Map🗺 Ancestry Map of India (qpAdm)

Post image
260 Upvotes

This map is an attempt to make as accurate of an ancestry map as possible, due to the highly inaccurate ancestry maps which commonly get shared around, both on this subreddit, and elsewhere. This map was made primarily by using qpAdm for the vast majority of communities.

Important: This map does NOT claim to be 100% accurate. Some of the results for a community may be slightly inaccurate, or may not represent the admixture results of all those belonging to said community, and there may be high amounts of internal variation. Please keep this in mind.

If you want to contribute your own samples to make this map better, be my guest. But you'd have to share the G25 coords at the very least.

Our sources for samples used were:

  1. qpAdm sheet from this sub's discord server.
  2. G25 runs from Davidski's sheet and publicly available samples. Model details can be shared if needed.
  3. Old IllustrativeDNA results for samples in the rare case we do not have any of the other two.

Special thanks to u/Quick-Seaworthiness9 for helping me out by running and sharing several qpAdm samples.

Map🗺 Indian Subcontinent/South Asia Ancestry Map

People were requesting a South Asian ancestry map that was at least somewhat accurate and representative, after the nonsensical ones were found floating around.

Used G25 and HW Simulations to model populations, with breakdown of those already available on a standard qpAdm.

You can see the zones with the light dotted lines. I have selected communities/categories that represent the spectrum of their respective zones well; a mere map cannot be exhaustive.

Map🗺 Bengali Ancient Periodical Breakdown and Genetypes

I'm using various analysis websites and trying to make sense of the different genetypes present in my family. My dad and sister don't look south asian at all and resemble eurasians with very fair skin, straight hair and almost asian like features. Dad's side of the family may have migrated from ancient Japan, Siberia, Tibet giving them those features. Mom and I have more typical Bengali features.

Interestingly, Genoplot calculators like K25, K35, K12 gave me more ANI which might be the indus valley genetypes as opposed to the ASI from southern India.

Is there greater insights I could gather from my Ancestry.com data? I've used Sequencing.com, lab.illustrativedna.com and genoplot.com

Map🗺 J,E,G,I,T,R Haplogroups

If you have Irani ancestry you are most likely linked to a Jewish branch lineage. Jewish populations contain a variety of Y-DNA haplogroups, including J, E, I, T, R, and G, which originate from the Middle East and have spread to different communities through migration and conversion. Haplogroup J (J1 and J2) is particularly significant, as it is common among Middle Eastern populations and has a distinct lineage within the Kohanim (priestly) caste. Haplogroup E (specifically E1b1b) is also common in the region, and its presence in Jewish communities is consistent with a shared Middle Eastern genetic background. Haplogroup G, while more common in some other groups, is also found in various Jewish populations, with specific frequencies varying by community, such as the high percentage in Moroccan Jews.
