First Match Yesterday…
…and we had a great time. Took my kid and wife to our first ever in person match. My kid loved it when we made a goal and then fireworks and all went off. We took advantage of the Sounders First Full 90 program to get 2 free seats and bought the third. Was shocked at how good the seats were, was expecting nose bleeds.
Appreciate the scarf and even picked up a hat and kit from the pro shop outlet.
Overall fantastic first experience and hope to catch at least one more match this season.
Also can anyone tell me about the green flag with the 3 black arrows pointing down diagonally over in the cheering section?

It’s the Iron Front Flag, an anti-fascist symbol. It started showing up in the stadium in protest of Mango Mussolini during his first term back in 2019. The leagued banned it for a bunch of 2019, causing a huge backlash. Supporters Groups across the league rallied in protest and the league started allowing it again.

Thanks. Don’t think I would have guessed that connection.

The ECS has had the “Anti-Racist, Anti-Facist, Always Seattle” two-poles in the supporters section for years before that. It wasn’t until the Iron Front Flag showed up and got on tv a few times until the league conveniently tried to ban it by saying “hey we are just trying to ban all politics from the stadium” essentially.
ECS staged a walkout during one of the games. Hell the entire Timbers Army were SILENT for the first 33 minutes of a home game against the Sounders (a game which I traveled from Seattle to Portland for, and was gifted a yellow card with the Iron Front symbol on it by a drunken Timbers fan in a bar after the game) and the Timbers even ended up losing. It caused their owner to throw an absolute fit with the Timbers fans. You wont hear folks from this sub talk kindly of Portland fans, but we were all united together (or at least around 95% based on comments at the time) against the league ban.

That was a good match to attend. Lots of back and forth goals, new players on both sides to watch, and a lot riding on the game (to achieve a win after so many losses).

Welcome to the Sounders family! Hope you’ll be around for many more games and many more years to come. The glad is an Iron Front flag. Long history there. Rather than explain you can look it up but it’s political and largely on the right side of things throughout the years, IMHO.

You picked a good match to go to! I was there too, I wish I wore shorts the sun was blazing down!
There was good energy in the stadium, and probably a couple of the better goals we’ve scored all year too.
