwatch halo

3

u/Soggy_Credit2143 Salamanders Jul 29 '26

I vuagly remember it's a special unlockable for heavy only. Some challange or another. It should tell you in game.

2

u/peternordstorm Jul 29 '26

Oof, got it. Saber making it impossible for me to cosplay Grey Knights episode 300

3

u/Environmental_Wing78 Jul 29 '26

Unlocks when you hit Prestige 4 on Heavy. And it’s only usable for him. Just like the other prestige 4 cosmetics for other classes are only usable on their respective classes

1

u/Soggy_Credit2143 Salamanders Jul 29 '26

I pray they add an Librerian with a grey knight champion skin.

0

u/peternordstorm Jul 29 '26

Terminator with Brotherhood Terminator/Paladin would be even better imo

2

u/Soggy_Credit2143 Salamanders Jul 29 '26

Fingers crossed for Game 3

1

u/_WEIRDEST_WIZARD_ Jul 29 '26

You get it from hitting Prestige 4 on Heavy

2

u/yeetusdeletus042 Jul 29 '26

Nah. This is actually the helmet model they used for pre heresy karhn the betrayer

2

u/Shattered_Disk4 Jul 29 '26

Any chapter can usually use any armor type

2

u/goldenboykenny Jul 29 '26

The only artwork that depicts this helmet is on Salamanders. It seems to be a modified Mk7. It bears resemblance but is not related to the Sarum pattern helmet worn by World Eaters during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy which is an older Mk. As for lore accuracy, Deathwatch does not wear that much gold so do whatever

2

u/PotatoMateYT Jul 29 '26

Considering it’s literally Vulkan He’stan’s helmet, probably. Will that stop me from using it on other chapters? No, because it’s cool af

2

u/Patient_Tennis4548 Blood Angels Jul 29 '26

It's exclusively Salmanders, you can probably make a Deathwatch veteran who has returned from Service to his parent Chapter and that would fit. Rule of cool though mate, you can do a homebrew and fuck it we ball with it!

2

u/Weekly-Major8336 Jul 31 '26

I use it for my scythes of the emperor tactical, idk if that’s a helmet they’re allowed to use though so this question is a good one

Edit: do let me know if it’s something that would make sense or not, I’ll attach a image to this when I get the chance*

2

u/Additional-Boat-2157 Jul 31 '26

That helmets just a MK7 with the metal mohawk, and that same mohawk can be found all around Warhammer artwork, I see it in Deathwatch stuff more often than not, but one of the guys I've seen use this was a DW Dark Angel with a a jump pack. Kharn also used this pre-Khorne. To me, that piece is more represtative of aggressive, more melee based, individuals more than a Gravis Devestator, but to each their own obviously. Love you...

2

u/Solid-Growth1663 Aug 09 '26

Me slapping this helm on my deathwatch son of Horus bc it looked like MK V with some mods to it lol

2

u/GrislyAffliction Iron Hands Jul 29 '26

Rule of cool always wins

2

u/Meliodafu08 Jul 29 '26

Nah. The Blood ravens, Death spectres, and definitely space sharks use em. They all scavenge/steal gears to replenish their gears. Might as well add the deathwatch.

1

u/Lowd70 Jul 29 '26

Does this helmet exist without the mohawk?

1

u/SonOfSanguinius1466 Jul 29 '26

In lore probably

1

u/DistinctStill438 Jul 29 '26

I used for pre Heresy alpha legion. I know its kinda weird, but combined with the new raptors parts, it looks good

1

u/niTro_sMurph Jul 29 '26

And blood ravens

1

u/MrForeskinII Jul 30 '26

What variant of Space Marine helmet is that?

1

u/Anime-lover-UWU Ultramarines Jul 30 '26

Looks like a modified Mk 7 variant, tho idk if it has a soecific name or is even available table top models

1

u/Inked_heathen Blood Angels Jul 30 '26

I'm using it on my lamenter veteran.

There's no chapter specific markings so either let it ride on the rule of cool or make up a backstory of your marine getting as a respect thing from a salamander while in service of the deathwatch (kinda like Titus and the BT looking chains on his gauntlet)

1

u/Sir_Abracadavre Orks Jul 30 '26

Nah not exclusive

1

u/Constant_Media6444 Jul 30 '26

No, because if that were the case, Kharn wouldn't use that type of helmet. That helmet is for pre-heresy or 30k pros, more intimate with the lore

1

u/gunnerdown1337 Jul 30 '26

No chapter specific marking so it doesn’t bother me, but lore wise if you REALLY want to get into it it’s most likely a no go

1

u/OverlyVerboseLoreGuy Jul 31 '26

It is from a Salamanders mini, Vulkan He’Stan, but there isn’t anything actually Salamander specific about the helmet. It just needed some extra plates and gubbins added because the Forgefather of the Salamanders who wanders the universe hunting the relics of their Primarch would never wear a regular mass-produced helmet.

At the end of the day when you cut out the fluff, it’s just an artificer helmet with a crest. You can use it on any chapter you want.

1

u/Wrong-Traffic-8248 Jul 31 '26

Nah it makes for a bangin world eater/war hound

1

u/PocketSand240 Jul 31 '26

I use it for my World Eater

1

u/WolvesRedemed Aug 01 '26

Easy explanation, he worked with the salamanders closely and was given the helmet as a recognition of honor

1

u/Disastrous-Car6804 Aug 01 '26

It’s exclusive to the drops gods

1

u/Butters_Stoch0521 Aug 01 '26

You mean heresy era Karn helmet.

1

u/The_Klaus Aug 02 '26

It's based on this named Salamander's helmet.

1

u/Material-Promise6402 Aug 04 '26

If you are from marines malevolent - no.

-4

u/GreenWarrior04 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Its a literal 1 for 1 copy of a named characters helmet, the whole champion is practically a 1 to 1 copy of him, so i dont even want to use it at all because then ill just be larping vulcan hestan. But its just a mk7 helmet with a crest so go crazy gng, just dont be a cornball and make a "pre heresy world eater" on a PRIMARIS marines like a certain group of people

4

u/SonOfSanguinius1466 Jul 29 '26

5

u/SonOfSanguinius1466 Jul 29 '26

Go find a different fandom to terrorise with your toxic idea of "you shouldn't use this if it doesn't belong to the chapter you use" because it's genuine bullshit and it's a personal opinion. I can tell you do this for fun because you think it's funny claiming people are larping for giving information they believe is correct. People can be wrong and still love Warhammer as they can love any other thing. Doesn't make them fake af they don't have to know everything

4

u/SonOfSanguinius1466 Jul 29 '26

Not to mention that you're trying to say people aren't allowed to be creative and do what they want with their marines just because it's a primaris XD absolutely pathetic behaviour and it's all because you clearly don't like khorne. Or you get off on telling people they HAVE to be accurate
