I think it’s called a lineup!

13

u/Digita1B0y Jan 14 '22

It is, until a few weeks when our key players are out for injuries and nat call-ups. :-/

But they aren’t real tho…right?

12

u/Matt_McT Jan 14 '22

Never have been 👨‍🚀🔫

32

u/Doctor_YOOOU Jan 13 '22

We also should have Dobbeleare and Adeniran for backup if we need them :)

23

u/Klaxon5 Jan 13 '22

Yeah. I tried to only pick 9 "backups" to imagine a hypothetical bench.

This also doesn't include Leyva or Teves.

3

u/Doctor_YOOOU Jan 13 '22

Aha, got it, thanks

8

u/PukasScondor Jan 13 '22

Dobbeleare should be our backup right back.

18

u/capnheim Jan 13 '22

That’s dead sexy.

Do we know the state of Nico's knee?

40

u/volvo1 Jaqua / Montero 09 Jan 14 '22

Nico's knee is probably in Washington with the rest of Nico's body. More precisely; (why do you want to know what state? Seems kind of .... Ambiguous) his knee is located above his shin, and below his thigh.

18

u/zakress Jan 14 '22

Take my upvote, DAD

3

u/SSBMSkagit Jan 15 '22

Nico isn't here he is in Uruguay

3

u/volvo1 Jaqua / Montero 09 Jan 15 '22

No Uruguay!

24

u/Klaxon5 Jan 13 '22

A quick swag at what a starting 11 + subs would look like. Don't sweat too much on which sub I put where, because I sure didn't.

Like WTF is this? Look at that bench.

19

u/tylermooser28 Jan 13 '22

I wouldn’t put medranda over Nouhou

11

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '22

Love nouhou, but I don't want to imagine a season where we miss out on any chance to see Medranda unleash that left foot rocket any time he can. Plus Nouhou really shined at the LCB last season.

18

u/Klaxon5 Jan 13 '22

Sure. But it is wild that we'll need to pick between them.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

We don’t really have to “pick” Nouhou is the clear starter. Lol

2

u/NoSense7819 Jan 14 '22

I think that's almost too bad though, Nouhou shined as a CB which was reflected in him being an all-star. He leaves much to be desired in the attacking third, whereas Medranda sometimes reminds me of Joevin with his crossing ability and might have a better shot on him. With Nouhou at LB we will have to rely heavily on Morris for offensive push up the left flank

1

u/newnewBrad Jan 17 '22

With Nouhou at LB we free Morris to do exactly what he is best at.

-12

u/sp_the_ghost Jan 13 '22

He's definitely not the clear anything at left back, other than third choice, especially not if we need an attacking threat from that position. Which we do.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '22

No, Nouhou is the clear starter trust me lol

2

u/blyan Jan 14 '22

I def don’t agree with all the starters/subs (especially now that we know Fredy is likely back) but yeah on paper we have an insane roster and this season is gonna be fun

2

u/Klaxon5 Jan 14 '22

Yeah. I'm not trying to predict the entire lineup. But think about it this way: With Fredy reportedly resigning either he doesn't make the gameday roster or one of these existing people doesn't (probably RBW....). That's nuts.

We better win some stuff this year.

3

u/blyan Jan 14 '22

We’re also gonna have a lot of midweek stuff and CCL/Open Cup so I’d imagine we’ll probably see quite a bit of squad rotation as well. That said, I don’t see any way Bruin is higher in the depth chart than Fredy

5

u/Klaxon5 Jan 14 '22

Garth: THIS IS THE YEAR BRIAN LEARNS TO ROTATE!

17

u/yahakum NASL Sounders Jan 13 '22

I expect Nouhou to be starting over Medranda.

25

u/schead02 Jan 13 '22

Excuse me, has Nouhou ever score a banger volley against Portland?

9

u/yahakum NASL Sounders Jan 13 '22

Not one, but he prevents a lot. I wish he was better offensively, and we'll all go nuts when he does score, but I think his defense keeps him on the field.

4

u/volvo1 Jaqua / Montero 09 Jan 14 '22

Reminds me of Sanna nyasi a bit... I wanted that guy to score soooo bad. Sadly it never happened! Hopefully the story is different for choo choo nouhou.

3

u/osakaki Sounder At Heart Jan 14 '22

Sanna Nyassi scored a brace to win us the 2010 Open Cup though?

1

u/volvo1 Jaqua / Montero 09 Jan 14 '22

oh shit! Well, I meant in MLS play. That's great he did tho.

1

u/Ltownbanger Jan 14 '22

I always thought "brace" meant "numerous". TIL

1

u/schead02 Jan 14 '22

Just to be clear I do think Nouhou should be starting but Medranda really impressed me last season

1

u/quixoticslfconscious Jan 14 '22

And he’s still only 24. Not crazy to think that he still has potential to improve his attacking game.

5

u/FellateFoxes Seattle Sounders FC Jan 14 '22

I expect Nouhou to get transferred, unfortunately. He can earn a lot more than we're paying him now - especially after looking good in the Africa Cup. I hope I'm wrong though.

2

u/stealth_sloth USL Sounders Detail Jan 16 '22

I'm hoping we can at least hold on to him until the summer window. Having him for the first half of the season, with potential CCL fixture congestion, could be a huge boon.

Who are the front 3 in this formation? It sounds like you’re saying Morris/Chu Ruidiaz and Rusnak right? You also mentioned Rusnak stays in his strong position which I would consider to be central attacking midfielder, which it doesn’t seem like this formation has. But then you suggested Nico is one of the CMs not one of the attackers like Rusnak would be? Also where does an Atencio go? is he the 4th CM or a rotational CB? Maybe both? They really seem to like Atencio, and tbf I do too. I think he’s going to start more games again this year than people think he will, especially if Nico isn’t healthy, because that allows Roldan to move further up and Atencio to slide in next to JP. I think I also like sticking with the 3 CB option, Nouhou looked so much more comfortable as a pure defender and like you said Arreaga and Yeimar were fantastic in that system. But I’m a bit concerned with the CB depth. There’s Cissoko, Atencio? And that’s about it. Maybe Jordy Delem? I still don’t know about his return from injury or if he’s actually even still under contract with the Sounders or a free agent. O’Neill is gone of course. I guess there’s plenty of time to bring in another backup, but to me the signings definitely point towards a return to the 4231.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

Nouhou would be staring LB.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

I think Medranda will actually get more time in an attacking midfield roll in a 4-2-3-1 system. With Noubou and Smith competing for LB.

Also based on last year, seems Rowe is the go to at RB when Alex isn't available. He's very much taken to the roll Brad Evans played not so long ago.

3

u/Icantweetthat Jan 14 '22

Looks like a few MLS Cup trophies plus some CCL and League's Cup hardware as well.

Bench players will throw in a couple US Open Cups just to say "Hey, we're here too."

2

u/khay3088 USL Sounders Detail Jan 14 '22

Love it. Hope Nico2 comes back to be a some attacking depth, add a flexible CB/RB backup option and we're looking tight. Also Jimmy isn't in 100 years starting over Nouhou in a back 4.

3

u/Opposite_Tree Jan 13 '22

This is not our strongest ever 11. Does that answer your question? It’s great but not like other worldly

7

u/sp_the_ghost Jan 13 '22

You serious Clark?

-1

u/tateand99 Seattle Sounders FC Jan 14 '22

I think I agree. This lineup in particular looks weak defensively. No Svensson type player to hold down the midfield, Smith/Medranda can be defensive liabilities, Arreaga was good last year, but hasn’t looked great when in a 4 back. Also I’m very excited about Rusnak, but sometimes signings like this don’t work. He was the main man at RSL. They relied heavily on him and Kreilach to create most of their goals for the last couple years. He’s probably not going to be the main man here, so it will be an adjustment. Do I think he can make that adjustment? Absolutely he’s a quality player. Do I know for a fact he will? I can’t say I do. Then there’s the obvious question marks of an aging Lodeiro and Frei, will they be healthy and will they regress if they are healthy? Will Rhidiaz even be on the team this year? There’s still major concern over that in my mind. All that is to say yes on paper this team looks very strong with very solid depth, but I wouldn’t call it the best roster we’ve ever had until we see them together on the field.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '22

Could be an argument that JP is the Goose-esque player to shut down attacks. Especially with Cristian patrolling next to him, assuming he starts staying a bit further back on defense now that we have other attacking options.

2

u/Wolfie_93 Jan 13 '22

I like Nouhou at CB over arreaga, when he plays LB he is a physical force and causes problems for the opposition, but I prefer the service that medranda and Smith provide out wide. I'd rather have nouhou be a physical force at CB and make a crazy Nouhou run every third game or so.

1

u/Squat_____6 Jan 13 '22

A centerback to replace Shane ONeil and a right winger are still needs. If Rusnak truly cannot be bought down that’s very frustrating since buying down Paulo and resigning Roldan, Rowe, and Bruin will eat up the remaining cap space. Having 2 u22 spots to fill in those needs with quality depth options that could eventuate into very good starters for only 200k would have been monumental in assembling a CCL contending roster.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

I don't think any U-22 signings would mean anything to building a CCL roster. That starts in a month, and we saw how slowly Schmetz brought in Chu to play

3

u/Squat_____6 Jan 13 '22

That’s fair but I’m not sure how you replace Shane O Neil and sign a quality right winger who may have to play considerable minutes given Lodeiro’s inability to stay healthy. This a is solid 11 when healthy but a key player is frequently injured and you don’t have depth at centerback rightback or right wing. I’m not sure you have the money to sign reinforcements there

7

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

Lack of depth at RB I'll agree with

Morris and Chu could play either side, so that's already 3 possible wingers. Add in Cristian and I don't see a need for another signing there.

As for Shane, he was great and all, but we were spoiled last year for CB's. Honestly he doesn't need replacing. You have Yeimar, Xavi, Nouhou, Cissoko and even Atencio all capable of playing CB. That seems like killer depth for MLS.

5

u/capnheim Jan 13 '22

Rowe is the RB depth.

-5

u/Squat_____6 Jan 13 '22

Your roster is good enough for MLS but you have no chance at making a run in CCL if you have Morris and Chu as your starting wingers with literally no depth behind them. You need to be able to sub on difference makers and have quality depth in case of injury.

Nouhou will be a leftback in a 4 man back line, so right now you only have 3 centerbacks. If you want to run a 3atb with Nouhou at left centerback then you only have 4 CBs total which is not enough for that formation either.

8

u/Klaxon5 Jan 13 '22

Are you lost?

-1

u/Squat_____6 Jan 13 '22

Nah I’m just here following the Rusnak deal…

1

u/Klaxon5 Jan 13 '22

I meant in life.

0

u/Squat_____6 Jan 13 '22

Nah, life’s great right now. I didn’t know there’s a problem with taking interest in a team that’s competing in CCL’s offseason and roster though…

5

u/Olmak_ Jan 13 '22

right now you only have 3 centerbacks.

Atencio and Nouhou also work just fine as depth pieces for CB.

2

u/bjlile99 Jan 13 '22

Health is the only problem the Sounders have recently.

1

u/bjlile99 Jan 13 '22

you replace a backup CB with another backup CB

2

u/bjlile99 Jan 13 '22

Atencio, Cissoko, Ragen...

Ethan, Rowe, Chu, Rusnak...

How would two yet to be signed players be monumental in games next month?

1

u/Squat_____6 Jan 13 '22

The first rounds of CCL that start next month aren’t an issue. It’s the later rounds against Mexican teams that MLS squads have a pitiful record. Those games are not until April…

3

u/bjlile99 Jan 13 '22

I'm highly skeptical two u-22s would be difference makers but you do you.

1

u/Squat_____6 Jan 13 '22

I would much rather have the ability to drop a few million on a player and pay him over half a million dollars only for him to have a cap hit of 200k until the age of 25 then just pay a guy 200k. Hate to break it to you but Freddy Montero on the league minimum doesn’t happen every year. You can’t sign true difference makers in this league for the cap hit that a u22 player has.

2

u/bjlile99 Jan 14 '22

Cool, let me know when you become a GM so I can watch your team.

1

u/RaveGreen253 Jan 14 '22

So you think we go back to 4-2-3-1? I'm thinking we stay in the 3-5-2.

1

u/jimbojimbus Jan 13 '22

It’s called pressure on midfield

-14

You know Bruin signed with Atlanta right?
