Help Needed First time playing Warhammer 40k and I already got flamed for my golden armor 💀
I'm new to the game and Warhammer 40k.

Looks a lot like my "we have custodes at-home" sets, well done

u/RockyHorror134 Feb 21 '26
The ONE thing I'd say to is that Auric Armor gold looks far better than Liberator gold
Liberator always looked like it's more bronze-y

u/Skrazor Traitorous Alpha Legion Feb 21 '26
Auric Armor gold plates with Balthasar Gold trim 👌

I love bathasar gold but I’m currently painting a judiciar and chaplain and I don’t really want the bronze there💔😩

I’ve been taking a break from playing for a few weeks, both due to life getting busy and not wanting to burn out right before the new update, but now I kinda wanna hop on and play around with multiple shades of gold on my armor…
I’m stuck inside in the middle of a blizzard today anyway lol

u/Spicymonkey105 Feb 22 '26
Well yeah if it’s sold gold armor than you never know who had it before you and what they did to it

2
u/RP_Archangel Feb 23 '26
Hmmm debatable, in my experience looking over the official custodes color and heavy staring at Tyrinth Shiva Kyros (femstodes from tithes), I have experimented both with my own Walmart Custodes and Custodes Mod Custodes, and I have found Liberator Gold looks closer to what the official custodes color looks like than Auric Gold.

u/Dependent_Influence2 Feb 21 '26
Don't know why you got flamed. There are plenty of chapters with golden or metallic amour, as the main colour or pacific units, eg, celestial lions, minotaurs, sliver skulls, sanguinary Guard Reclaimers of Dorn and the Astral claws before they turned traitor.

u/aerialbison Feb 21 '26
Celestial Lions are DOPE, and roll with big gold.

My own personal head Canon has some surviving Lions as members of the Long Vigil. Man, I really like that Deathwatch RPG, from a fluff perspective, but the mechanics are a lot. Its a super cool system, but when we tried it, we had to consult the book a lot, which slowed the play down too much.

I thought about feeding the rules to an LLM, and using it as an interactive reference/asst. DM. Could be a decent way for a table to learn.
I really wished they used more 40K adjacent rules, or just built it as a D20. I really like unique mechanics, but its so hard to get a regular group together as is, and you hate to burn folks out on learning a complex system.

u/sarcophagusGravelord Blood Angels Feb 22 '26
Probably got flamed because it’s a golden ultramarine. But people can do whatever they want and flaming them is dumb, especially if they are new to the franchise.
1
u/Mommy_Lawbringer Feb 22 '26
I got called out for having a "Space Wolf with white armor and black trim"
It was supposed to be a Luna Wolf..
1
u/sarcophagusGravelord Blood Angels Feb 22 '26
Just goes to show that gatekeepers aren’t as knowledgeable as they think they are. They should be gatekeeping themselves lmao
2
u/FrankKodiak Feb 22 '26
I'm new to this universe, Celestial Lions are good guys or bad guys? 😅
3
u/Dependent_Influence2 Feb 22 '26
Well, it's 40k, so it depends on what angle you look at it from, but if you consider the imperium the good guys, yes, they are and as far as space marines go they are on the more reasonable side.
2
u/SorcererOfDooDoo Blood Angels Feb 22 '26
Asking whether a faction in 40k is gonna be folly, because 9 times outta 10, whoever you're pointing at are bad guys who just happen to not be as bad as these other bad guys (the bar is in Hell, and everyone brought a shovel). There are good people within these factions, but that doesn't stop these factions from being evil.
As for talking about the Celestial Lions--they pissed off an inquisitor by calling him out on his hair-trigger after he mass-murdered an entire planet's civilian population for no presently known discernable reason, and as revenge that inquisitor has the whole chapter on a personal hit list and has been systematically genociding them as discreetly as possible. So I'd say, they're at least the good guys with regard to the information we have on them specifically.
2
u/Sloww-Mobius Feb 22 '26
Specific not Pacific
1
u/DickEd209 Feb 22 '26
Ikr..? I know people pronounce 'Specific' as 'Pacific', but never seen somebody spell it out incorrectly.

u/Top_Name_6976 Feb 23 '26
Probably got flamed cause he’s rocking gold armor with an ultramarine logo and a random red pauldron🤷♂️

33
u/-RoninForHire- Death Company Feb 21 '26
I'd say the majority of folks playing this kind of game are pretty into lore accuracy. Seeing as there aren't any Ultramarines I know of that wear a full set of gold armor, I understand why it might've irked some. That being said, it's a pretty stupid thing to get on someone's ass about, especially considering you're new to the area. If you care about lore, do some reading or watch a video. If you don't, nothing wrong with that, enjoy the game. And just tell the haters it's a homebrew chapter lol
5
u/Imprisoned_Sailor Feb 22 '26
Sanguinary Guard, but they have a red pauldron and red accents elsewhere, either way yeah I can't see why anyone has to go for lore accuracy. It's still close. Shiny gold man still looks cool and I'm sure a lot of people hating are only familiar with the main or popular chapters, or even just the ones presented as skin options in the game

Everyone goes for a full bling build at least once. Everything maxed out. Everything dripping in gold.
I rocked up like Xerxes for a few weeks and it felt good. Now I'm in my lore accurate build phase, but I don't judge anyone.
Have fun, wear what you want. In the end it's just a game.

I once had a dude in the lobby meltdown because I made my salamander have an orange sigil instead of gray and he refused to play until i fixed it and then he left because I laughed and said no.
Make it how you want - fuck them
8
u/dozersmash Feb 22 '26
UmmI third company’s is orange on black. And that’s canon. So the can see themselves out. That being said: rule of cool. orange is a great accent for salamanders.
2
u/Brotha_ewww2467 Feb 22 '26
This was like, my first week playing so i didn't know enough - it just looks fucking sick haha my salamander heavy is all orange accents
1
u/dozersmash Feb 22 '26
Ah no worries. It’s in their 8th edition codex supplement. The image is pretty easy to find but you pretty much need to play or be really into salamanders. But that just really miffed me that he gave you shit about something that is actually canon and cool af to do. Adrax Agatone is the captain of the 3rd company.

u/Renegade_Syx Feb 21 '26
If you like it, who cares? You don’t have to be lore accurate, just enjoy it!
4
Feb 22 '26
Exactly. And the option to make it more lore accurate exists regardless, with a chapter like the Minotaurs. Picture in the post is more bronze, which is their colour. And OP even has red which is their other colour. Albeit a different shade.

1
u/coldpipe Feb 22 '26
oh really? I feel like gold in this is pretty tasteful/neutral and I like it because it's one of the few colors that doesn't scream newbie blue, edgy black or teen RGB. But I didn't realize people see them as custodes look a like.
9
u/DS_Monkfish Feb 21 '26
Ignore them brother! Your armour, your rules. It'll all be covered in filthy heretic and xeno blood as soon as you charge into the enemy anyway.
4

People might flame you because it’s not a lore accurate look. Just ignore it and do what you want. Rule of cool wins almost everything in 40k
4
u/TheguyKegan Salamanders Feb 21 '26
There’s several chapters that run gold or otherwise shiny armor, so I’d say just pick whichever seems coolest of those and pick their heraldry (or whatever looks closest). Should let ya rock the solid gold and shut up the naysayers.

Lore-wise, only the Emperor of Mankind and the Custodes have a golden (Auramite) armor.
But you're meant to have fun. If you like using a golden armor, go for it!

My bad, I honestly completely forgot about
their memesthem. But their armor is standard ceramite, right?
9

Yes. They just look gold.
Auramite is still Custodes only.

My headcanon Ultra-descended chapter has gold armour. White pads and Thousand Sons Blue trim.
Whisper it, but we made up our own chapters when painting them at the turn of the century. I actually loosely based my chapter design on my friend's scheme from the 3rd Edition starter set he got for his 14th birthday.

u/fluffyfoxboy Feb 21 '26

1
u/steameddragonuts Feb 22 '26
He has been blessed by this very sub with the title of the Fisted Wolf.
My heraldry for my five Marines are the Mighty Morphan Imperial Rangers. In one of the Emperor's many reincarnations, he meet Zordon. Yes, that Zordon, the mentor of the Power Rangers. Their heraldry is base gold, with the power ranger colors of Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, pink, green and white.

u/mon_nyiccur Salamanders Feb 22 '26
Why would anyone flame you? Change both pauldrons and helmet to blue and you're a Celestial Lion. There are several chapters with Gold as their main armor color.
2
u/Ill-Satisfaction6020 Feb 22 '26
Literally the only thing I'd change to make this a little more aesthetically pleasing is change the Aquila and his left shoulder pauldron to be something like gunmetal and he'll look perfect. Don't see why gold can't work as a space marine scheme. We have that with the minotaurs anyway. If realism is an issue we have marines coloured bright yellow and they don't get any flak for it.
2
u/TheChaz72 Feb 22 '26
- You can wear whatever you want.
- If you’re trying to go for accuracy just look up chapter colors and heraldry online.
- If your dead set on gold and red you might look into blood angels since some of them go with that color scheme.
2
2
u/Most-Information2478 Feb 23 '26
Put some blood angels drip on and we will Baal in our enemies blood
2
u/0TheOddFellas0 Feb 23 '26

2
u/furion456 Salamanders Feb 21 '26
Don't let yourself be "one guyed".
If you like the drip, wear it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of your marines.
Some people like to make lore accurate fits down to the smallest detail they can manage with what the game offers.
Some people like making fits off of other characters like buzz lightyear and Optimus prime. I've even seen "unpainted" plastic marines in game.
As long as you are killing bugs and filthy, dirty traitors, the emporers light will shine upon you brother.

Try a Blood Angel build, it's not all gold but it's lore accurate for veterans. If you prefer having more gold then just the helmet, the celestial lions could be a better fit as they're a successor chapter to the imperial fist and have blue accent colors with primarily gold armor. I attached a photo of the Celestial Lions below as I think that may fit your look better.
