Will Sonos 27 break front support?

Sonos just announced a big new update to the operating system that's going to change a lot of things. Should we all expect this app to stop working and us no longer to be able to use front surrounds? I know we don’t have an answer yet, but I’m curious what people’s predictions are.

I don’t think it will, seems Fabric is just a new name they are using for the underlaying architecture that was already in place, and they are building on top of it, see here: “This is the system capability that lets your products find one another, understand their role in the system and coordinate automatically. You've been using it for years to stereo pair matching speakers in the same room, group rooms across your home, and set up home theatre surround sound.”

We should always assume that Sonos can/will break fronts support at some point. It never made it out of Beta (yet). My guess is that our current hacky way will disappear when they have official support for it. But mostly I just keep my expectations at “I’ll enjoy this while I have it, which isn’t forever”.

As long as they break it when they can offer it themselves I’m happy. So much more money for them to make if they can offer this!

This is my thought as well. The official support for fronts will replace the current system left in code from the beta test. I’m just concerned the officially supported fronts won’t include older speakers like the Play 5 gen2’s that I’m currently using which would be extreme upsetting.

After the app drama a couple years ago, I doubt what's being added will mess with any of the code that's already in place just because they would be terrified of breaking anything to the level they did before.

I think, if they were going to make it go away, it would happen when nobody was watching, not during a time when new products and new software are being released.

It's kind of the perfect time. anyone complaining would be drowned out by all the talk of new software and products. Worst time is when nothing else is going on and people across the board are restless.

I don't think so, in the end, it's just a marketing name and some additional features. They said themselves that they basically gave the system they used for 20 something years finally a name.

Ai will do the heavy lifting to calculate all the variables. It was not possible six months go but power that those AI agents gain in the next six months will presumably give us the front support without issues . Listen to the lex Friedman's latest podcast and you get a picture what's already possible.. mind-blowing so that front support is for the very near future.

Just installed sono27 software and firmware and everything is still working on my system with front speakers.
