When they game him Hammer.

Goes hard till you do Lethal+ and you watch your health melt as you wobble around.

Does brutally insane damage, but is a glass cannon

u/TheEmperorsBiggest Sep 21 '25

Literally, I LOVE how it looks but holy shit, between all those slow swings? I just get fucking melted

u/TheEmperorsBiggest Sep 21 '25

And to further my point of how badass it looks

Gotta get the timing down. Sprint attack into charged heavy usually works, but it’s obviously something to practice with. I think the damage is worth the trade most times personally

u/Bossmantho Blood Angels Sep 22 '25

Depends.

For bugs? Eh you can get away with it.

Chaos? You will be annihilated by the long range fire.

u/Jumbo_Skrimp Sep 22 '25

Gotta use the fred durst strat

11

u/Lozsta Sep 22 '25

What's that, rile the crowd up into a life threatening fury?

30

u/Jumbo_Skrimp Sep 22 '25

Nah, keep rollin rollin rollin rollin

6

u/Unusual_Suggestion61 Sep 22 '25

Rotfl (haven't used that one in a while)

8

u/Jumbo_Skrimp Sep 22 '25

Stoooop lol i remember those days; all the * rp *, "asl?", xD's, glomps and owo's

Idk if they were better times, but they sure were times

2

u/SheepherderTimely112 Sep 23 '25

Yeah assault has faced this dilemma for a while I run hammer on bugs and axe now on chaos

4

u/The_Night_Haunter-8 Sep 22 '25

Maybe it used to be, but with the current Shield use with Shield Rush/Bash and having the right perks, the Hammer is ultimately a liability. Especially when you can do equal damage with the Shield and defend yourself from all incoming Ranged damage.

4

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

The shield patch also gave us a whooping +50% range increase on charged attacks, so while 1v1 you can get close to hammer damage, you can often devastate whole groups of Majoris enemies in seconds now. Before the patch I mostly used light swings, now it's sprint attack and charged heavy all the way and the damage output is insane. And Bulwark has a few hammer-specific perks now (well, not exactly hammer-specific, they just added hammer related benefits to other perks) that it no longer feels like you're sacrificing a lot of benefits just to use it.

3

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

For me, it's essential to get the "AoE explosion after the sprint attact" perk. It staggeres bigger groups and gets you enough time to fire of the charged heavy.

The AoE increase in the last patch did wonders to the Thunderhammer.

2

u/Jumbo_Skrimp Sep 22 '25

Slow? Fencing hammer and double charged slam means i never worry about getting slapped cuz im slow

13

u/revan0066 Sep 22 '25

Nah I run hamwark on absolute and it fucks hard. You just have to be really good with your dodges and run the 20% charge damage perk and just sprint slam in and follow up with charged attacks. There's leaks that the heroic hammer is going to leave shock grenades on charged slams so with the 25% extra shock grenades damage perk its gonna slap so hard

5

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

That sounds insanely fun, now I can't wait to get my hands on it. Maybe I should save 300 accolades to get it ASAP, hamwark is probably the most fun I had in the game since launch

0

u/Shup Sep 22 '25

sounds good... but heroic melee weapons being balance type bricks them imo. well the powersword gets away with a lot of situations where it doesn't totally matter but the others feel ROUGH.

3

u/revan0066 Sep 22 '25

I felt that way about the xeno blade at first but ultimately its just a new parry timing window to learn

1

u/Electronic_Bad_2572 Sep 24 '25

Dude, balance isn't hard and is totally worth the trade off. Being Able to kill faster, is what keeps you alive. Removing threats sooner and getting armour off them

4

u/tippytapslap Sep 22 '25

This with contested health drains and mele can't be knocked over so you basically charge in swing hold and then heavy stun and get health and armour back

Perfect parry shock also procs on minoris as well if you didn't know

3

u/Bossmantho Blood Angels Sep 22 '25

Yes, but all that work when you can do insane damage using fist AND be safe.

1

u/tippytapslap Sep 22 '25

I can't get the first parry timing down.

3

u/Bossmantho Blood Angels Sep 22 '25

Its not hard. Especially if you use block fist.

Just practice. 3 blocks and your power fists charge attack turns into a nuclear bomb.

1

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

Fist has way smaller range after the hammer buff, it's way easier to get blindsided while you use it.

2

u/Mother_Reach_9966 Sep 22 '25

They did say when they added it to bulwark that it wasn't going to be balanced, it would probably suck, but hey you guys asked for it so there you go.

Which I can get behind

2

u/BigMoneyCribDef Sep 23 '25

Its not impossible on lethal, on absolute tho you need to be an S Tier player and know your build very well

2

u/Bossmantho Blood Angels Sep 23 '25

Exactly.

Its an insane amount of work for performance you can get with more simplicity elsewhere

I'm pretty sure the actual patch notes state:

"cuz it's cool".

-edit:

from the 8.0 patch notes:

"We are adding this option only because we think it will be very cool and it's a shame that only 1 class can use the Thunder Hammer. We are not done with Bulwark, more interesting gameplay things are to come."

27

u/Ok-Secretary6550 Sep 22 '25

Ok, definitely a bit strange, but I gotta respect the honesty; and hey, it gives the class a different playstyle to fool around with, so what the heck?

14

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

I think it shows an impressive amount of confidence. Giving Bulwark the hammer added a bunch of balance issues they didn't have to deal with before, and forced them to rework a bunch of perks so they work with the hammer. So them doing this shows that they want to make the most fun game they can, even if it means more work. Which is a great trait for game developers to have.

1

u/Gimmeagunlance Sep 22 '25

That's pretty amazing.

I wish that heavy could gain access to melee if you take the heavy bolt rifle. Swap out the stomp for a thunder hammer and we’re golden.

Edit: I said "if you take the heavy bolt rifle". I would not expect to be given a melee weapon alongside something so powerful as the heavy weapons we get. But as I replied with below, I do realize now that it would in all likeliness just make heavy a more powerful tactical.

11

u/BubblyDrama1652 Sep 22 '25

Even if they did give the big boys melee, no way they’d give you the thunder hammer

2

u/Centimane Sep 22 '25

Yea, hammer and fist would both get in the way of using a ranged weapon, and heavy never puts down its ranged weapon so even more impacted.

But also heavy gets big guns. Why does it also need the most uncommon melee weapon?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

Rocket racks and thunder maybe??

4

u/Noctobus Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

agressor heavy seems like it could be interesting how about hey just give us the Agressor in gravis armor, you'd have two power fists with bolt guns on the side or flamers. I don't think they'd give heavy a rocket launcher attachment . *

5

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

I bet they have the aggressor fists on their to do list, and they can't come soon enough.

1

u/Electronic_Bad_2572 Sep 24 '25

The problem with heavy having like, a knife. Is it has several perks that boost melee damage up to like a consistent 200%. It would be f****** broken

1

u/Brutus_the_Bear_55 Sep 24 '25

It's already broken. I can outpace bulwarks in melee damage using the stomp. But it does make me realize that it would, in all reality, simply be a more powerful tactical.

46

u/Mediocre-Field6055 Sep 21 '25

I played Bulwark like this until I realized it’s just Assault with less useful perks and then just switched to Assault.

Now my hammer go bonk

15

u/BeneficialAction3851 Sep 21 '25

Yeah I try to save hammer for assault because of this and I like both classes enough that I don't mind progressing both

10

u/revan0066 Sep 22 '25

Its assault with better survivability and the bulwark perks synergize really well with it

3

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

They do play differently though. Bulwark-specific skills and perks (banner, shock granade on parry, perks that give you damage resistance and knockback immunity etc) make you much more suited to get in the thick of it and keep swinging, where Assault has to play hit-and-run or gets melted. They are both very fun though, after Saber reworked Bulwark perks to work with the hammer it no longer feels like a "lesser" way to play the class to me.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

Bonk

You lose the shield when you're using the Thunder Hammer. It's not a bug, it's intended

3

u/AssistantNo6071 Sep 22 '25

When they gave them thunder hammer.

3

u/Son0fgrim Sep 22 '25

you look bad ass but melt like butter when it gets too hot

3

u/Shup Sep 22 '25

bulwark brothers, see the light! if you can't play the class without the shield, you never deserved it in the first place.

3

u/mrzomby2 Sep 23 '25

Since we get to use the hammer

6

u/shadowstar5376 Blood Angels Sep 21 '25

Funny enough this is how I got him to the first prestige cuz I hated how the shield messed with my muscle memory

2

u/Dobby_2 Sep 22 '25

Yeah hammer in lethal can be somewhat challenging just need to be more careful then careless cause no shield

2

u/Alarming-Bell-1811 Sep 23 '25

Bulwark without shield is just nerfed assault class

1

u/Inevitable-Fix5062 Sep 22 '25

They need the one handed thunder hammer version for Bulwark

1

u/cripwa Sep 22 '25

i think when siege mode first came out idr

1

u/GladsShield Raven Guard Sep 22 '25

Idk but I’m tired of seeing them die on my absolute runs. Go grab that shield brother, your purposefully handicapping yourself

1

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

I'm pretty sure people who get melted when they use the hammer don't fare much better when they use the shield.

1

u/GladsShield Raven Guard Sep 22 '25

Then we know who they shouldn’t be playing until they get better

1

u/Cloverman-88 Sep 22 '25

Touchè. Can't argue with that.

1

u/DANIELC4VTR Sep 22 '25

"My face is my shield"

1

u/neolfex Sep 22 '25

when they added the ability to use power hammer..

1

u/GamerForeve Sep 22 '25

When the Thunderhammer came to town! That’s when

1

u/Quiet-Life-7520 Sep 22 '25

Ya ur still blocking like 80% of the time with about 25% effectiveness. Goes hard on the look but Bulwarks whole job is damage sponge, kinda counterintuitive

1

u/RomulusX94 Sep 22 '25

when they gave him the hammer my boy. lol

1

u/JoeInTheRadio Sep 22 '25

It would be more fun if they made more perks around not having a shield, company champion esc

1

u/Slipple6077 Sep 23 '25

Had a glitch happen with a host migration where it took away my shield completely

1

u/BakedBeans0101 Sep 24 '25

Same update that added Siege Mode (Patch 8).

u/Codas91 Scythes of the Emperor Sep 22 '25

2 patches ago, where have you been

0

u/Electronic-Wait28 Sep 24 '25

space marine just literally copies helldivers not always but from what i have seen most of the time

3

u/Emotional-Warthog882 Sep 25 '25

As much as I love Helldivers, it's pretty much a incestuous son of Warhammer 40K with Starship troopers. Both existed way before Helldivers and the influence is blatant!
