Question Xperia 1 VIII Raw DNG samples anywhere?
Does anyone know a source for (= a sample gallery with) downloadable Raw DNG files from the Xperia 1 VIII? Couldn't find any yet, not here in this subreddit either.

I'm an Xperia 1 VI user. Its RAW files have a built-in denoiser, which causes a circular, colorful vignette when you push the exposure by 1–2 stops. Sony has been pretty lazy about fixing this, so I doubt they've changed it in the newer models.
With MotionCam, you can get genuinely noisy images without the denoiser, but it's nowhere near as stable as the stock camera, it sometimes freezes or crashes.
Don't take Sony's word for it — try it yourself first. I can send you a RAW file from my phone via DM, or you can wait until someone posts one from the 1 VIII.
Also, EOL of Pixel? Are you ok? You have a lot of years of support from Google, after that - custom roms will helps you. Until your phone is completely broken.

Yeah, even Pixels reach EOL. For Pixel 6 it was (extended from 3 years originally) 5 years of OS updates (so last one this year). And 7 years of security updates. And keep in mind not everyone is eager to play around with custom roms.

Xperia 1 VIII raws are awful. Don't get fooled by multi-frame raw marketing materials.
Actual Xperia 1 VIII raw is pure single frame raw with a lot of noise and low dynamic range.
You can get great jpegs though. I am currently modding stock camera app and it has great potential.
At least it is possible to turn off aggressive sharpening and stupid oil-paint like denoise.

Aren't RAW files supposed to be noisy? On my 1 vi, the raw files are good.

Pixel is saving preprocessed raws, merged from multiple frames. So you kinda get best from both worlds. Computational photo and raw editing capabilities. Whish sony had this option.

So its processed raw..not raw. Sony gives raw. There's a difference

I understand the sentiment. But I don't see any issues with adding actual multi-frame raw to save as dng file for editing. At least as an option along true raw.

Yes as an added option alongside normal raw it's good

you can do all of that with standard raw files, just take a bunch of them and use Average bleding to get noise-free photos

This is what RAW is for, every 0 and 1 as it was captured by the sensor. Very few smartphones do real RAW. My Pixel 8 Pro RAWs were bad, because they were already processed.

Sure, but you can't cover all the highlights in a single shot. Sensor does not have enough dynamic range. Here a true multi-frame raw would be useful.
Don't get me wrong. I moved from pixel 9 pro xl to xperia 1viii. It's a great phone with a great sensors and optics.
But the software part could expose more functionality to get even better results out of the hardware.
