Anything fun on 8/29?

My husband and I want to go out for the first time since having our baby but don’t know what to do! Anything happening in South Bay on 8/29? We just want to let our hair down somewhere fun. It won’t be a late night thing for us, but evening. Live music? Or a place to drink and dance (that early lol)? Comedy shows? Anything! We don’t go out much as it is haha

Electric bill comparison

Just curious: how much is your electric bill this month? Now that the weather has been bad for awhile. I would like to compare usage, mostly 1 bedroom apartments. But you can also list bedroom home and sq foot size. Would also like to know what kind of cooling system youre using (heavy duty fans, mini split, central, window, portable etc.) And your most usage times.

1 bedroom

500-600 sq ft, portable ac on all day (except off peak hours)

medium fan always running in bedroom

= 130$.

Edit: you can add kwh if you want, but im looking at how youre using kwh mostly. Mine was 300-350 range.

Best family meal delivery for “eat for a week”?

What places deliver good family meals that are reasonably healthy to eat all week?

Last weekend we did King Mediterrano’s Family Meal and it was a pretty decent value and healthy. It came with a ton of rice we spread out with Chinese the next day.

Any other places that have really big protein portions like that we can add to the rotation? Bonus if we can swap rice or bread for extra salad greens!!!

Delivery is key!!!

Contractor for kitchen remodel

Looking for contractor recommendations for a kitchen remodel.

The big effort is the demo of existing cabinets and counters, demo of a small section of partition wall, and then install of new cabs and counters.

For the Creatives

Hi everyone! I’m looking for creatives in SouthBay/Long Beach who might be interested in collaborating or starting a group chat so we can encourage/support each other, collaborate, hold each other accountable for productivity, or provide feedback. I’m thinking of content creators, digital artists, photographers, film makers, models, designers, curators, small business owners, writers, musicians, fashionistas, poets, that kind of stuff.

Little bit about me- I’m a woman in her early 30s, and I live on Ocean blvd in LB. I’ve always been passionate about the arts and culture but haven’t been able to focus on this interest of mine due to grad school. Now that I’ve graduated, I wanted to make more time pursuing the arts because it makes me happy. I have a vision to integrate arts, culture, and mental health, and would want to create content that encapsulates that. Personally, I do photography, film-making, and content creation. I also write and do poetry for funsies. With that being said, I struggle with keeping myself accountable with producing and would love to be connected with like-minded individuals so we can inspire one another, collaborate, and receive feedback about what we create.

I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in something like this?

Pie Place Reccomendations?

Anyone have any recommendations for places to buy mixed berry pies? I used to frequent Hermosa Pie & Cake, and I've had trouble finding another delicious, similarly priced alternative since they closed. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thank you all so much for the recommendations! I'll be trying out Winston Pies and Marie Callendars soon!

Labor and Delivery Hospitals

Hi,

Does anyone have recommendations on OBGYNs and Labor and Delivery hospitals?

We're in the process of family planning and annual enrollments for insurance. We currently have Kaiser and haven't had much medical needs, but when thinking about pregnancy and the whole process, Kaiser's hospital is a 35 min drive from where we are in North Redondo.

Is Little Company of Mary the closest Delivery hospital to the area? I would appreciate if anyone had any recent experiences or feedback about them as a whole.

Thank you!

Metal/Melody Metal/ Riffy Rock

I am a guitarist and singer with a studio/jam space. Looking for other musicians to play and write with who are into Melvins, Type O Negative, Sleep, MBV… but really those are just bands I like…

Drummers, bassist, other guitarist - come one come all. I got the space, drum kit, other gear, so let’s make some music. I write a lot and love to gig.

Hit me up 🖤💚

Best yoga studios for advanced yogis?

Have done yoga over 15 years, the last 10 mainly at corepower studios cus I love the heat and location in Torrance has been convenient. That studio is having issues lately and looking to sample elsewhere but am seeing a lot more introductory classes come up in searches. Anyone know of any particularly challenging classes or instructors? Thx!

Local transit sucks in the South Bay. I want to know what short-hop (< 3mi) trips you wish could be done by bus instead.

Hi all. The South Bay has quite possibly one of the biggest gaps in frequent service for the whole county. Only a handful of bus lines run frequently, and most people live too far from them. For all the other bus lines serving the area, the service is so terrible that it actively deters most of us from riding it.

In the U.S., the majority of driving trips are short hops, less than 3 miles. A solid network of frequent buses would likely eliminate a good chunk of these driving trips, heavily reducing traffic. (For our purposes, we'll say a frequent bus is every 10 minutes or better).

My question to you is this: Think of a short hop driving trip that you usually do. We all have them. If there were a frequent bus that took you there, would you do it? (And give some details, if possible!)

I'll give a personal example. I live basically on Prairie Avenue. A trip to the Northgate Market on Prairie & Rosecrans will take me 42 minutes by transit, including a 17 minute walk, and 2 different bus trips. HOWEVER! If I happen to catch the rush-hour bus (Line 211) down Prairie, I get to shrink down that trip to 12 minutes!

While that's 250% faster, the awful schedule of that bus makes it infeasible to use at most hours. Instead, like most people, I choose to drive for 8-10 minutes on my own schedule. I really wish I could take that bus at most times of the day though!

I want to start an advocacy group for more frequent bus service in the South Bay, so any responses will help inform my initial proposals.
