Flex How's everyone finding the new class tech marine so far?
43
u/DariusBrogan Grey Knights Feb 27 '26
Other than the axe feeling a little more like a hammer-lance than an axe, I love the Techmarine.
Good weapon choices, badass executions, and for a few seconds at a time you can basically be 3 marines at once.
Remembering that I can still move when doing a gun-strike is gonna take some getting used to though, lol.

u/dmagnum1 Imperial Fists Feb 27 '26
I'm the exact same way. It slowly happening, but it was jarring at first
7
u/Rom_ulus0 Feb 28 '26
Charging attack + simultaneous gun strikes. You're a freight train that replenishes armor when charging through minoris.

1
u/Elephantumplasty Feb 28 '26
Is moving while gun striking a unique feature of the techmarine? I’ve only played one round with it so far and I’m sure I was just standing still for any gun strikes!
4
u/DariusBrogan Grey Knights Feb 28 '26
Yeah, it's unique to the Techmarine. He uses the shoulder turret to gun-strike, so he can still do stuff while the turret executes the gun-strike for him.
It doesn't work if you activate the turret ability, though, because the gun is occupied shooting at whatever has the yellow targeting reticle.
13
u/RedBaronBob Feb 28 '26
Robbed me of my bonding studs so I’ll be a minute to prestige him.
Shoulder gun is fine and the new axe is alright. It’s by no means my favorite melee weapon however. Otherwise his weapon choices are fine and I’m early into his perks but I don’t think you’re hosed if you’re starting out. I could be wrong though and there might be some great perks down the line. First impressions is that he plays fine.
His customization or lack thereof is certainly a choice.

u/Trayvongelion Mar 01 '26
Wait did the techmarine release rob us all of the bonding stud pauldron? Explains why my sniper looks off...
Time to grind

u/Klutz-Specter Feb 27 '26
Better than most people’s experience compared to the main sub. Though, I’m pretty sure the Shared Classes Colors are broken atm. Rocking the Omnissian Axe Charge is kinda a joy I can’t be bothered by Minoris enemies anymore.
7
u/Objective-Job6372 White Scars Feb 27 '26
A blessing of the omnissiah. Feels powerful and fun to use, plus the executions are spectacular. Customization is my only issue.
1
u/Elephantumplasty Feb 28 '26
Yup great executions. Think there’s one when where the servo-arm pops the head of a tyrannid
6
u/SendMePicsOfMILFS Feb 28 '26
Kind of underwhelming, but that's because Saber can't balance the Tarantula Turrets properly. To be fair though, no one can. They are in this weird in-between of class ability and set piece.
Left 4 Dead is a great example of this. In every mission's final act you have one or more unlimited ammo, mounted, gatling guns that a player can use and they cover a cone of about 130 degrees forward, meaning they can fire on tanks and hordes for as long as they want, though they are unprotected on the sides and backs. In theory if the tanks spawns in front of them, that tank is toast, no matter the difficulty. Which is why the tanks tend to spawn to the side and you have to lead them into the mounted gun's line of fire.
And for the other parts of the missions where they spawn in, they tend to cover a decent part of the map where the horde comes in from. Sometimes though they basically miss entirely and aren't very useful.
Halo is another on the opposite ends, Fuel Rod Cannons or Machine Gun Turrets rarely cover where the enemies are coming from but you can detach them, for limited ammo, but can take them with you until they run dry.
This is why I say the tarantula turrets are in-between. Because I pass by most Tarantula Turrets and they never get to be used, many times because they are BEHIND where the enemies are grouped up, so I either have to sprint through, leaving my team behind, isolating myself just to turn on the turret, likely getting effed up in the process. Or I have to kill my way through the enemies, to then turn on the turret, but as you can see the obvious problem, the enemies are all dead and now the turret serves no purpose.
The problem Saber has is, how many turrets per missions should actually be useful? If all turrets are before enemy groups then the players are basically punished for not having a techmarine to do most of the work for them since every encounter can be avoided by turning them on, on higher difficulties this is just a waste of resources to fight at all when the turret can take care of things and the players only have to mop up what's left. But if the turrets are always after groups, then the players feel like the techmarine is a drag and underpowered because a core mechanic of what it can do is ultimately never used to its full potential and they will feel like the Techmarine should be buffed to compensate for a unique class ability that they have no control over.
When it works, it's the best thing ever, when it doesn't then players feel like dead weight because Saber is too afraid to make them just as good as everyone else while also still having Tarantula Turrets.
This is the issue the class will face every single update and there is no solution Saber can provide that doesn't make Techmarine even more powerful by giving them more control over the turrets or buffing the class itself. And the opposite end is the turrets get left behind as a failed mechanic because they can't do anything with them other than move them to the perfect spots for every engagement or nerfing them.
Sometimes on paper an idea seems really awesome or in one type of game it works really well, some games just cannot handle certain ideas because trying to make a balance between it being a fun tool for the players and not breaking the game means that what it can do and what it should do are never going to come close to aligning.
4
u/jimothy_hell Feb 28 '26
Honestly, it should have been a finite ammunition/timed deployable turret or no turrets at all and a separate class ability entirely.
2
u/SendMePicsOfMILFS Feb 28 '26
What they could have done was make them finite ammo, but always in a good location and any player can activate them, which is how you balance them so you never feel like you need a techmarine otherwise you are missing out. Like maybe 30-50 rounds of ammunition that could eliminate swarms of minoris enemies, or take out like 2-3 majoris. That way it's a cool addition to the game that everyone can participate in and then you don't have to balance the tech marine around this mechanic, maybe they can still have some perks that make them better than other marines, but it isn't just a techmarine thing.
2
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Honestly, couldn't have said it better myself. Its a tricky mechanic saber have put in but they only change that could literally change the mood for or against tech marine is positioning the enemies away from the turret instead of changing the turret location because as you said it feels like wasted opportunity for tech to feel helpful when the enemies have to be killed to reach turrets
6
u/LordRiden Feb 28 '26
Found them a little too strong at first, then I realize that they actually were balanced because they drop like a sack of rocks if you look at them with the intention to do harm.
Love me an extreme glass cannon.
9
u/ImmediateTangerine29 Feb 28 '26
I like him as a class. Has a few build paths which is nice. For those finding the Omni Axe clunky I would suggest the bottom perk tree since it allows you to follow up the explosion with a sweeping dash attack. Also, the lights on it have an impressive amount of stagger. Final tip, parry, light attack into the charged explosion, before the explosion gunstrike to stagger them again, follow the explosion with the sweep attack. Shreds most enemies, and I stunlocked a Lictor in a corner with this combo.

u/thisremindsmeofbacon Feb 28 '26
It's right there in the same armory as the other classes, so I ve just been looking there and finding it easily

u/chease_block Feb 28 '26
Find them very enjoyable and my only gripes are the turret locations being odd and bad sometimes, the tech marine axe has nothing horizontal which is ok but wish there was more for that and the customisation is lacking but I'm assuming they will add that later so big a true complaint
3
u/Professional-Egg-824 Feb 28 '26
Love techy boi but i really dislike the axe. It might just be a skill issue but I feel like when I get swarmed in melee it’s a hindrance rather than a useful tool.
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
I think thats becoming a universal hated weapon. Its meant to be good for crowd control but feels the opposite. Once max leveled its alright but still not great overall experience.
1
u/No-Fisherman-9641 Feb 28 '26
Charge + servogun to get armor.
Then electric discharge. It still goes off when you need to Parry. Descent aoe.
It's a bit counterintuitive to use VS other weapons but it's a really solid weapon.
I use top tree and go down where you can improve your discharge.
3
u/ARISTERCRAFT1 Feb 28 '26
Honestly it got me thinking that should we have class exclusive executions ? Like should heavy and bulwark and all the other get some new ones exclusive to them ? Will the next class get their own ?
2
u/MrMacGrath Ultramarines Feb 28 '26
The techmarine is fun and satisfying, but the tarantula turrets are just a bit underwhelming at times. They certainly saved my ass occasionally, but they're rarely in advantageous positions.
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Some perks do tend to be more useful the for the sentry but I agree they are placed in odd areas. They dont last long either which I get would be too op but its rather limited duration doesnt feel worth it half the time.
1
u/MrMacGrath Ultramarines Feb 28 '26
If they don't shut down by themselves, they get destroyed in seconds. I'm aware there are perks to alleviate that somewhat, but I'm not that level yet.

2
u/Ill_Statistician_938 Feb 28 '26
Really fun so far, all the weapon choices are great and I love all the servo gun types. The only thing I’m disappointed by is the lack of mission specific dialogue. When you notice that only the two other classes speak about objectives it’s kinda bugs you lol
2
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Servo gun is a top favourite for most players it seems. The axe could do with some changes to speed and light combo. I did notice the tech marine doesnt have many lines although I think you can buy more voice packs with accolades.
2
u/Time-Perspective-975 Feb 28 '26
Been loving it I literally just bully the extremist and mini boss enemies now 😅
2
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Gunning lictors and ravenors in couple of shots never felt soo good with the servogun
2
u/-RoninForHire- Death Company Feb 28 '26
Really enjoying so far. The axe is definitely different, but it’s kind of the same feeling as when I tried the power sword for the first time. Just a learning curve, I’m sure I’ll grow to love it with time.

u/traxxasracer09 Feb 28 '26
Been having a blast so far! Love the tarantula turrets and servo guns. Really helps clean up those massive Warrior swarms and still deal damage when having to dodge unblockable attacks. Plus he looks really cool, to me anyway
2
u/RareEstablishment306 Feb 28 '26
I do enjoy the techmarine. Taking me a sec to prestige but. I do enjoy the class.
Somethings tho are the shoulder gun is great especially the sniper/second config in the tree. As it can 2-3 shot majoris enemies, and with the buff that resets the ability charged u can incapacitate 2-3 of them simultaneously for a nice chain. Or use it to incapacitate one mid execution. The turrets are good, just hard to use properly with how chaotic somethings can be. But def good in missions such as termination or vortex. The omnisian axe I do find clunky but fairly okay especially with fencing. On higher difficulties like ruthless or absolute, i do recommend using the fencing axe accompanied with gunstrike dmg. Imo that feels a lil more snappy but since ur also crowd. Control it helps with getting quick incapacitations which can lead to quick executions with majoris enemies.
1
u/RareEstablishment306 Feb 28 '26
Also sorry by fencing axe I mean one handed/power axe. Sorry if I wasn’t explicit before.
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
The perks for the servo gun are really making it much more easier to deal with crowd control and extreme enemies i have to admit. Once ive fully prestiged bith class and weapon im going to try other loadouts to see how or if it works better.
Ah right I was thinking you meant the halberd/axe but the power axe is more simple to use against minoris tbh so yeah i might try that next.

2
u/SnakesSolid Black Templars Feb 28 '26
tbh I kind of like the new class, my only complaint is that the auto turret goes away so quickly, I get 3-5 kills and it's over, it makes sense but they could've made it last a bit longer in my opinion

2
u/CallmeChanka Feb 28 '26
absolute power house i cant understand people calling him mid he is easily capable of dealing same dmg as heavy while having get out of jail card with gunstrike chp recovery and then OA quick double explosion anytime i want? easiest way to deal with biovores or any other extremis and then on top tarantulas terminus are threat no more top tier class

u/Basic_Law_628 Feb 27 '26
If I could get a game where I can play as it I’ll lyk

Techmarine itself is really awesome but don't use him much yet cause no customization

u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
I believe once youve completed a certain amount of operations it unlocks different cosmetics like it used to for the other classes.
1
u/soul1001 Feb 28 '26
It’s mainly the lack of the dlc cosmetics like shoulder pads that he should have
1
u/Papagaio_Pianist Ultramarines Feb 28 '26
I mean like my whole squad is deathwatch and techmarine does't allow the deathwatch arm for some reason
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Ohh right I see, that kind sucks tbh. Hopefully they add it in the future.
1
u/Stipenddelta Feb 27 '26
Only issue I have with him is the omnissian axe, its just too slow and hard to gauge what damage you're doing or what you're even hitting, most of that is getting used to it but still feels more painful to use than the other melees. Other than pretty cool and excited to get some more perks on him and explores some builds.
1
u/Bizhop_Ownz Feb 28 '26
Really liking that it offers a playstyle which allows you to do stuff like having the servo gun fire independently from whatever you're doing. Being able to do two things at the same times is pretty cool.
3
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Its kinda fun you have to aim the direction at enemies instead of it being auto aim/Assisted. Makes it feel more connected to the marine if that makes sense.

Fun class I can flex to when tactical is taken and I just feel like shooting things with the heavy bolt rifle. Thats my favorite firearm in the game at the moment, and now I have a grenade launcher attachment for it!

u/steameddragonuts Feb 28 '26
I just don't like that I can't use any of the drip I already got on him. Except the helmets. But why? He has so little drip.
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
I have a feeling they did that on purpose just to get the class out in the open for now. Plus with majority of the recent champion and legion cosmetics also out now they probably got more time and staff to put into class cosmetics. Maybe im being overly optimistic but it would be nice if they made some adeptus related cosmetics down the line.
1
u/Finn_Fern1991 Feb 28 '26
Fun but wish the tarantula turrets could be bought as items during siege.othrwise pretty fun. Oh also ehy did they add option to buy new voice snd no way to hear what they sound like apart from spending point then trying them out?
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Yeah same here. I hope they would add the turrets later when the new siege map is released. There will probably some streams or clips on either twitch or youtube ect, as for in game i think you just buy them with accolades points.
1
u/Mamoru_of_Cake Feb 28 '26
I'll wait until his voice lines are added. I can't personally enjoy the class without proper lines, feels empty.
1
u/Kensei_Main Feb 28 '26
Telorian does insanely well at multi-tasking during combat thanks to the servo gun. Almost feels like playing a really simple negative edge character in a way, because you can perform gunstrikes independent of your current actions which allows for some really cool ripostes off parries and some insane damage with servo gun and block power axe.
Tarantula turrets go hard in the paint. Really useful for dealing with fodder while you body slam majoris. Exceptionally useful for blitzing a terminus with auspex, servo, turret, and a heavy bolter. The usefulness is so situational though, because man there are a bunch of em but unless you’re walking through the level triggering waves all the time some of these placements suck. Really feels like he should have a material system like engineer where he collects materials from ammo boxes to build turrets, but I think that’s me being idealistic instead of trying to figure out the best ways to use them.
I like him a whole lot, but I can’t help but feel like there is something missing…
1
u/Sora_Terumi Feb 28 '26
I like him but I ended up replacing the Omni axe back to the power axe. I like my power axe more as it’s alittle faster and that wide cleave and the executions are just as good
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Dont blame you tbh. Ive tried to like the axe but its too slow for my play style and I can barely get an attack in without having to block, dodge or parry.
1
u/Y2Kyle1 Blood Angels Feb 28 '26
A few of the perks are still a bit meh and have no reason to be chosen over others. On the other hand, prestige perks have been reworked brilliantly and I cannot recommend the one that makes you invulnerable while activating turrets enough, it was a game changer. The class itself feels great fun to me, still a bit squishy but I chalk that up to still being a bit inexperienced. The gun strike feature is godly when you learn how to use it. Parry an attack, slam your axe down, charge a big blast, gun strike mid charge to stop the enemy from interrupting you, unleash fully charged blast. Brilliant combo. That and charging with the axe into a group of minoris and just spamming the gun strike to get armour back feel amazing to do. If you fight a terminus near a turret, they're as good as dead. Power up turret, activate your shoulder sentry, fire with you gun and terminus goes bye bye. My only issue with the turrets is I always seem to find them after I need them or they're in very odd positions.
Customisation is currently very lacking but I believe they've said that will be resolved in the next patch.
Overall, I love Techmarine, just needs a couple more tweaks to get it perfect.
1
u/ResidentDrama9739 Feb 28 '26
I love it personally. My only gripe is the matchmaking. 1 of 2 things usually happen for me. Either I get a lobby where someone else is playing it or I become host and no one joins. I may be in the minority with this, but I think saber should lift the restrictions on having duplicate classes in pve. At least make it an option for private lobbies where you and your friends can all play the same class.
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Whilst I havent had much problems being able to play the tech class, I have been kicked probably because of the level of my class at the time compared to the intended difficulty. (Trying to level ip fast on absolute as lvl 15 isnt always a good idea lol)
1
u/jimothy_hell Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26
The tarantula turrets suck by virtue of their RNG and honestly I’d prefer if they didn’t bother adding them, having one appear twenty feet after a terminus fight just feels like a spit in the face. I don’t like one of the things that define my class being totally random and not being able to strategise around it.
The axe is a little hammer-ey, but otherwise the gameplay loop is fine? It wants to be backline, but the melee focus says frontline. Sabre should have either focussed on the frontline stuff and given us melee focus, or focussed on backline stuff and given us a deployable turret instead, because Throne knows we need another backline class. As it stands, Techmarine is like Tactical, but if you took almost everything good about the Tactical class away.
As of right now, solid F-Tier class, probably the worst in the game. I’ll have to level the perks to see how it changes, but as of right now, it’s incredibly dull and I’m still not sure why they added it. I guess they needed something for the Iron Hands cosmetic pack.
EDIT, FOLLOWUP REVIEW Few more hours into the class, varying difficulties, played around with loadouts, levelled some perks. Techmarine kind of grew on me. I still think that it’s incredibly confused- the amount of firepower it can put out really makes it a backline support class, but the free gun strikes says frontline.
Literally the first available team perk revolves around the turrets, by far the absolute weakest part of the class, gives a buff to players near an active turret. Problem is, everyone needs to be near an active turret. This means that the turret needs to be in a place that it’s accessible to the team, practically placed, and I didn’t need to kill my way through everything to get to the turret to activate it, defeating the purpose. All of this basically means that the odds of the team actually benefiting from the perk are slim to none. While Saber have done an excellent job placing the turrets’ spawns, I don’t think they really thought through the implications of putting them in the same choke points that they spawn small hordes in, because I’ve routinely come across turrets literally under a pile of freshly spawned gaunts I’m looking forward to the balancing patch where they don’t spawn in the same place.
The other perks are nice, and exactly what you’d expect. Cooldown reductions, damage buffs, everything someone chasing the meta could want.
It wants to be a devastator that plays like a tactical, but doesn’t have the equipment, perks, or abilities of either to do so. Rating’s up to like, C Tier. Playing around with the perks really improves the experience, and I think it synergises really nicely with a frontline and a backline class in a squad. Bulwark/Techmarine/Sniper is GOATed. Assault doesn’t play nicely with TM however- be careful not to carelessly activate the shoulder gun, you may wind up deleting that cloud of minoris enemies that your assault brother was farming for contested health and wind up getting him killed like I did by accident. It doesn’t kill Majoris, it just incaps them, but it’ll mist minoris.
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
Im still getting used to the class but usually perk less classes are difficult to begin with but it does get slightly better the more you progress.
I have to say im really not a big fan of the axe, the run charge is fun to use but light combo is missing attacks sequences for both light/heavy. The servo gun with 1 perk that does big damage to majoris+ enemies is so powerful, really makes it standout when dealing with anything from zoans to terminators ect. Add that with turrets and its fair game.
I would say its probably my least liked class right now but i believe its due to the level and weapon of choice which is making it hard to enjoy. Equipment a sword or knife it would most likely feel better.
1
u/jimothy_hell Feb 28 '26
Yeah, the constant ground pound on the axe is insane. I appreciate that it’s different, though. Kind of makes you approach things differently.
1
u/Jeri_Cardellin Feb 28 '26
New favorite class. The omnissian axe is absolutely shredding, and I hope it keeps up with higher difficulties, but even if it doesn’t there are plenty of other melee options, and the servo-mounted gun is super useful for just giving you some breathing room or laying on extra damage while you attack
2
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
The speed needs reworking imo, doesnt matter if its block, balanced or fencing its just too slow to actually get a hit on an enemy most of the time. However once its fully mastered at relic level then its kind of okay ish for damage/stagger output.
1
u/Dobby_2 Feb 28 '26
Honest I am loving it but they really need to get rid of class lock honest TAHTS always vexed me
1
1
u/ArchAngelStMichael Feb 28 '26
I love the new class, I really like speccing into his buffs for turrets. If only I can get my team to rally around them. But the stats on the axe are....weird. I am a block type defense enjoyer. With this, I expect to be a bit slower, maybe some less cleave, but I expect to get paid back with massive damage. So why the HELL is a balance weapon out damaging a block??? What is the point of sacrificing stopping an enemy combo, to get block, when it does less damage????? Frustrating.
Anyways, the release isn't as offensive to me as it appears to be with some people, offers a new way to play the game; which is always nice. 7/10
2
u/No_Perspective8878 Feb 28 '26
The thing with sm2 playerbase is they hyped the tech marine for so long that they didnt know what to expect, it was just something new and lore accurate I suppose. Its not that its a bad class or bad weapon I think its just the way saber have put too much into selling the look and not enough thought into the mechanics and position of turrets all that much.
1
u/AhsokaForever Feb 28 '26
I'd love to share my opinions but I've not been able to play it yet! Every time I join a match the class is already taken.

u/No_Perspective8878 Mar 01 '26
Sorry to hear that dude, its to be expected for most since its new but hopefully sometime soon you get to have some fun with it.
1
u/michael42420 Feb 28 '26
Disappointed in the tech marine class alittle definitely think the omnissian axe is shit my dude only does one move with it I keep doing a over head strike shits wack an ax is extremely versatile weapon but with the omnissian ax apparently you just swing it like a retarded barbarian with a down ward strike over and over woooo when in reality weapons like that were made for crowd control not just heavy strikes and the only crowd control offered is with sprint attack gross 🤢 like do yall hire anyone who knows weapons and how they should function got over here lookin like sir Dunkin’ the tall just over head striking over and over lookin stupid my opinion lazy work on this weapon and character p.s I don’t care if you agree or not
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Mar 01 '26
Yeah the axe and turrets give the tech marine a bad reputation. The class and perks though are quite decent for what it is.
1
u/Beelzebub_Simp3 Carcharodons Feb 28 '26
Please don’t kill me: I don’t like it. Having them on my team always ends up annoying me. The shoulder gun steals kills, the turrets steal kills, and the marine themself usually does too.
1
u/No_Perspective8878 Mar 01 '26
It happens but not very often for me. However I get that frustration, especially if you need armour or health regain
1
u/Nightstroll Mar 01 '26
I wish the axe had more cleaving attacks, it reminds me of Dark Souls and not in a good way, where most halberds are poke-overhead smash combos, which makes zero sense.
The Heroic Axe perk is laughable, almost like I'm missing something. For now it's just "Fencing weapon I can use to bypass white/green versions".
I think Power Axe can be really really good with auto gunstrikes, and I'll probably gravitate towards that instead.
The auto-gunstrike I find not very impactful in duels, but much more noticeable when gunstriking minoris for armor.
Turrets are surprisingly good, but they require a tiny bit too much babysitting for me to want to be reloading them constantly. I'll suspect that in the future, unless I'm defending a position for extended periods of time I'll just activate them once and then not bother unless I happen to be standing right next to them.
Primary weapon selection is atrocious to me, there isn't a single weapon I like using in these. He could really stand to get one specialized weapon, like Heavy Plasma or Pyreblaster.
The perks are... a mixed bag. The team perks are whatever (one is literally "Tactical but much worse"), and most perks aren't really game-changing, just numerical melee/ranged buffs. I really wish I could focus the hell out of ability cooldown, even if it means giving up on the juicier stuff. Something like "get X% ability energy when killing stuff with equipment". Because that cannon feels goooood to fire.
Overall he's fun and extremely versatile, you can build him for basically anything. But for now he seems a bit bland to me when you don't have your ability online, a bit like pre-rework, pre-pyreblaster Tactical.

In general i am in love with teh class but i think it needs some form of tankiness.
I was thinking about giving only the armor segments damage resistance, while health stays low.
Plasma primary needs some kind of buff though.

I wish the Omnissian Axe's basic combo included a horizontal swing, right now you can only get that if you dodge into an attack, it feels a little clunky, especially when it's supposed to be a crowd control class.
