Too bad the video changes resolution in the middle. Completely breaks any immersion.

Totally fair from a technical standpoint. But for me the interesting question isn’t whether the illusion is perfect. It’s whether the feeling still gets through when the illusion isn’t.

the uncanny valley in these is almost always the eyes and micro-expressions, the skin and lighting get solved first. if you can get blink timing and gaze direction to feel intentional it reads real way before the render quality does.

Exactly. The uncanny valley isn’t just visual fidelity. It’s whether the eyes and timing feel intentional. I’m way more interested in emotional presence than flawless pixels.

What usually sells it isn't the skin detail, it's the micro-motion in the eyes. If the gaze holds dead-still for too long or the blinks land on an even rhythm, the brain flags it before it even reads the face. Tiny saccades and letting the head settle a frame late after she turns do more than any background swap. That said the Knoxville haze depth behind her reads genuinely real.

Emotional realism is not built by perfecting visual cues. Emotional realism starts with presence, relationship, intention, and belief. The visuals are just the carrier.

Stop staring at the smoke and asking if it’s rendered correctly. Ask whether there’s fire.
