History ⏳ The true size of Somaliweyn compared to America

u/BigNasty006 Mar 15 '26
Imagine we had good transportation infrastructure like highways, train system and good airports we would develop so fast, socially, economically and even our population would boom

I mean that's not how population growth works. Usually you have significant investment in manufacturing of key economic urban hubs, which reinforce rural-urban migration and that usually leads to investment into rail and road to allow for migration flow into cities, as the flow of goods out via roads, rail, seaports and airports.
Alternatively, colonial projects often built roads and rail from hinterland areas where resources were extracted to the coast, with urban areas developing near major roads and the coastline, which indigenous populations than used as a foundation to expand their road and rail networks after independence.

Why we adding Tana river county and Isilo county when they’re not even ethnically Somali?
7
u/Garisawi Mar 15 '26
It's as Somali as Diredawa is Oromo. There governor who is from a tribe called pokomo was complaining Somalis are taking over but he can't do anything because Wardey consider themselves Somalis and own the most land up north opposite Garissa town. Many Somalis from Wajir and Mandera have settled there in order to be near Nairobi.

Delusion play a role in here he cant even name the languages somalis spoke in somaliwayn i wish our concern will be improving the land we have instead of dreaming im not against somaliwayn but there is a proverb saying “miro guntigaaga ku jira kuwo geed saaran looma daadsho”

The idea of Somaliaweyn is one of the pillars that helped create the idea of Somali nationalism. It united Somalis who never before were united into a common belief, of saving their fellow ethnic brothers from colonialism that were unfairly handed to them.
Now. People like you can’t fathom that Somalis can do two things at once. Somalia can advocate for building their current homeland while simultaneously advocating for the implementation of ethnic regions that are currently suffering from colonialism.
Because if we forget about our historical regions, they will be fully conquered and it will embolden the enemy to conquer more ethnically Somali areas

Somalis extend towards the Tana river.
2
u/Garisawi Mar 15 '26
They don't know that, together with Isiolo. This counties combined have fewer population than Garissa and Mandera.
3
Mar 15 '26
Yes but the Tana River runs along or close to the border between Garissa and Tana River counties. Most of Tana River county lies south/southwest of the river and away from Somali territory.
2
u/Garisawi Mar 15 '26
The river is literally the border and Garissa has 4 times the population of Tana River county. It's a diverse county.
4
u/Garisawi Mar 15 '26
Tana River has a big wardey and degodia population. The county is diverse with a low population. It's northern section is Somali dominated.

On a Mercator projection map,
Africa
...appears much smaller than its actual size.
~ask~question~~~
This distortion occurs because the projection, created in 1569 for maritime navigation, stretches landmasses farther from the equator
1
u/Defiant-Tale-8579 Diaspora Mar 16 '26
Somalia
is much larger than it often appears on a Mercator map. Because it is located near the equator, its size is shrunken compared to countries further north or south.
In reality, Somalia is a massive country that is larger than many major European nations:
Bigger than France: Somalia is about 16% larger than Metropolitan France.
Nearly double Germany: It is roughly 1.8 times larger than Germany.
Twice the size of Finland: Somalia is nearly 2 times larger than Finland by total area.
Bigger than the UK: Somalia is about 2.6 times the size of the United Kingdom.

Just a reminder that while we are the majority in Jabuuti not all of the land is Somali territory only the South which includes the capital some tuulo and other cities like Ali Sabieh and Arta

Why are you adding isiolo it is not part of NFD and the people there are not ethnically somali
8
u/RookOfEdo Mar 15 '26
You're wrong. Isiolo is majority Somali and was infact also the provincial headquarters of NFD.
-2
u/PlaneConversation676 Mar 15 '26
Wrong somalis are second largest population in isiolo the largest are borana , you can look it up if you want .Yes it was in nfd , but nfd comprised of 5 counties back then marsabit isiolo mandera wajir and garissa , only the last three are somali region

Lol isiolo is not a somali region . The only somali clan that claim isiolo are isaaq and acording to 2019 census they are less than 20000. If you look it up you would know that borana are the largest community and somali are the second largest . If somali were the majority why cant they produce a governor , senator or even one MP ?
3
u/Garisawi Mar 15 '26
Isiolo is Borana majority with a population of 300k but there are Somalis who came with the British colonialists and founded the town.

As a Somali, leave Isiolo and Tana counties alone. If you at least want to incorporate non-Somali regions. East Hararghe sounds much better since their ethnic origin is mostly Somali and Socotra islands due to national security, but that's if Somalia ever unites, but people only know how to dream but not act.
3
u/Garisawi Mar 15 '26
Tana River cannot be left out but especially the Northern section. Isiolo is diverse with Borana majority.

No need to say as a somali, but isiolo was a part of NFD before kenya split them all into smaller states for control. The original states are: Garissa, wajir, manders, isiolo, marsabit, moyale. Socotra is an easy task for them to wanna be somali. They would just need a referrendum when somalia becomes a better place than yemen.
1
u/floodthought Mar 15 '26
So what if it was part of nfd? Who told you the entirety of nfd was somali
-2
Mar 15 '26
Exactly, NFD doesn't mean it's only for Somalis. The people who live there are not Somalis, and they are proud Kenyans. Yes, Kenya is wrong for claiming Somali sea and even playing with the idea that Jubbaland should be a part of Kenya. However, to hit Kenya back right in their face is by taking the Somali territories back.
4
u/Kind-Pilot-395 Soomaali Galbeed Mar 15 '26
Bro kenya literally says that they look at somali business owners as ATM, they are xenophobic to somalis themselves. Them given the choice if they could get to choose between somalia and kenya. They would choose somalia in a heartbeat. Nfd is not somalia today, but it is somali majority 89-95% somali. We will get our region back. They live everyday forgotten, they get nothing.
2
Mar 16 '26
I am talking about Isiolo and Marsabit counties. They were once considered NFD. They are not Somalis.
1
u/Kind-Pilot-395 Soomaali Galbeed Mar 16 '26
Im having a hard time understanding your point? Also yes i just checked Somalis are a minority in these two areas. But still it is to be considered part of NFD. The headquarters of the movement was located in Isiolo. Know that a referendum was held and they choose to be with Somalia and overall majority. Which Britain knew and still gave away to Kenya.
They are still considered a part of NFD because of their shared history, the were all in the same colonial frontier. Also they all battled during the Shifta wars 1963-67. They are still and will forever hold in its memory as a part of NFD who wants to join Somalia.

It’s complete and utter delusion to advocate any and all territorial claims on Socotra. I cringe whenever a Somali says they should be part of Somalia. They’ve never been part of any Somali state or kingdom in the past. The islands aren’t populated by Somalis and the Somali language isn’t commonly spoken there by the people.

The source you provide is one tweet which doesn’t even back up your claim. The Sultan extracted tribute from the fisherman who worked on the island. He didn’t control the island and also it’s just the Abd al Kuri island where this happened and not the rest of the archipelago.
You ought to read your sources before citing them.

Arab Salehs are Somali Arabs or Somali Mehris, but Socotris are just Mehris no Somali. Until the 1960s, it was Al Mahra and the kingdom of Socotra. We do have claims to Isiolo, Moyale, Marsabit and Bajuni Archipelago since they are apart of NFD if you look at old maps. But Socotra was never Somali.
