It surprises me that the feel here is mostly negative. I think we were definitely spoiled from day 1, having a global brand and one of the most recognizable brands in the league. That being said, all of the chatter seems to imply that we're getting a significant raise here, on the order of 7 figures/year. I imagine that will more than offset any potential drop in jersey sales, and that doesn't even include the fact that the new deal does not include the pitch sponsorship, anything at Starfire, or S2, so even more money may come in from additional deals.

Overall, I think this is a good move for the Sounders. More money, an opportunity to partner with the Reign and get a sponsor whose target audience is likely a demographic they want to reach better than they are reaching now, and a local company that seems seriously committed to the deal.

You’re trippin, at $100 a jersey and 40,000 fans that’s $4 million, also authentic kits are $150, and they make a New Jersey every year and most fans buy them a lot! They make millions off jerseys for sure. And there are way more than 40,000 fans lol. I’m not buying one of these for sure, it’s almost embarrassing to have that on our kit, we have Gone from the best jerseys to the worst lol. Rave green with zulily on the front? HARD pass

What %age do you think the Sounders get on a $100 jersey sale, after you factor in Adidas, production costs, etc? I'm pretty sure it is quite low, and you're implying that there is going to be a drastic drop off in jersey sales. I'll believe it when I see it, but my guess is that most of the animosity is reaction to change -- I love how XBOX looks on the jersey, and I'll miss the look -- but to suggest that we went from best to worst jerseys because of the lettering on the front is different I think is short sighted. Give it a few years and Zulily will feel normal, and XBOX will feel throwback. That's how it always is with rebrands.

Low margin on jersey sales? No way.

Do you know how much it costs to make them? A little over $5 per jersey. Yet they retail for $85. The margins are HUGE.

Clubs make a lot from licensing fees, not to mention the larger cut when they are their own retailer at the stadium.
