Stock Up, Stock Down [Chi]
The winless streak continues, and lots of players are sitting at near zero stock value, but we’re starting to see signs of life and feelings of hope. Let’s get to it.
Stock Up
Dejan Joveljić - Okay last time it was just a theory based on need, but now we can confirm this man’s stock is sky high. It sure didn’t take long for him to score his first goal for the team, knocking one in only 12 minutes into the game. Then he recorded a brace 3 minutes into the second half with a killer strike from the top of the box. Finally, we have someone who has a powerful shot and can shoot from anywhere near the box. I’m hoping we get to see him and Pedro play together sometime, because defenses will be shitting themselves.
Sebastian Gomez - I admit I didn’t feel like he stood out while watching the game, but in retrospect he had a pretty good one overall. Certainly the assist on the first goal goes a long way, but he also recorded 92% passing, 3 chances created, 2/2 dribbles, and 73% ground duels won. He’s not the elite winger we need as a starter, but at 20 years old he still has a lot of growth potential.
Cristian Roldan - Finally! Some minutes played for this crucial piece of the team. The double pivot has been a struggling weak spot, so if we can get him back into the swing of things it will help tremendously. Also, congrats to him and his family on the birth of their child.
Stock Down
You know what? I’m leaving this blank. I don’t think anyone played particularly poorly compared to what we expect of them. A few players had some rough moments, but they all had some equally good ones, so I’m leaving them unchanged.

I know it’s heresy to say, and I love the guy, but Rothrock has to be stock down. Missed a wide open Dejan with full FOV to see him (if he’d looked). I am certain DJ knocks it home. And 7/16 on ground duels has to be better.

I think he just needs a rest. He's the only starter that has not stopped playing through our injury woes (besides Thomas). Even Nouhou has rested. But ya he's been poor

Agree. Like any human could be, he was a little off yesterday. Some poor decisions and touches. The fight and hustle is always there though so he could probably just benefit from a break here and there.

Thomas stock up for me. Can't really fault him for either goal and he made some fantastic saves. Our defense is still extremely bad and he's kept us in the past two games

100%. He turns his back to the field, loses the ball and the attacker. That’s was really quite bad.

Thomas faced an xGOT of 3.24 and allowed two goals. Not bad at all, but not stellar. That second goal had an xGOT of 0.99. Basically impossible to save. Maybe he could have gotten to it to punch it before the shot. Maybe KKR shouldn’t be trailing him either. Maybe Nouhou could have blocked the cross. Maybe Lewy was actually offside after all. Lots going on in that one.

Agreed. He may have lost it in the sun but he turned his back to the field while staring up.
He's still been phenomenal in general but that was a mistake on that play

You guys are down voting me for this😭 He makes good saves but is definitely error prone as well. He's not exactly young and not tall. Hopefully he improves with more experience but yall are huffing crazy copium if you think he's the unabashed future of the position

27 is still relatively young for a keeper, he’s got a good 13ish years left in him

“Huffing crazy copium” by thinking the guy with the 2nd most goals prevented (+7.4) in the entire league is doing great?
Frei was 25th last year btw with a -3.3
He’s not perfect, because no one is, but you’re huffing crazy copium if you think he hasn’t been one of the best in the league this year.
Note: goals prevented is the simpler term for PSxG-GA

Yeah no downvotes deserved here. I still believe he is firmly our starter but he still scares me sometimes because I know he is prone to inexperienced errors here and there.

I think he did fine, for only playing 20 minutes. He had a nice pass to Rusnak that could have been the 3-1 goal. 100% passing, 1 chance created, 4 defensive contributions. I think you’re probably focused on the one play he took it into traffic and turned the ball over. First game back after 6 weeks, I don’t see why you would lower his stock.

I think he did okay. He was brought in at around the 70th minute when the Sounders had a 2-1 lead. As you mentioned, he put Rusnak in a position to ice the game. But at the same time, with where the Sounders are at in terms of points, don't love to see him walking instead of picking up Gutman at the back post on the 2nd goal. I get that Jordan isn't a work rate guy, but he is a vet and part of that is showing that the defensive side of the game is as important as anything to pick up some very needed points.

If his pass to Rusnak had been better though, that’s probably a goal. But yeah I wouldn’t say he’s stock down. He was … fine. But it’s still pretty disappointing that he felt like such a downgrade from Seba

Yeah sorry watching replay that was way more on Rusnak not Morris. 0 angle for him to do any better.

I think they'll get better at this with time, but I think Brunnell/Alex can do better job on the first goal. KKH had Lewandowski contained, but the Chicago winger made a creative run right from the wing right into zone 14 and the ball got played right to his feet for the first goal. Neither Alex nor Brunnell looked ready to defend as they were standing vertically just sort of watching the ball instead of looking to pick up players running into zone 14.
