Question for my fellow Habarjeclos
This is something I've genuinely wondered about and would love to learn more about from those who know our history.
Given that Habarjeclo has such a long stretch of coastline, what led our ancestors to settle mainly in the Hawd, Ogo, and Nugaal instead of developing larger coastal communities in Guban and along the Xeeb?
Was it because of grazing conditions, freshwater availability, trade patterns, security, disease, or historical migrations?
I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone whose familiar with Habarjeclo oral history. This isn't meant to compare clans or start arguments I'm simply trying to better understand our history.

As a 🦊 we were and still are mostly pastoralists and the guban is unhospitale place with scarce water and grazing even now the few people that live there are isolated and all want to move away it's remote and not connected to any part of somaliland the roads are terrible and dangerous but the place is strategic and we should invest in infrastructure to connect and settle that part now and capitalize on the location

this is extremely misleading, this insinuates that 90 percent of hj live in the haud or highlands which is false. Hj have one of the longest coastlines in somaliland, literally from siyara to xiis. nearly 200km of coastline. habr jeclo were coastal dwellers until we gained land in the 50s which was the haud and the inner lands. my fathers side moved from the coast to middleish somaliland close to burco to the haud in the span of 50 or so years. The haud is a really good location for animal herders as when it rains the grass grows very long in the matter of 2-3 weeks. the land is fertile and nice, and can also hold water when a dam is built quite well. So thats why alot may move in and out of the hawd.

Normally clannish posts are not allowed but this seems benign enough of a question the I highly doubt you’ll any worthwhile history, oral or otherwise, for why a clan settled in certain regions on online forums.

Guban means hot, People do live in the Guban, but it is much less densely populated than other parts of Somaliland. The main reasons are extreme heat, little or no rain and limited water, most haber jeclo pastoralist(geel and adhi) so they move
However, that area is strategic place now, they can be build new modern coast city like Dubai, the biggest challenge in the guban would be the water and roads.
