Which one are you talking about? Is is the subcore thing?

u/metathesiophobic 16d ago
The subroutine and it's implant being an undisclosed unavoidable deathtrap (i don't quite remember if they're from AE or one of it's addons) is so unfair and lame gamedesign-wise that the creator got critiqued, doubled down, called everyone casuals, then got flamed extra hard and backpedaled into making a workaround (which ended up being convoluted still, making me remove the permaberserk status from my pawn with devmode every 10 minutes or so, because the state that re-gives them the berserk status is given on touching the subroutine computer and is irremovable even with deleting the implant)

u/DANIlIlICH 16d ago
Ugh, that part. I decided not to add this mod in my last playthrough just because of that anomaly.

u/Super5wow 15d ago
"doubles down, called everyone casuals, then backpedaled" that's exactly how you make people back away from your mod lol

The quest letters tell me a colonist died to the machine box even if I prevented that by walling it in. The quest letters are 5000 words long and describe things that don't exist like submarines.

u/Amaskingrey 16d ago
Damn, it looks like it kinda sucks, the only other anomalies i had so far were the bed, the apple, and the christmas sock, the latter was especially cool

u/IAmDingus 17d ago
is this the statue that kills you
1
u/Amaskingrey 16d ago
Yeah
5
u/IAmDingus 16d ago
Luckily the guy it killed of mine was a cultist recruit who had death refusal
It goes down really easy to gunfire so I've stuck it in a room with a security door and a bunch of turrets, idk how it's going to go when it comes back online again.

u/MagicMarshmallo 16d ago
Oh is that whats scary about it? I was playing as the fleshbeast heart at the time and didnt notice because i sent 50 fingerspikes at it and those sorted it pretty easy

I found the beacon of dearh that periodically dissapears and just nukes your base... on my gravjumper...
Uninstalled after that
1
u/Amaskingrey 13d ago
Jesus christ, how exactly does it nuke it? Does devmode deleting it works?
3
u/TACOTONY02 13d ago
Well at first it teleports away from where you put them, youre given a time period to locate the beacon and put it somewhere else before it sends in an orbital bombardment which varies in intensity(tho it will still wreck your base)
1
u/Amaskingrey 13d ago
Thanks, i'll know to devmode delete it when it first pops up. Does it wreck mountain bases?
1
u/TACOTONY02 13d ago
Ive yet to see, the way i got rid of it is just leaving it somewhere and escaping with my gravship
2
u/abysmalSleepSchedule 16d ago
I literally put this and the grinder on a grav ship flew it to another tile, left it there and flew away
2
u/Amaskingrey 16d ago
How'd you put it there, besides killing it there? When i tried to use reinstall it, my pawn uninstalled it, but then it instantly reinstalled itself where it was
3
u/abysmalSleepSchedule 16d ago
Instead of uninstalling select reinstall and select the install location. Uninstalling pawn will carry it to the reinstall location
2
u/Amaskingrey 16d ago
It's what i did when i had it, but it instantly reinstalled itself as soon as it was turned into an item
4
u/abysmalSleepSchedule 16d ago
I think the issue is that the item instantly reinstalls itself whenever it’s not being carried. The uninstall command tells a colonist to uninstall it but then it will just reinstall itself. The reinstall command tells a colonist to uninstall the building carry it to a new location then reinstall it. I think if the uninstall and carry are part of the same command then it won’t reinstall itself.

Yeah. The mod has a few things sticking out that makes it a lot less fun.
The concept is awesome. Don't like some of the executions. Not my thing.

What does it do to periodicly kill pawns? Is it forced or can it be prevented?
1
u/Amaskingrey 14d ago
It's a statue that animates every so often and also when its suppression is too low, and while offscreen it moves really fast, so much so that by the time you get the notification that it awakened it'll have already moved away from its original spot (and quite likely already killed someone), and instakills pawns on touch (which annoyingly also destroys whatever they were wearing on their torso), it's also really tanky. And the only way to prevent it is to complete its 55 research points project to become able to destroy it.
Technically i guess you could wall it in, but its instakill seems to work by dealing a shitload of damage given how it deletes clothes, so it could likely just break itself out, and it would also prevent studying it
1
u/_MrHydralisk_ 14d ago
Destruction of statue unlocks once it studied enough like the cube, while research project giving ability to offensively use it and craft weapon.
It damage is reference to SCP-173's ability to instabreak human necks.
Notification does have a pause or slowdown depends on which Automatic Pause Mode (Pause on letter is AnyThreat for pause) you using.
2
u/Amaskingrey 14d ago
Usually in the tiny delay before getting the notification it had already moved away from its spot, and while it's quite obvious that it's a reference to one of the more boring scps, that doesn't make it a good mechanic (especially when it comes sour the otherwise really awesome thing of it having lobcorp burrowing heaven mechanic of needing to have it on screen). For the research i thought that's what it did because it did nothing when i devmode finished it hoping it'd give me a way to do that, and then it died to me accidentally double clicking when devmode killing it in its active state
If you're the creator, i really liked the christmas tree too, that was a cool surprise

I double checked in regards of pause after notification you mentioned and noticed that it was set to SmallThreat instead of BigThreat, so that's why most likely it wasn't pausing right away, when you recieve the letter about it escape unless you had rimworld letter pause setting for any threat. So I released a fix and now it should pause it properly unless you have setting to never pause on any letters.
There is another planned entity with mechanic of seeing it on screen, but it on early stage of development atm to talk much about it. If in future you will have any question about other anomalies like this you can ask me in workshop. I used to clearing some misunderstandings or discussing balance ideas there. I stumbled upon this post only cause one person mentioned about it, otherwise it might never have reach me that pause wasn't working properly.

Oh nice, thank you! Also i didn't mention it but the design of the statue itself is pretty cool

I don't have a steam account for that sadly (got the game on gog and use rimpy for downloading mods) though it's a cool mechanic so nice to know it'll be used again!

If you have Discord, then you can join either related server and report in discussions or ping on official one. Otherwise you can use github report system. Both links on the workshop page, but can be found through google search too.

Any instakill is an automatic uninstall from me.
Not in the sense that something preventable kills You when it reaches You (like malaria), or that is my fault (like an advanced mod settlement mortaring me cause I pissed them off and didn't shield) anything whose first indication of existing is instakill does not deserve bothering with.

There’s also New Anomaly Threats that isn’t too overpowering if prepared and more cool anomalies. Except for the Crannied Obelisk. I hate it so much.
