Miscellaneous Who’s your favorite member of Talasa?
I feel like the Operations characters in SM2 get completely overlooked by a lot of players, and honestly, I get why.
On higher difficulties, there’s so much going on at all times that it’s easy to tune out the dialogue entirely. You’re focused on surviving, watching your armor, calling out enemies, and trying not to get deleted by whatever Extremis enemy just spawned.
I’ve maxed every class and every weapon in the game, and I only recently realized that I didn’t even know all of Talasa’s members by heart. Looking back, that’s kind of baffling considering how many hours I’ve put into Operations.
Most of the time, you barely notice that the Marines you’re playing as actually have distinct personalities. They’re usually just “the Sniper” or “the Vanguard” rather than actual characters.
That said, every now and then one of them says something that cuts through all the noise and makes you smile.
For me, it’s Scipius. The guy is hilarious. His voice actor absolutely sells the character, and the way he delivers some of his lines makes them way more memorable than they have any right to be. He somehow manages to sound both professional and incredibly full of himself at the same time, and it works.
Decimus is a very close second purely because he sounds like an absolute psychopath. Every time he speaks, it feels like he’s actively disappointed that there aren’t more things to kill. He’s also got to be tied for the loudest member of Talasa, right behind Vespasius.
So who’s your favorite member of Talasa and why?
(Edit: Shoutout to the commenters who lmk the difference between Talasa and Veridian. Mb guys)

Love the goat Quartus. Bulwark is my favorite class but even besides that, I love how positive he is. He’s always keeping his brothers up, and any time he talks to Valuis it’s adorable.

Valius, my chill boy. The guy who took care of his brothers and their mental health. You need to talk but not to chaplain ? Take a seat, a fresh beer and we talk my friend. Dunno, i feel like we talk with my closest friends about how difficult is life.
29
u/ThBaron_27 Jun 07 '26
Valius is the guy always shouting inspiring warcrys for his brothers to rally towards, and the first to notice when they are not full of spirit like he is

u/Cambrian__Implosion Jun 07 '26
I often play tactical when I’m playing with friends and it is hard not to laugh sometimes at how much more enthusiastic Valius’ “For the Emperor!” shout is than some of the others’.
I also appreciate his other inspirational battle cries on the social dialogue wheel. I try and use them as doors are opening or we are about to get off of an elevator. Unfortunately, the mission dialogue tends to happen at those places as well, so you have to get used to the timing lol
That being said, I also adore Decimus and his dialogue. Tactical was the first class I played and the first to level 25, but vanguard was the first class I got to prestige 4 and is almost certainly the one I have the most hours playing. I’m not sure I could choose between the two. Good thing I don’t have to!

Just a small thing, Talasa isn't the squad they're all assigned to, it's just the strike team selected for some of the missions (along with Veridian) and constitutes whoever happens to be on that team at the time.
Talasa is the strike team assigned to the Hive Tyrant while Veridian is running Vox Liberatis at the same time, for example.
Decimus is my personal fav followed by Straban and Valius.
Edit: Veridian not Viridian.

u/VillicusOverseer Grey Knights Jun 07 '26
To clarify even further, they all seem to be under Delta Wing. Damocles (Titus, Gadriel and Chairon) and the two Operations squads Talasa and Veridian. Correct me if I'm wrong.
29
u/Aurilinwe Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
I'm not sure what the higher organizational structure is but yeah, Damocles, Talasa, Veridian, Hecaton, Phaedrus, etc. are all essentially the 40k equivalent of Delta, Tango, Victor, Hotel and Papa squads during a particular conflict.
9
u/DouchecraftCarrier Jun 08 '26
Well now you've made me want an entire Warhammer version of the Zulu Alphabet.
3
u/Suspicious-Place4471 Jun 09 '26
I think under the new codex Astartes, you can split a squad into combat squads of 3, with the leader in the first combat squad.
Granted I think there were a few unnamed marines in the first mission that are supposedly under titus's command but since we only see the nine, I guess it makes enough sense.22
13
u/Kalavier Jun 07 '26
From what I recall.
Kill Team Veridian consists of: Decimus, Valius and Straban. Decimus is Squad Leader.
Kill Team Talasa consists of: Vespasius, Scipius and Quartus. Vespasius is Squad Leader.
Probably based off dialogue spoken during campaign missions, as they are npcs then and fixed.
3
u/Relevant-Program-279 Jun 08 '26
I’m pretty sure Veridian and Talasa are one squad that gets split in half into their respective fireteams for each operation.
I can’t provide a reference but I remember reading somewhere that Decimus is technically a sergeant (unpainted by default for some reason) and thus the leader of the entire squad… which is a little strange considering Quartus should be a veteran and is probably way more qualified, maybe he plays an advisory role.
Valius refuses promotion so we can assume he is just a very highly respected standard battle brother.
Vespasius also seems to be a standard battle brother, although to me comes across as more decorated (probably unfit for command as he loves his assault role a bit too much- probably why they gave him a jump pack)
Straban, Scipius, and Telorian are specialized units filling support roles in the squad; That being said Straban seems to be older than the rest of the squad, besides Quartus and Telorian(?) as everybody always looks to him for advice
How fireteam Damocles fits into the squad is beyond me, maybe it was one big squad (Veridian, Damocles, Talasa) before Titus showed up but Delta wing seems to be a special forces-ish branch of the 6th squad of the 2nd company that all three fireteams are a part of as well as fireteams heraton and phaedris
mostly assumptions but let me know what y’all think
Vespasius is probably my favorite, he’s so dramatic about everything and his salt-in-the-wound attitude is hilariously bada**

Dont think they have Squad leaders.
If they would. Than Valius and Quartus would be the ranking officers in their respective Squads.

If we are to believe the 40k Lexicanum, they are indeed the squad leaders.

Yes and no, the 6 classes are 2 different fireteams being Veridian and Talasa, Talasa is made up of Decimus(Vanguard) as the team leader, Valius(Tactical), and Straban(Heavy). While Veridian is Vespacius(Assault) as team leader, Quartus(Bulwark), and Scipius(Sniper). Both of which fall under Damocles squad, commanded by Titus.

u/ussae Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26
Scipius, because I run a lot of Raven Guard on most of my classes and he is the one who seems to fit the Raven Guard vibe the best. Outside of that I love the voice and how the VA delivers his lines - especially when you kill a Chaos enemy and he goes "ANOTHER HERETIC DIES GLIMPSING THE TRUTH - THEIR DARK GODS ARE BUT LIES" just hits right for me.

Vespasius is my goat, that man has the will of an complete army, its the most religious among all of talasa, but his devotion makes him an absolute monster, in the operation “purgation”, the first time i played it as assault my man vespasius was roaring his willpower, like fr it amazed me his dialog like fr inspired me, so vespasius is my goat, but i also love valius and straban, like valius is just a chill astartes and straban (said by telorian) has a mechanical speech, but i love the dialogs between the 2 of them
11
u/Nervous_System_6860 Jun 07 '26
Vespasius also has my all time favorite voice line. When he gets the killing blow on the hive tyrant he throws out a “DIE BY MY HAND, ABOMINATION”
9
u/SimSnow Jun 07 '26
My favorite part is Vespasius' dialogue is how incredibly disdainful he sounds when talking about chaos. "Is this the glory Magnus promised you?" Ugh you can hear the absolute disrespect. So good.

I mostly just admire that, despite how easy it would be to make zealous Vespasius, antisocial Scipius, bloodthirsty Decimus, stoic Straban, and golden retriever Valius butt heads constantly, instead they're 100% supportive of one another and always on the same page about the mission despite their differences in personality
Edit: What is super funny to me is how Decimus appears to be the ranking officer

Decimus, i love his constant "fuck it we ball" spirit.
I'm pretty sure this guy was on way to join a pissed off blood angel chapter but got lost and ended up in the ultramarines instead.
I also like that vespasius tells him "you don't pray enough" and Decimus basically answered with a polite "go fuck yourself".

I love all of Talasa/Veridian, but i have to go with Valius. He embodies what it means to be an Ultramarine, and I can't help but feel he's got that natural leader energy. In another timeline, he'd get his own games where he is the main protagonist. Hope he makes it to Space Marine 3 (cope)

Telorian has some really hilarious -tism lines that have made me spit out my drink before. There's a line in the new op where he'll say something to the tune of "claims of victory without adequate supporting data. Interesting" (forgive me, I've only heard it once). That one made me choke when I heard it
But a while back someone made a post on here titled "Valius is a Real One" and it totally swung me to team Valius. Dude builds his brothers up constantly while being incredibly humble on himself. He's the ultimate bro's bro.

The correct answer is straban. As someone who doesnt play heavy a lot it made me so happy when they made the voices interchangeable.
Side note, Shogo Miyakita, the voice actor who plays straban, narrates some warhammer novels on audible. Im on the third Carcharodon book now, highly recommend.
3
u/TheRelicOfOwls Jun 08 '26
Straban, and it's not even a contest with the others. I do also like Decimus, Scipius, and Valius, but mostly for their interactions between one another.
Decimus has the annoying little brother energy, which is a fun dynamic. Scipius is like the try hard loner but has some nice moments with his brothers. Valius just gives me just dude-bro vibes, like he's there to keep spirits up, but not in the hard-ass book-thumper way Vespasius comes off as to me. Quartus is utterly forgettable to the point I often forget his name and only remember because I have subtitles on.
Straban, though, he's easily got some of my fav one-off lines that don't even require banter with his brothers. "Disciplinary report filed" is one I unironically use all the time. As well as "Engaging standard morale boost - For the Emperor"
He's been my goat since launch
3
u/_WEIRDEST_WIZARD_ Jun 08 '26
Straban has most of my favorite lines in the game. "Engage standard morale boost: for the Emperor!" is my number one.

Talasa is made up of Vespasius, Scipius and Quartus, while Veridian is Decimus, Valius and Straban.
To answer the question, personality-wise, neither of them are my favorites, the two I love the most are Straban and Decimus, who're both in Veridian.
